Glazer: Sad Sack Chiefs Hang onto Playoff Hopes & This Week’s Picks

imagesThe Chiefs still have a shot at the post season…

However as I mentioned last week they need to win out both of their last two games to get there. It’s possible they could lose one of the next two and still get in, but not likely.

If the Steelers beat KC and the Ravens win this weekend, that’s the end of the road for the Chiefs. They would both have 10 wins to our 8 and we’d be more than one back so a final win over the Chargers wouldn’t save the Chiefs season.

Kansas City must beat the Steelers on their home field Sunday and that’s something they haven’t done in nearly three decades. Unfortunately, my feeling is they won’t do it Sunday either.

Again, to pretend that having an average NFL quarterback and no receivers outside one back and an above average tight end will get you to the big game or anywhere close is pretty unrealistic.

The Chiefs front office has taken the middle road for sure. With Alex Smith and a team of just OK ability the Chiefs will be an average team for years to come. And no, they will never challenge for a Super Bowl. Their goal is to keep you interested all year and maybe, just maybe back into a wild card game or two.

It’s a business and Chiefs fans are the ATM machine.

That means YOU.

We put money in each year, season tickets, game tickets, parking, Chiefs clothing, swag, television watching, radio listening – even car decorations.

Which makes us the mark.

They make millions and we pay. Our reward is pride and joy over having a top notch product we can brag about around town or when we travel.

The problem: We don’t have that product now, do we?

That’s why I get so down on the Chiefs. In my opinion their efforts have been poor. Their drafts are terrible with the front office calls usually poor and the product so-so at best.

empty-stadiumGiving Alex Smith a long term deal sealed the Chiefs immediate future.

Half a century without a Super Bowl and none in sight for who knows how many years.

In the new Clark Hunt era I give them some credit.

Clark and crew have battled to get this product to be at least average. Since the Marty days the team has usually been poor. You simply must have an elite quarterback and we all see thats very tough to get. There are just a few that can get it done. Not since Lenny The Cool have we had one.

Wow, that was decades ago.

We got close with Rich Gannon but someone decided to stay with Elvis and that closed that door. The wait will continue for years, I’m afraid. It takes big balls to go out and find THAT GUY, the one. Our Chiefs leaders have taken the safe road. Just stay decent no risk, which means no reward.

No big college games for a couple weeks. I think both MU and K-State should win their bowl games.I’ll cover that as it gets here.

I think we can put a fork in the Chiefs because they’re pretty much done in view of their loss today in Steeltown. The primary difference between the two franchises is that the Steelers have generally found a way to win these key games down through the years whereas the Chiefs have not. The Steelers wouldn’t have gone out to Oakland on a Thursday night and on national TV lost to a team that hadn’t won a game all year.

glaze…at least 5 mistakes in this article…and for aguy who’s picks run
at about 40% (in real math according to the way you pick teams_….
in 2015 would you please not write about sports anymore.
Interviewing punch drunk fighers does not make you an expert in
sports….and if you look acorss the board on your comments you
know nothing about sports. You fail to realize that smith/jamal/bowe
had all been playing under injured/sick circumstances. Add that to the
injuries on the defense and you have a team that wentto Pittsburgh
under some underdog circumstances. ADd the bad calls made against
    kc and therer’s your game.
YOu;’ve been 100% wrong on the royal and chiefs acting like a child
changing your opinions on them as the wind changed direction.
You know nothing about baseball or football. Maybe listen to the
pre game shows on kcfx before you shoot off your big mouth!
and please hearne…no more glaze columns about football or baseball…
find someone who knows the game …not just shooting his mouth off.
If they go 9 and 7 you will look like an even bigger fool. in other
words….you’re just an amateur in the sports category…stick to strippers…
parties….woodside….subjects that can’t mske you look like a fool.
    thanks…
    happy holiday
