Glazer: Scribe Admits Error of His Ways, Hops on Royals Bandwagon

c1280x720_59Eight playoff wins in a row – never been done before…

Our Kansas City Royals are UNDEFEATED. What a story. What a team. What a fan base. Everyone in Kansas City is a Royals fan now. Hell, most of the nation is wearing blue or a Royals hat or t shirt. It’s a true Cinderella Story. Longtime losers turned HUGE WINNERS.

And yes, we all know they’re going to win the World Series – they can’t be stopped.

Strange how everyone is on the wagon now, huh?

Well, everyone but me.

I can’t be on the wagon because I wrote, IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER AND IT’S OVER.

When the Royals fell to Detroit n their final couple critical chances to win the division, I wrote that maybe they’d qualify for a wild card game. Maybe.

Boy, was I wrong and boy is this town happy.

oh-you-posted-a-race-bating-pic-on-facebook-tell-me-again-about-how-youre-smarter-than-everybody-else-thumbOf course I was the only one in the media who said that, right? Everyone but me knew this team was headed to greatness.

During the season I often spoke with my pals about the Chiefs and Royals. I got this from almost all of them, “Aw, I don’t follow the Royals anymore, can’t name more than one or two players. They suck. Chiefs, I’ll watch them on TV but don’t care much anymore – they suck too.”

My favorite line was this: I’d say, well would you even go to a Royals game? And the answer always was, “Well, it’s a nice atmosphere – if my kids wanted to go – but they don’t, so naw.”

BzXGwKKIYAALcxxIn other words, there was precious little interest from most people who are quote unquote in the know.  Sure, there are thousands of Royals fans like Brandon. But notice that not until the playoffs did you see a “sea of blue” on the street. Not at all.

Hell, I can’t go to Quick Trip now without seeing almost everyone wearing Royals swag of some type. It’s kinda fun though.

The last two weeks from the same haters, I got, “Hey Craig, you’re a connected guy, I remember you used to get me Royals and Chiefs tix, can you get some playoff tickets, I’d appreciate it.”

I knew early on I might get some radio tickets – nosebleed but still tickets.  I’m no longer close to the front offices of the Royals or Chiefs for tickets. Those days date back to my OUTLAW RED FRIDAY and BUST OUT IN BLUE days.

Not to mention that I’ve since made it quite clear to both front offices and players that I think they are two very bad franchises.

By1nWblCcAAHN9OUntil Now!

So it’s not fair for guys like me to jump on the bandwagon.

I can enjoy it from a distance, but all you overnight Royals fans, well you decide. I guess it’s cool. They are the people who silently watched our teams fail for decades so you can’t be mad at them can you?

And hey Royals, you just became THE TEAM in KC.

Three World Championship appearances compared to THE CHIEFS TWO.

IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER.

I think the Royals will win it all. I think they will be a playoff team for years to come. Win another World Series? Those take skill, luck and timing. This year this team has all that.

Next year, who knows. It ain’t that easy.

Hey admin., I’m guessing the art work on Glaze was done by Mark Valentine. Maybe also the lead art on Sutherland’s piece on Orman. Glad that you are taking advantage of his talent.

Also, congratulations to the Royals and everyone in Kansas City. We are all walking on air. Not a lot of work getting done today.

  2. Bob Loblaw says:

Quite honestly, it’s hard to bag on you with this one because who the hell didn’t think it was over? No one thought this was going to happen, even after they won that ridiculously awesome incredible wild card game. It’s been a helluva fun ride, that’s for sure, and I’m for one glad we’ve got another week left!

  3. the dude says:

And yes, we all know they’re going to win the World Series – they can’t be stopped.

Uh, FranSansisco might have something to say about that unless you want to royally jinx the royals, dummy.

    • admin says:

Do we believe in jinxes, dude?

      How about voodoo?

      • the dude says:

Not voodoo, but I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman’s back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald was an absolute patsy. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.

  4. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Dammit, Glaze! Now you are PICKING them to win? Well, that seals it. Giants in 5. Thanks a lot, buddy!

  5. tiad says:

“….most of the nation is wearing blue or a Royals hat or t shirt.”

Really? Really? Jr. might just have to run out and do a crowd count of the nation for that.

    • admin says:

      tiad, tiad, tiad…

I know it’s the copy editor in you (pretty good guess, huh?) but long as you’re being anal, please note that it is yon scribe – who’s name appears in the byline – who has made this entirely scientific assessment.

      Not moi

  6. Jack Springer says:

A good way to say you’re sorry is to shut up and stop posting.

  7. Lance The Intern says:

“Aw, I don’t follow the Royals anymore, can’t name more than one or two players. They suck…..”

Not sure if this says more about you OR the pals you hang around with.

  8. Baseball? says:

I can name a few: Lorenzo Lamas, Commissioner Gordon, Mike Moussaka, Bob Butler, Panty Shields, Kelvin Ferrari…

  9. Kerouac says:

Knee meet jerk, i.e., not so fast there re: the statement “Eight playoff wins in a row – never been done before”… to which Kerouac replies ‘horse puckey’.

The following is from a week and more ago, but says it all:

The San Francisco Giants extended their National League-record streak of postseason wins to 10 with a 2-1 victory in 18 innings over the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Game 2 of the NL Division Series.

Kerouac hasn’t researched and thus isn’t aware if there in fact might be an even longer streak post season ‘MLB’, not exclusive NL . At any, Royals will be playing an different breed of ‘team’ when they meet (appears) the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS. Something is gonna give, whether it be the end nigh on 30 years wandering baseball’s wilderness KC, or the GIANTS 3rd World Championship in the last five years; we shall see.

The Royals beat SF earlier this regular season? So too did the more talented than KC opponent LA Dodgers beat the GIANTS more often regular season… yet the GIANTS are now on the precipice history 3 in 5, while the Dodgers are in their typical ‘wait till next year part 27’ holding pattern. Hate see either team lose, but, ties only look good on otherwise clothing bereft, unencumbered ladies.

    ~

Wrote the following (below) in response HC’s “Much Ado About Nothing”, but it is worth another post, Kerouac deciding favor the masses again:

    – Royals since 1985, Chiefs since 1970… not up for debate too, one will become even more an aside than they have been, the fat lady as Freddie Mercury having yet sing ‘We Are The Champions’ – or conversely, even’ if’.

In a contest second class franchises, Chiefs become undisputed second best – after thought in KC, Royals fluke their way to glory. Other hand, Royals implode as the odds & Kerouac suggest, Humpty Dumpty’s fall may be too great for local fandom bear, alarm clock sounding, dream ending & morning after appending… not much experience disappointment this magnitude these here parts, since January 1967.

As one who has been a Chiefs fan since day one, and A(thlectics)’s till they departed, (Blues/Veneruzzo too, Kings not so much), our pox is nothing compared the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Browns, Phoenix Suns. Enjoy the imbibe, but drink not deeply for a sip is but the desert in disguise, sometimes mirage.

    • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Yo, K-Man. You want to use multiple seasons for the record? Royals are at 11 straight (and counting). Giants record stopped at 10.

      • Kerouac says:

The statement made by the author was “Eight playoff wins in a row – never been done before” – ‘that’ was wrong, and Kerouac noted said.

The issue now presented by you – “11” – a new and aft the fact original statement not referenced before; suspect it will fall by the wayside sooner rather than later.

Upshot: will be two ‘team’s of destiny – not the all too common ‘overhyped’ heavyweights the pundits embrace (Dodger$, Red $ox, Yankee$ et al.) Ought to be a seesaw affair and reiterate, hate to see either team lose.

EM Cioran said, “As a general rule, men expect disappointment: they know they must not be impatient, that it will come soon or later, that it will only hold off long enough for them proceed with their undertakings of the moment.”

KC fandom has seen this play out too many times, Kerouac too. . Never before the perennially also-rans Royals, but, many times post season the other favored, Chiefs…so hope for the best, but gird yourselves for disappointment. Nod the Fram commercial” “You can pay it now or pay it later.”

        • b12 says:

Geez, K. You’re that guy that predicts everything will go south, in every way, in that pretentious “refer to myself in the third person” way of communicating.

Was Christmas at your house predicated by your parents reminding you that December 25th wasn’t actually Jesus’ birthday, that the Christmas tree was used first in some pagan stuff and that Santa Claus’ first name rearranged spells satan?

Get over yourself and enjoy something.

I’d rather read harley’s diatribes against wislun than your pontifications.

          • Kerouac says:

That you doth protest too, too much and confuse Kerouac with Norman Vincent Peale; be more so H. L. Mencken. That you notice at all a tribute to … me. Keep on keepin’ on & headin’ further south that otHer guy’s direction.

And as it surely will, when disappointment finds you Royally flushed… remember 1985.

    • harley says:

      K….you’re losing on your comments.
      stop.
watch for Harleys upcoming story. It will be interesting!!!!!

    • Shawnster says:

Kerouac, you have been just as wrong as Glazer about the Royals. At least he had the stones to admit it & own it. You continue to blather on and on about nothing. Each post full of sound and fury ultimately signifying nothing. Lord knows our sports teams have made it really easy cast stones in their general direction over the years, but come on man give it a rest for a while. Admit you were wrong and really don’t know much about baseball and move on. Spare us all the faux prose and silly imagery of your usual posts and man up.

      • Kerouac says:

… and still another comes, reads and reacts the Lays Potato Chip blogdom – Kerouac.

Like the team led at halftime, the one was up the 7th inning, and the US Olympic one basketball won it only to lose it – ain’t official until the official blows the final whistle.

Now grab a sandwich, a big frosty orange drink, perspective & some Valium… dude.

  10. balbonis moleskine says:

I’M SO HIGH ON LO CAIN I CAN’T FEEL MY FACE

  11. CG says:

LOOK the year is magic, in the end. No question. But guys lets be real, nobody, I mean nobody thought these guys were world champs. They are and were a nice club, on the way up, but a world beater…well it all came together in a blink. I hope and think they win it all, its THEIR TIME, sound familiar?

Lets not beat up on anyone who was not ‘all over the Royals’ cause nobody really was in regards to this result. We are all RIDNG ON THE WAGON. NOW. So get a grip, come together forgive those of us who doubted them…they did earn that doubt. Right? Right. Lets all come together and pull for that world title. THE FANS DESERVE IT. THE CITY DESERVES IT. Simple as that.
