Glazer: It’s Gonna to be a Really Long Chiefs Season

Tyler Bray The Chiefs lone bright spot

Some of us watched the Kansas City Chiefs last preseason game last night…

And just like the other three Chiefs preseason games, the team stunk up the field. There’s precious little to brag about with this final, horrid example of what’s to come for our boys in red for the 2014 season. Clearly they’re one of the NFL’s worst teams.

And nobody who knows football will argue that anymore. Not now, anyway.

The Chiefs have shown nothing, zip. It’s a major step backward from last year’s unimpressive season end. Yep, another bad year for our Chiefs, coming right up.

The two most interesting two things that came out of yesterday’s game:

Owner Clark Hunt‘s interview before the first half ended with his team looking gawdawful. Clark said he was :happy with the team’s progress.” That head coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey were building on last year’s success and will go deeper in this year’s playoffs.

Uh, maybe if they buy tickets.

My favorite line: “Don’t forget we have a full weekend of plans for RED FRIDAY next week the kickoff to the 2014 season.”

joe_montana_5-1What a joke.

Hunt was really excited about this year’s pep rally going down for RED FRIDAY at Union Station.

I’m sure there’ll  be hundreds of fans there to celebrate God knows what – a 4 and 12 season maybe?

With no stars other than Jamaal Charles and maybe Alex Smith, if they show up. Maybe we can bring back Carl Peterson‘s petting zoo with clown face painting for the kiddies.

They’ll need to because there will  be very little to get excited football-wise and nothing to cheer about.

This season is toast already.

I remember the real RED FIRDAYS and the OUTLAW RED FRIDAYS that Bill Nigro and I oversaw for the Chiefs in Westport from 1993-1998. Back when the Chiefs were real contenders, with names like Joe Montana, Marcus Allen, Derrick Thomas and Neil Smith. We drew seven to 15 thousand fans at those events. Fun days long ago and now all but forgotten. Too bad.

0(1)The Chiefs were a good team back then, 20 years ago.

And not to get ahead of myself, but next year will likely be another bad one for the Chiefs and the last for Reid and Dorsey.

Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton will get the axe after this season. Someone has to take the fall.

One possible bright note:

Second year quarterback Tyler Bray looked like he might be a good one. He beats out former MU quarterback Chase Daniels who the Chiefs likely will trade or cut next week. Don’t worry Mizzou fans, Chase will land on his feet with likely a better team and maybe even a chance to start somewhere. The Rams need a quarterback.

Elvis has left the building

Elvis has left the building

So how long has it been since KC had a good NFL squad?

Try 1997 when Elvis Grbac was the QB,

Wow, that’s close to 20 years.

How’s my under 8 1/2 wins for the season look now? A lock? I think so.

Almost forgot, the Pack trounced the Chiefs 34-14.

8 wins could get them into the playoffs.
same old winey old sounding repetitive boring story before the season
starts that glaze always delivers…until he has to eat crow.
this year we’re going to get the real numbers…not the fuzzy math
    he uses….win or lose.
you said nothing differnet today than they other 300 articles you’ve
written about the chiefs. this same monologue came up in 2013 before the
    season.
    blah blah blah blah blah…..
    your friend harley

hahahahahaha 8 wins against the rest of our division? Only if Peyton and Rivers have season ending knee injuries LMAO and no this isn’t me wishing that on them…hey maybe next year but it’s gonna be a LONG LONG LONG SEASON CHIEFS FANS #proudbrickowner@arrowhead

  2. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Not a Chiefs fan, but I used to attend those Red Friday’s down in Westport every single year. They were can’t miss events, and a total blast. Hard to believe it’s been that long!

  3. Lance The Intern says:

How can you expect anyone to take you seriously when you can’t even get the names of the players correct?

  4. Lance The Intern says:

Red Firdays? Why were you celebrating trees that are native to the mountains of southwest Oregon and California?

    • CG says:

Lance my friend you have to stop. Leave the funny to the pros, and what name was wrong? Did I mess ONE up, sorry. Taken seriously Lance, lets see if readers had to take my NFL bet pick or yours whom would roll with? I think me, at plus 70 % over 3 years of postings, nobody in KC posts that many bet picks or wins that many, a fact.

Hey I do pick wrong sometimes, we all do. The Chiefs are not a wrong pick at under 8 1/2 it is a lock bet. I like the Packers big at over 8 1/2…Eagles look very good to me as a dark horse NFL title winner…but like most its Pats/Broncos and Packers/Seahawks/Niners/ and yes add in Eagles for NFC title contenders and AFC title contenders. Big losers will be Panthers and Chiefs from last years post season teams…

    • the dude says:

Man, them Red Firdays were the best. We would all dance around the trees naked and hug them Red Firs until their damn bark would fall off.

DANIEL was there too, even if Glazer could never spell or pronounce his damn name correctly. But his English translator wasn’t there to read it loud and slowly so he could understand. Those ESL classes never quite stuck with Glazer…

  5. Kerouac says:

I had thought the Chiefs might win 4 games ‘if’ they lost either Smith or Charles, and 7 wins tops if both managed to survive 2014; obviously, my generosity knew no bounds.

  6. Brandon Leftridge says:

“1993-1998… back when the Chiefs were real contenders.”

You’re basing this article off of the preseason, Craig. In the “glory years” you mentioned– 93-98– they were a RIP-ROARING 14-12 in the preseason.

I’m not saying that they’re going to be amazing this season– far from it, actually– but I think trumpeting their demise after four preseason games is sort of ridiculous.

    Just sayin’.

    • the dude says:

Carnac the Magnificent Jew thinks he can predict a whole season by meaningless preseason games just like he predicted the Royals this season.
I agree that the Chefs will not do well this season based on the lineups I have seen so far unless they can trade for a new O-line, QB and secondary before the first game.

    • CG says:

Not just based on poor preseason games. They have NO TALENT. Not O line, no receivers save Kelce, the worst secondary I’ve ever seen, maybe ever. Bad team, Lefty, very bad. A 4,5 win season is in the wind.

      • “And just like the other three Chiefs preseason games, the team stunk up the field. There’s precious little to brag about with this final, horrid example of what’s to come for our boys in red for the 2014 season. Clearly they’re one of the NFL’s worst teams.”

Craig, I agree. But again, everything you’re saying is based off of four meaningless game. Would you really be saying this if they went 4-0, or 3-1?

        • CG says:

Yes Lefty.YES. I have watched this mess for years. Their front office has been bad for too long. Drafting is key, they can’t draft to save their ‘ass’… haven’t for years. Sure they land a good player here and there, but not often. You have to fix the holes, they didn’t fix any I can see. NONE.

It takes a hero, a leader, Smith is close but not enough. The Royals found pitching, very good pitching. Their core group has failed, all of them so far, save maybe Perez and a solid Gordon. No hero in either thus far. The Chiefs core is much worse and now at end game. Not one of them is OUTSTANDING, save Charles. End of story.

I hate that this is kinda the same story every season, but it is Lefty. Be honest this team has competed in the post season for real since 1997 season. They haven’t. They got there a few times only to get jacked. Last year was b.s. and if you know football you know that. It’s how you finish…2-6…not good. They didn’t get one guy that I can see who really matters, the holes are everywhere. No way they compete.

          • CG says:

Good teams are looking for a ‘few good men’ so preseason wins don’t matter as much. The Chiefs are looking for entire team…so yeah it matters more. First string offense with Smith couldn’t score one touchdown. Not one. Yeah it matters. Boy did they try. Nothing.

  7. CG says:

P.S. So its Chase Daniel not Daniels, I see, boy am I stupid, huh. Right.
