Calvin Sense: Check Out 2004 Movie ‘Crash’ While Awaiting Ferguson Verdict

x0zz5XjT9FkZqoktcb7zGdbx8la

Like everyone else, I’m waiting to hear the grand jury decision concerning the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri…

After the decision is announced I’ll post the real results of what the decision means.  Hopefully the decision will be reached today or soon after.

The movie Crash is the essence of what really happened that day in Ferguson.  By the essence of what happened I mean how the personalities and the lives of the police officer and Michael Brown intersected on that day.

imagesCrash was described at the AFI Awards as “a cinematic fantasia on the duality of man – exploring with astonishing candor how we are divided and tormented by race.  There is a sublime poetry to the film that emerges from the union of words and images, using the automobile as a metaphor for how we both distance and touch each other, sometimes violently. The film is distinguished by its extraordinary writing and an acting ensemble that fires on all pistons.”

Stay tuned…

  1. Kerouac says:

A powder keg waiting to be ignited, no matter which way jury blows… am reminded of a segment the public & their reaction the OJ Simpson matter years ago. The hunch is, that same segment will not laugh & party this time so much as riot & destroy.

Thin line between victory & defeat remains affinity if not kindred precisely, the bowels Ferguson, MO to edge a sea San Francisco, CA aft verdict arrives, gravity the former & sport the latter.

Rioters and revelers not so very different methodology, the evidence – reacting is the object, rai·son d’être but accessory. Long as Kerouac can remember, this is what such segments do best, win or lose.

  2. harley says:

it looks like they won’t indict the police officer. At least that’s what everyone
    is expecting.
I think everything weighs on how far away the kid was from the officer when
    he fired his gun.
AsI have written many times…a tsunami is coming to America. None of us
can stop it. Its the massive numbers of minorities that will make up this nation
    over the next 50 years.
Black and brown population will inundate white America. They will have the
ability,if they use it, to run America. Or they canruin it.
Regardless of what shoedog/southy or chuck say the country is changing.
And old white men will no longer be running the nation.
11 million more Hispanics get agateway to citizenship by the end of the year.
Birthrates for whites is at zero growth. Saw bill Clinton talk about this and the
problem with zero growth means the economy doesn’t grow…new jobs are
not created ….and we’re stuck in a hole.
Hopefully, whichever way it goes, there will not be violence. Minorities are on
track to take this nation over….with a peaceful transition , they are the
    new face of America.
Lets hope no matter what happens in ferguson that things remain peaceful.
    America is changing rapidly.

  3. the dude says:

Let’s be honest- Crash was crap, plain and simple and did not deserve an academy award.

  4. paulwilsonkc says:

Calvin, I’ve been in touch with Wesley Lowery (@WesleyLowery) from the Washington Post. If you recall, he was the reporter arrested last time at the McDonalds, for “loitering” after a couple earlier run ins with the Ferguson cops.

I’m planning on going over, meeting him in person and covering the almost certain meltdown up close and personal, after the decision comes down.

And you know what these clowns are going to do. You’ll hear the chant from here; “The ROOF, the ROOF, the ROOF is on FIRE! We don’t need no water let the Mother F*@%eR BURN,” regardless of the decision. They will burn their own neighborhoods down, either in celebration or protest of!

Let me know if you’d like to carpool! Admin can get you my digits….

As usual, nice write up. Don’t let the bottom feeders get you down; you’re on the right track and I like your stuff.

    • the dude says:

wilsun, a huge majority of the problem children were outside provocateurs and common criminals with probably a handful of undercover cops sprinkled here and there. A huge majority of the people there were peaceful protesters that have had it up to here with the BS. Let’s not lump the majority in with some bad apples.

      • paulwilsonkc says:

Dude, I dont know that Im totally guilty of that, but maybe close. I know there are visiting clowns to assist, but geebus, look at the “protests” any where on any issue, and they’re buring down their own hangouts!

  5. bob says:

Crash is one of the serious worst movies ever made.

  6. Jack Springer says:

I’ll pass . . . . Million Dollar Baby was a good film until the end when we all found out it was just a movie promoting suicide. The director has different morals than me.

    • the dude says:

I had no idea that movie was only about that when I watched it. Good to see you can label an entire movie based upon one event that happens at the end. Keep a closed mind there, bub.

      • Jack Springer says:

The whole movie was a led up to promoting suicide. You didn’t realize it when you were watching it.

I think I still have the right to my own opinion … bub.

  7. Mysterious J says:

    I don’t read anonymous posts.

  8. harley says:

    UPDATE: 5:29PM CST:

The autopsy performed for the Michael Brown family has apparently discovered
an additional bullet in the victims body. My sources tell me this is not
been released but further word is coming.

  9. harley says:

the “cub” reporter apparently has not done one ounce of research on this subject.
Yet mr. wesleys cohort in many stories wrote the following that shows some
interesting takes on the way this case was handled.
Had the “cub” reporter read this article (which I just received from the
people at DONT SHOOT COALITION ) they would have seen something
usualy. Notice the author is Kimberly kindy…who wrote many articles with
mr Wesley…..ahhhh…but as always at kcc facts mean nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    heres the article:

\”””The St. Louis County prosecutor’s office is taking an unusual approach with grand jury members who are weighing evidence against the police officer who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown last month, experts and county officials said.

Instead of telling grand jury members what charges they believe police officer Darren Wilson should face, they are leaving it open-ended for now and involving the grand jury as co-investigators.

The prosecutor’s office is also presenting evidence to the grand jury as soon as it receives it, rather than waiting until the St. Louis County Police Department and the FBI have completed their investigations. Police probes are typically completed before a case is presented to a grand jury, county officials said.

As a result, jurors in the Wilson case are hearing from every eyewitness, seeing every telling photo, viewing every relevant video, and reviewing all DNA, ballistics and other test results from county and FBI labs, said Ed Magee, a spokesman for county prosecutor Robert McCulloch. They will hear testimony from Dorian Johnson, the friend who was with Brown when he died, but it is unclear yet whether they will hear testimony from Wilson.

“Normally they hear from a detective or a main witness or two. That’s it,” Magee said. “This gives us an opportunity to present all of the evidence to jurors who represent St. Louis County. They will make the decision.”

Attorney General Eric Holder announced the launch of a civil rights investigation into the Ferguson Police Department and as well as a collaborative reform effort with the St.Louis Police Department on Thursday. Holder also said the investigation in the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown is open and active, but “will take time” to complete. (AP)

Susan W. McGraugh, a criminal-defense lawyer and a professor at the Saint Louis University School of Law, said that the approach is allowed under the law and that prosecutors sometimes use it in high-profile cases.

“The prosecutor may want cover, which they can get by sharing the responsibility with the grand jury,” McGraugh said. “So when the public reacts to what does or does not happen, they can go back to the fact that the grand jury played a large role in the decision. They can say, ‘We let these jurors, who are your peers, hear what witnesses had to say. This was their decision.’ ”

again…a differnet take….for further details onthis article and other
    items associatedwith it contact law4life1000@yahoo.com….because
theres lot of smoke and mirrors…and you know…where theres
    smoke…THERE’S FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. harley says:

The attorneys who followed this case are now following up on their
opinions. You can get their opinions at law4life1000@yahoo.com via
    Harleys email.
    thanks to all.
    Peace to all
    Harley

  11. chuck says:

As the “Hands Up” coalition, having made it’s demands to Law Enforcement (No doubt, Eric Holder’s Justice Department pores over them as I write, a new Magna Carta for a bereaved populace seeking “Justice” for the safety of “Gentle Giants” everywhere.), the penultimate move prior to a violent, hoped for coda, we must, as reasonable citizens, ask ourselves just what these protesters, who, represent so many, actually want?

What they want, is a continuation of the destruction that feeds the Main Stream Media vampires (They care not for the goodness or evil in the taste of blood, all blood taste the same.), that thrills the Pusillanimous Politicians with their fingers held high in a cloud of tear gas testing the winds and stoking the fires in hopes of reelection and a cry of agony so loud from the cacophony of misery in Ferguson as to attract ever more buzzards to the blood simple, death grinding, necrotic, cancerous movement that was birthed with the best of intentions in Civil Rights Legislation so very long ago.

What these protesters are really killing, isn’t the just the people who own businesses and homes in Ferguson, they are killing what you can’t see. The Rule of Law, the Social Contract and the underpinnings of civilization (Paved streets, grocery stores with food on the shelves and goods and services that are part and parcel with said agreements) in the quest to win the Culture War. Identity trumps all, as is taught by our Liberal Overlords and Ferguson has “RATCHETED” this struggle up to new levels. The protesters want to kill what was between the buildings burned, chased away from the now empty streets in a paroxysm of multicultural ego that proves their worth without any actual accomplishment.

There are dead black thugs killed at a rate of 10,000 per year by other black thugs and all we get are candle light vigils and assurances from out Politicians, Professors and the 4th Estate, that it is “Institutional Racism” that is at fault.

Here in KC, after the death of Angel Hooper and the now arrest of the usual suspects (Black Thugs), the mayor gives a speech about Gun Control. He, as is our “If I Had A Son” President is a disgrace.

Crash is a didactic bullsh*t movie that insists that we all look for the source of racial strife outside of ourselves, outside of the actual people who inflict actual damage in our society. Through the whole movie, it seemed to me, Don Cheadle was in a fugue state looking for reasons, for poetry, for solace, for deliverance from above or from a power greater than ourselves to fix problems so obvious, but so hard to face.

We will get to face them again, sometime this week.

Maybe they will make a movie.

  12. harley says:

no chuck….they will have to learn to coexist…we will have to learn to coexist.
    here’s Harleys predictions:
    1. Russian economy will break down.
    2. arab nations that depended on oil to keep them up will break down and
lead to an all out transition in each states leadership.
    3. American economy will boom. There will be not enough manpower to
cover the available job openings. America will struggle to provide
the personel to handle the millions of openings for qualified
people to do the work. Prices of everything in the labor market
with be 3 to 4 times what they were in 2013.
    4. The American underclass will require more assistance…be cause we
lackthe ability to provide them with the skills to fill todays new job positions.
    5. people like southy…who despite my political oppositioin will become the
victims of a massive social/economic revolutions to fill the gaps.
    6. millionsof newcitizens will come to America as they did in the
1910 and 1920’s lookingfor new lives…and we will provide them with it.
    7. the huge middle class of the world (in india/china/Russia etc) will want
a piece of the pie and America will be the force to provide it to them.
    8. Africa: will still be stuck in 60’s revolution…until the economic forces
realize that Africa contains enough raw materials from lithium to oil to
take over the world…that the people there say we want a better life…a better
    standard of living.
    9. America: with the aging populationand zero growth…we will find the
oil fields that eluded us in the 80’s and 90’s, A glut of fracked oil will make
America energy independent in just a few years…we’ll be paying $1.95 at the
pump (mostly state and fed taxes)bevause the government will realize
we don’t need mid east oil anymore…we’ve got it right here. We’ll build a
pipeline (keystone) so that the oil companies can stay in business…but that
oil goes to Europe/china/india as their middle class expands rapidly.
    10. America will see a boomas its never seen. More money than we ever
realized we could bring in. But we’ll still fight over what immigrants get let
in…who gets the gravy…we’ll be able to write off student loans and grants to
prepare our children for the high tech career we’ll need to fill.
Yet…our politicians will still fight for who gets 55 and who get 45%! We ‘ll
still have to figurev out how to educate an entire generation of ameicans
who we forgot about…we’l l still haveto rebuild our cities and bridges and roads
    and infrastructure.
china and india will be borrowing money from us…the 99per centb of americans
will still need assistance…but the revenues will far exceed the liabilities and we
will again become the greatest country in the history of evoluation.
We may aruge about where we came from…we may aruge over social problems..
but those are minor…..huge revenues will come from the legalization of
drugs like marijuana….billions in taxs to the state and fed governments inst4ad of
    the cartels in mexico.
Unfortunately…some of us won’t see this. I’ts the changing of America. Its the
eventual future of our hard work.
We will realize that wars are worthless…and never accomplish anything
    s[ectacluar.
The superpowers like Russia are fading now…facing severe economic
problems in keeping their nations functioning.
THIS IS OUR CHANCE. THIS IS OUR OPPORTUNITY. EITHER WE GRASP
IT AND USE IT FOR OUR CHILDREN AND BEYOND or WE FIGHT EACH
OTHER AND LOSE THE GREATEST CHANCE TO CHANGE OUR ENTIRE
PLANNT THAT WE MAY NEVER HAVE AGAIN.
THE climate is changing. We can aruge for years about whether it’s our
fault or just apart of nature. But why? the economic opportunities for
renewable energy…the chance to chang our path…we can arugue for years..
but why….we know its changing…use our advanced technology and the economics
of what we have and save ourselves…whether its caused by natureof mankind
The world is changing. Many lt usmay never see the results of what we have
    laid a path to.
We have a chance. To do what past generations have done for us. Give us
the tools and ability to build an even greater world than what we inherited.
That is what we will be remembered for. What did we leave for our kids/our
grandkids/and future generations to be a part of.
We have that decision laid in front of us now. What direction will we choose.
God bless our veterans who gave their lives for our country. God bless America@

  13. Jeffrey Heavin says:

The Bell Curve tolls for the civilization whites have created in St. Louis. A city where police are forced to go undercover as pizza delivery drivers because of violent crimes against those employed in this field. Black crime and dysfunction are destroying all of America’s cities.Blacks create communities where all trappings of civilization collapse. Disappear. Interestingly, wherever the former white residents of these decaying, now majority black suburbs retreat to, prosperity quickly follows. Let Darren Wilson’s innocence be made public. Let the blacks riot. Let it all be done.

  14. Nick says:

So Ferguson, Missouri, was about human nature combined with the butterfly wings in Brazil theory? Good to know…

“After the decision is announced I’ll post the real results of what the decision means. ”

This sentence is presumptuous (not to mention poorly constructed) on so many levels as to be beyond risible, especially given your past attempts at current events analysis.

However I look forward to reading it: my latest theory is you are but a construct, a white-author-pretending-to-be-black sock puppet designed to churn readership. Perhaps you are even the product of a committee, which would explain any number of logical inconsistencies in your writings.

I am writing a full scale article to be published on several sites. Copies have
been emailed to the individuals who requested them from law4life email address.
Not sure why Hearne is still holding back on my comments. I have vital information
from my contacts in st. Louis including a major breaking development that
will be reported via news conference on Monday.
Wondering why they’re holding all this under wraps. Could it be the GJ
is still getting evidence? Or is the timing their goal. I was surprised as many
people were that there wasn’t a “news dump” on Friday night late or early
Saturday morning to avoid any problems with kids in school.
I was told that all local schools will be informed about three hours in advance
of the release to allow students to leave school with parents.
My story on daily kos should be getting wrapped up soon.
I am getting word via local tv station in St. Louis along with key leaders
    in the coalition.

The only thing of yours I’m holding back Harley are some of the ad hominem attacks on known individuals that you mindlessly repeat as nauseam (how’s that, two Latin phrases in a single sentence?).

Other than that, you’re free within reason to pontificate to your heart’s content whether you know anything or not.

      How’s that?

    • paulwilsonkc says:

Ever read something so stupid it makes you squint?
Make sure and link your Daily KOS story here, you know, so we all have the pleasure of reading it. I’m sure Hearne will allow that.
      No link = another Harleyism.

Protesters are preparing for a march (nonviolent) and supplies
and donations are coming in from around the nation.
Appears that there will be demonstrations but still some evidence
to be seen by GJ that has just been released.
