Glazer: Unreal Week for KC Sports & This Week’s Football Picks

imagesWhat a week for Kansas City sports….

We all know whats up; the Kansas City Royals are flying high. First playoff win for Royals or Chiefs in more than 20 years. Unreal.

Head coach Andy Reid has been ultra handy with this year’s patchwork Kansas City Chiefs squad. Beating New England was no big upset, but the score and complete great performance by the Chiefs was the best game they’ve played in years.

Outstanding.

The Chiefs have an offense, that’s for sure. In fact they will give the 49er’s a run on Sunday. Still I like the SF boys in a close game. MU and K-State both will be in bowl games this winter for sure, how high up is the question. Kansas did what I said they would do, they fired Charlie Weiss.

Weiss leaves with millions of dollars and more to come from KU and Notre Dame. He will collect over 60 million from all his lousy coaching thus far, so he indeed is the winner.

Now on to the picks…

    Trap game for Cincy.

  2. Kerouac says:

@ SF – 100 (points as degrees the field)
    KC – 0 (xygen, cpr & a waaaambulance)

One ‘KCinderella’ to a town be enough. Royals balloon will burst later than the Chiefs, but the deux will end up cohabitants their customary residence the end… nowhere.

Unless either be Peter walking on the water with Jesus, David to their opposition’s Goliath, the 68 Jets, ’69 Mets & 1980 US Olympic Hockey team all rolled into one, Kerouac remains resolute: wait till next year parts 30 and 46.

  3. Jack Springer says:

Fair weather piece from the man who keeps putting down the Royals, Missouri athletics, and the Chiefs.

Go back to your sleazy bar.

  4. KCMonarch says:

Marshall was up 28-7 BEFORE this post even went up. New strategy?

  5. balbonis moleskine says:

Since he is unwilling to pick a winner in the one game that matters tomorrow:

LAA- CJ Wilson (LHP) vs KCR- J Shields (RHP)

    take KC -135

the under 7 at even money isn’t a bad bet but who wants to bet that one straight up win is the most fun option here. Royals +1.5 at a payout of +165 seems to be a bad idea.

    • CG says:

I like it, I don’t do baseball bets. Wish I did, I’m like KC all the way at 10 to l…now not when it was available. Hah. I like your call.

  6. CG says:

Good start went 2-1 in college. So we are today at 10-14..still losing but lets see if we can gain ground.

  7. Orphan of the Road says:

What’s the over/under on Andy f’n up the clock with a WTF timeout?

Kerouac seems to be a party pooper rather than giving us the facts like a Dutch Uncle this year. Perhaps his Bolts being the class of the AFC and Rivers adoption of adult behavior have him distracted from writing how the Oracles have favored KC for their bemusement in crushing dreams.

With my Temple Owls 3-1 (a win over an SEC team. OK, it was Vandy), former coach Bruce Arians leading the football Cardinals and former QB Todd Bowles is their D Coordinator and a possible head coach in the future.

Who needs the Big 12 or SEC to enjoy college football?

    • harley says:

you do orphan….the sec carries college football every year…what are
you gonna watch……temple versus penn OR texas a and m versus
      Alabama.
YOU MIDWEST HOOSIERS BETTER GET USED TO SEC RULING
      CLLEGE FOOTBALL….FOREVER.
the rest of the teams are just pop warners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SEC SEC SEC…..where the great players go to play…..
NO MORE GLAZE! NO MORE GLAZE!

  8. Kerouac says:

That’s the KCindy we’ve come to know & laugh at again & again as the bumblin, stumblin (but not so much rumblin) pretenders get trounced by the 49ers.

Upshot: Swiss Chiefs on schedule their a 2-14 end.

    ~ Game Notes ~

49ers Lloyd ate up the Swiss Chiefs D

Poe got manhandled for most of the game

49ers definitely kept the better QB in Kaepernick

SF has the better 1-2 punch RB: Gore/Hyde roll for 150

No confidence in Santos – KCindy passed on letting him try a 50+ yard fg while the 49ers Dawson was nails – twice – from beyond 50

A bye week for the team football favor forgot, then it’s on to San Diego to get another beat down, this time from the Chargers.

    @ SD 45
    KCindy 10

  9. Orphan of the Road says:

Who was surprised when Andy had no timeouts left at the end? Class? Bueller?

SD appears to be the class of the AFC at this point. Don’t be a sore winner by beating us like dogs the rest of the season. We can hope to be a burr under the saddle of teams late in the season.

I don’t know if SF has a better running duo. They do have a coach who knows how to use a running game.

  10. Kerouac says:

The Chiefs will get worse as the season goes on, record-wise. More film dissected the defensive coordinators, KC’s predictable offense (run Charles, throw it short Charles, throw it short the TE’s, throw it short the WR’s – throw it up, hope & pray) will yield diminishing returns. Today, only 265 yards vs a defense that had been allowing more than that on average.

Their offensive line is, save for Fisher. WR’s scare no one/can’t stretch the field. An over-hyped prima dona TE (he plays wide at times for lack of blocking skill & a lack decent WR’s same) isn’t near enough. A gimmick here (Thomas – he’ll be snapped in two before season’s end, his 165 lbs. (he’s already missed 1/4 the season due a minor injury; maybe ditch jersey #13.) QB Smith too is an IR designation waiting happen.

    And that’s the good news.

Defense as special teams is hit & miss: the former gave up 100 yards more today than did SF’s, Swiss-Chiefs trying stop the 49er run game. Return game was mediocre and the kick defense made a critical error, turning a 4th down into 1st for SF. Meanwhile, over-hyped Colquitt was nothing special; his touchback came at a bad time. Chiefs got a break by SF’s Davis being out; would’ve likely imitated SD’s Gates & scorched our S’s (just like Gates whenever he plays vs KC/Berry, latter the most over-hyped player KC franchise history.)

Still believe (sans injuries) DEN will win the West easily, SD second & OAK /KCindy will battle to stay out the cellar.

    • CG says:

K we both agreed early that this was a bad team. They have come along way. The league is weaker, the teams more even than the past so dominate clubs help a weak KC Chiefs look decent. They look decent. Lets see what they do in SD.

  11. CG says:

Went 3-3 can’t get rolling. Who knew that the Pat’s would be on fire, but they were. The NFL is strange not one undefeated team left by week four. Odd.

  12. CG says:

    11-16 record, no improvement yet.

    • harley says:

who needs the sec…the ncaa…they’d be dead on a string without the sec…
sec rules! If you love football you got to love sec football.
      the crowds…the money…the excitement…the coaches…the personalities..
the roar of the crowd…of course you could get the same watching
      the ku football team play.
      sec!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
