Glazer: Reveling in Mediocrity, Chiefs Win, Remain in Hunt

XU264592_2__2716957bYesterday’s Kansas City Chiefs looked looked like the team of November…

And they played very much like the team that was 7-3 before the fall to 7-6. Oakland looked helpless. All the Chiefs name players had good games. Alex Smith passed for just under 300 yards. We haven’t had a 300 yard passing game in two years. Still no wide out caught a TD pass, but the Chiefs dominated Oakland in every department.

De’Anthony Thomas had a nice return run for a TD. Travis Kelce led the Chiefs in receiving and caught a touchdown pass. Dwayne Bowe showed up and had a solid game. Tamba Hali and Justin Houston each had a sack.

So in short,  everyone got well.

Now the Chiefs have two real tests ahead of them.

A road game with a good Steeler team coming up. It’s likely the Chiefs will need to win  their two remaining games – the Steelers there and Chargers here. If they want to get into the playoffs, that is.

So there is still a chance.

In fact a 9-7 record could get in if all the also-runs keep losing.

Even a loss to Steelers and win over the Chargers might back KC into the playoffs. And hey, we’d get Indy again. They have won all four of their playoff games against KC in the past.

kansas-city-chiefs-fansAre the Chiefs really worthy of post season?

With only one truly dominant team in the AFC, New England – with Denver and Indy close behind – who knows? It’s s strange year.

The Chiefs are surely an up and down squad.

I don’t like their chances, but anything can happen.

They could even back in at 9-7, much like the mediocre team Herm Edwards had a few years back – the one that Indy beat in round one.

Heck, Green Bay – everyone’s darling in the NFC – lost to the Bills yesterday. Now the Seahawks are looked at as top dog in the NFC.

The Chiefs don’t match up with the top teams but have beaten both New England and Seattle.

And those two teams are considered the two best as of today. Of course that seems to change weekly.

The bottom line: Well, they’ve kept our interest most of the season and that seems to be the organizations goal, so the Chiefs have already won.

Again this team needs some real help.

A good draft next year would help, something we just can’t do. With Alex Smith at quarterback I don’t see a Super Bowl in the Chiefs future just more seasons like this one. Borderline playoff team. Enjoy.

It’ll be interesting to see the Chiefs try and corral the three headed monster that is Roethlisberger, LaVeon Bell, and Antonio Brown. All having monster years. That being said, the Steeler defense can be had. They have trouble generating a pass rush, and Polamalu is a shell of his former self.

Steelers by two scores. Game is never in doubt.

I wonder what Greg Hall’s thoughts on this game is? I also wonder how those “Other” writing projects are coming?
