Glazer: Royals Baseball is Boring but It Got ‘Em to the Playoffs!

baseball-boringThe Kansas City Royals have all but secured their 1st playoff slot in 29 years…

And in all likelihood most Royals fans were too young back then to remember much about the 1985 World Series. So this is big time for Kansas City.

AND IT’S ABOUT TIME!!!

Yes, they’ll be a wild card, And yes, they’ll have almost the same record as last year.

However the team has so little hitting it makes it tough to watch them.

They’re boring.

imagesHey, but they did it, so let’s give them their props. Kansas City fans deserve this so I’m happy for the Royals faithful.

All season long we saw that they had no hitting or big bat.

That was not a surprise.

The fact the Royals made a wild card spot with so little hitting reminds all of us what great pitching looks like.

45463_548442588529717_455925493_nThe Royals played 18 games in September where the team scored 2 runs or less and still had a winning record for the month.

That’s damn good but damn boring.

So let’s review.

Yes, the Royals are a talented group moving in the right direction. And I’m sure they’ll find a hitter one day. Hey and who knows, as crazy as baseball can be in the post season, it’s anyone’s World Series.

How cool would that be?

I was pretty sure they wouldn’t get here, so I don’t deserve a seat on the bus now, but good luck Royals fans!

Craig, your last several articles about the Royals are absolute proof that your views on baseball are irrelevant and uninformed.

This was a damn exciting season for true Royals fans. Last season it was obvious they were on an upward path (although you were pretty certain they sucked). With a solid core of good young players who have come up through the farm system together and actually seem to like each other, it was obvious to anyone paying attention they were growing into a playoff contender.

Yet Craig, virtually everything you have ever written about the Royals has been negative. As recently as last week you were arrogantly dismissing their chances of making the playoffs altogether, prompting Lefty and others to call you out on it. They were right.

We’re making the playoffs this year, and with our pitching staff could go a long way. Or Jon Lester could throw the game of his life on Tuesday and we could be one and done. Either way, making the playoffs is a big deal that can’t be dismissed as a fluke.

And we’ll be real contenders again next year, and the year after, even with this “average” team with no great players. The next three to four years will be considered the “glory days” long after all of our best players have been bought off by richer teams.

That’s not boring at all. Last night’s game was not boring. Even the game Wednesday, when we lost, was not boring. Tonight’s game, when we clinch the wild card, will not be boring.

That’s just my opinion, one that I would be willing to bet is shared by many of this site’s silent readers.

Even so, feel free to make personally degrading comments about me in response. I probably deserve it.

NOT AT ALL we are entitled to our own opinions. I did say they wouldn’t win the division, 50/50 on wild card, so they made the wild card. I was not on the bus and said so..so what is your bitch? We all have our thoughts. I think it was boring you liked it, OK.

      You’re fine, dream writer326.

I agree with you up to a point. Any time you are in a playoff race – even though MLB has eased the entry requirements as much as they have in an effort to keep things interesting – the tension in those games makes them exciting. And not boring.

On the other hand, for far more people than not, baseball in general is mostly boring, which in part is explained b y a Harris Interactive Poll that pegs baseball as people’s favorite sport at a measly 15 percent.

Where I somewhat agree with Craig is that when you string out more than 100 games over six months, plopping down in front of a television or whatever for two or three hours to watch pitching duels, low scoring games – and just baseball in general – takes up too much time and is, you know, kinda boring.

Obviously not to fantasy league types and devotees of the sport.
But did you catch the quote this past summer by Anthony Rendon, the star infielder for the Washington Nationals?

“I don’t watch baseball (on television) — it’s too long and boring,” Rendon told the Washington Post.

So while Craig saying the same is certainly a feather ruffler for fans like you, Brandon and millions more, how controversial is it really?

Frankly, it kind of puts him in the mainstream…except during the playoffs and World Series, of course!

You’re right, Hearne, there are a lot of people who think baseball is boring. I have never watched a complete soccer game for the same reason, so I understand.

My beef (or bitch) with this article by Craig is that it is shallow and comes after he has spent the entire season relentlessly deriding the Royals as a team of ill-talented nobodies who are winning because the other teams suck worse. Now, on the cusp of KC’s first playoff appearance in three decades, the “scribe” continues his derision.

I’m not suggesting that he (or any of the local sports talk radio guys, for that matter) needs to be a cheerleader. But all of them need to realize there really is something between sucks and perfect.

    “Royals Baseball is Boring”

    – pick your poison: A’s baseball was exciting… sideshows upon the field if not success the standings: Charlie Finley pulling the strings, O the mule in RF, Pennant Porch too, rabbits popping out of the ground (if not winners, from a hat, baseball) behind home plate & eight Manager’s hired (and eight fired) in 7 years… but it couldn’t get ’em into the playoffs.

    I miss the Athletic’s…

  4. TruthCheck says:

I’d focus on making my comedy club less boring before I started throwing stones in this town. If you held yourself or your business to the same standards you hold sports teams to, you could actually do something amazing.

    • CG says:

I see I’d like to think we have and I have. Boring, well unless Chris Tucker, Lewis Black, Larry the Cable Guy, Lisa Lamponelli, Louie Anderson, Damon Wayons, Carlos Mencia, Colin Kane, T.J.Miller, Judy Tenuta, Tom Arnold, Steve O, Jim Jefferies, Eddie Ifft, Michael Winslow, I can keep going, are boring..then I don’t see any point to your comment. Stanfords has always been considered in its now 40 years and 35 plus in comedy an icon in the industry here and nationally. No argument. I have now added my own podcast to the weekly events, soon a late night club and outside patio for dining and entertainment, the new Stanfords is one of maybe 5 comedy clubs to have a real restaurant with a real chef..I can keep going…sorry you don’t think its amazing, some would disagree, like maybe 100,000 or so…hey you can’t please everyone. Neither can the Royals. For 30 years they have sucked for the most part and as a KC fan, and a person who wants our city to shine it has left me empty as have the Chumps…so yeah I’m down on them and their programs…maybe the Royals will win it all and I can say…wow we have a winner…hope so…as for comedy we have been second to nobody I am aware of here or anywhere else…any comic that mattered has played our club or clubs over the last 4 decades…just being here is amazing only THE COMEDY STORE IN LA is older and owned by the same family who opened it, the Shores..we are second..hows that.

      • TruthCheck says:

You’d think you’d find yourself in a better venue if your club was really all that. Not in a suburban strip mall.

Your location and acts keep getting more boring as the time goes on. At least the Royals games attracts young and attractive people! It is 100 times for fun going to a game than going to your dim dive bar in Overland Park. You really should drop your stones and focus on actually making your venue more entertaining (and not listing the names of people who haven’t played at your current location).

        • CG says:

Hey moron all those people played there and 100’s more you are a hater so no talking to you…our club is in a great spot. The only one boring is you..not much smack little guy…try coming to my podcast and trading with me on Wednesday nite..no … coward..I know the drill..easy to cowardly attack a KC Icon like Stanfords and we are…uh who did I name that wasn’t there, genius? Name one. Of course you can’t you are a troll.

          • TruthCheck says:

None of those people have played at your current club in the strip mall that shares a parking lot with Price Chopper and Radio Shack.

It is just as easy to attack the Royals and the Chiefs as it is to attack your comedy club. Anyone can do it. And all 3 haven’t done anything that great since the 90’s. Although the Royals may do something awesome this year.

      • Jess says:

So I guess everyone in that list has a Shoe commercial right? That is the only mark of a true star.

GLAZE…you sound like a grandpa old man.
    stop!
    move on. admit your mistakes.
you have a “real chef”…wow so does kfc and mcdonalds!
it’s okay….you had to eat crow over the season…now take your
    beating and move on.
    admit it…you were wrong.
and move on…its okay to admit you were wrong really bad!!!!!!!
