Glazer: Chiefs Face Critical Test & This Week’s Picks

AFLart28Big road game for the Chiefs Sunday…

The Buffalo Bills have always been tough on our guys up there and this game is crucial for both teams. Kansas City sits with a 5-3 record as do the Bills, so the winner moves into the likely a postseason group.

A 6-3 Chiefs team sounds dangerous to me.

Our guys have some big games coming up, Seattle at KC next week and Denver and San Diego at home. A win Sunday will convince many NFL observers that KC is for real. I’m in the group that thinks this year’s 5-3 team is much better than last year’s phony 9-0 team.

Why?

Balance. Thus far this squad has the league’s best defense, the number one pass D ,and nobody has scored a rushing TD on KC yet. Nice.

The Chiefs running game is second to none and QB Alex Smith is not making mistakes or turnovers. It’s the best we’ve looked since 1997. Wow. However we have a long way to go, and winning at Buffalo will go along ways to give the Chiefs confidence and credibility.

IMG_5006Right now I have Denver and New England as the top two AFC teams followed by Indy then, Pittsburgh, Chiefs, Miami and the Bills. So we’re in the hunt.

K-State has emerged as a contender for the final four. Can they beat TCU on the road? I don’t think so, but it will be close. KU may win its first Big 12 game in a million years at home against Iowa State. I say close, but nope, they don’t win. Missouri is up and down every week, but have a one game lead in their division. I”m still thinking they are not there yet, but once again they’re in the hunt for a nice bowl game.

the only thing we know for sure is that the big 12 is the worst its ever been.
2 lowly schools who haven’t played a decent team (outside of auburn) now
are at the top of the league…k state and tcu? are you kidding me.
Bill is a good coach but in the sec they’d tear his team apart…even the
    last place team.
The bestthis losing conference can hope for is the longhorn network
falls apart or the contract is dismantled. Til then this Little bunch of
nothings will scrub it out for the pieces of scraps left from so many
bad teams congregated in one league.
Again…we are so happy to have left these league of losers in the dust
to play their football among the worst players in the nation.
seriously….can anyone take this little 12 league seriously when talking
    about playoffs.
tcu? k state? come onguys they couldn’t carry the jock straps for any
    sec team.
Oh and the big news…who’s going to be stupid enough to coach Kansas…
literallyand without doubt the worst team in the history of theleague
    and college football history.
I mean they’re lucky to get 11 guys on the field!
    what a wreck~!!!!!!!!
well brownback got reelected…that’s bad news for ku fans…this guy won’t
be happy til ku drops to the same league as the gorillas.

  2. CG says:

Well college went decent. KU finally won a Big 12 game. So I lost that one…feel good about pros…

  3. chuck says:

KU was brain dead the day they fired Mangino.

    • harley says:

you were brain dead on the day yu were conceived chuckles!
Mangino was not the long term winner ku needed. sure he got lucky
a couple of years but he still couldn’t get past MU.
And that’s all these hawk fans cared about.
KU needs to empty what little money they have left after paying 2 or 3
former coaches to go down the road,,,,…set up a lemonade stand outside
that barn allen field house and collect a few quarters and go beg the
governor to allocated them some money after he robbed them and
maybe get a 2 or 3 division coach to come to ku as acoach.
Here’s the problem…MU is taking over the kc area for recruits…they
justgot the best qb from kc…are taking all the big name stars from kc…
which leaves ku with really nothing close.
Whowould want to playwith a 1-10 team when they can play
with a division winning teamin the best conference in thenation.
seriously….go small ku…maybe go get the gorillas coach…he’s a winner..
try something differnet. I’m sure he’ll comecheap (50-60K a year) toget
      out of Pittsburgh Kansas.
Then go to the jr. colleges and build your team that way. Takethe few scraps
that MU doesn’t want from the kc area….put together a team and if you
add one extra win a year by 2024 you’ve got a contender!!!!!!! That’s if
      texas/Oklahoma/etc leave the league.
What a mess. Or the next best thing for ku is tocompletely drop football..
leave the big 12 (or be kicked out)…start a superbball league and attempt
to bail out the athletic department wit that money.
Self would rule that league…they’d play some top competition…make a
few bucks…and maybe they get out of debt.
I warned you hawkfansabout this political situation…you didn’t listen
to Harley and now you have 4more years in the desert.
Listen to Harley…he will solve your problemsand make you happy.
But I do hope self has a championship team this year…he’s a cool
guy but you can see he’s on a short leash…he want’s something: you better
get itto him or he’s gone. There’s 100 schools/proteams that want him
and he can get what he wants if you don’t give it to him.
p.s. his wife is keeping him in Lawrence. If not for that he’d be hightailing
it to Cleveland or l.a in th4 nba or waiting for roy to step down at n.c…..
you better listen to Harley….or else!

As a former college football player, his abuse (both reported and unreported) fell far beyond what was acceptable behavior. Ive had disciplinarian coaches, Ive had ones with anger problems, Ive had yellers.

The level of abuse he was giving his players was way beyond what was ever considered acceptable.

I’m sure you have a 10 paragraph ctrl-c ctrl-v diatribe about how millenials are going soft or something that fits.

“this year’s 5-3 team is much better than last year’s phony 9-0 team.”

    – record isn’t, DB play is, WR play isn’t (worse)… six of one, half a dozen the other

    “Why?”

    – because mediocrity is their middle name… the Chiefs make the same noise Hoover vacuums do (‘blowing it’ their calling card, each ride to perdition same every football season since 1970)

    “Balance.”

    – serendipity, aka smoke & mirrors, i.e., parity laden good fortune… which will go the way the dinosaurs by season’s end, as it has/does, every. Imagine such ‘un’balanced team the Swiss Chiefs post season: think BALT vs @KC 2010 – BALT 30 @KCindy 7 -the 2010 team reminds of the current one, 2014.

“Thus far this squad has the league’s best defense, the number one pass D”

    – poppycock – Chiefs rank only 5th in the NFL on defense & dead last in fumbles recovered. #1 in pass D? Only 19th vs the rush. 3rd in sacks? 18th interceptions. Ranked only 18th in forced fumbles, just 12th scoring defense their 25 points per game on average.

“and nobody has scored a rushing TD on KC yet. Nice”

    – and nobody WRs has scored any receiving TDS for KC yet; not so nice – six of one, half a dozen the other.

“The Chiefs running game is second to none”

    – double poppycock – Chiefs rank just 6th in the NFL, only 4th best the AFC. Charles ranks only 15th & Davis but 20; DAL Murray has gained 1,133 all by himself to KC’s combined total Charles/Davis 835.

Comparison too, HOU has an duo that has gained 1,o56 yards combined, PITT’s duo 977, BALT’s duo 856 … even SEAT with one RB & one QB has 942 yards – also more than KC’s not so dynamic duo’s 835, be it Charles & Davis or Smith & either the RB’s, any combination, any the two.

    – or any big plays of his own… ‘small ball’ went out of vogue with the Packers 1960’s, and died completely with the Chiefs ‘Offense of the 70’s’ (which expired end of 1971); alas, Marty Schottenheimer didn’t learn this till he was yanked off the KC stage 1998.

    “It’s the best we’ve looked since 1997.”

    – when 13-3 we lost to a DEN team with a worse record – ditto 2003, when our 13-3 lost to a IND team with a worse record – and 1995 when our 13-3 went down to 9-7 IND same – and – well… TBC 2014

    “Wow.”

    – tilting at windmills, watching paint dry, mistaking exhalation breath for outpouring compassion and watching the regular season preliminaries NFL season. Alas, always give way the reality post season, the end…

  6. CG says:

    UH WELL THE CHIEFS won!

  7. Kerouac says:

FINAL SCORE: Bills 13 Bills mistakes 10 kcindy 7

Another underwhelming performance by the swiss-chiefs… dominated start to finish by the Bills, unforced errors and officials gifts same the difference; kcindy still yet to ‘win’ a game on their own this season.

    Game lo-lites:

Through 9 games, still no td receptions by any kcindy WR – they’re now on the brink of setting a dubious NFL record.

The ‘best rushing attack in the NFL’ (snicker) again did not materialize: charles & davis combined again fail to total 100 yards… the best RB on the field easily BUFF’s Dixon.

6 QB sacks allowed by the swiss-chiefs offensive line… and it could have easily been 12.

Still vying with the Chargers and Raiders to stay out of the AFC West cellar, still trail the Broncos by two games (having already lost to DEN).

Now, a 4-game losing streak appends: down to defeat to SEAT, OAK, DEN, ARIZ, followed by two losses in their final three games vs OAK, PITTS and SD.

A sub .500 season – just as Kerouac predicted. ‘Twill all be over but the gnashing of teeth in 7 more weeks – no post season – just ‘wait till next year part 46’, 2015.

    🙂
