Valentine: Feeling Like Einstein

Valeinstein

Original art by Mark Valentine

He could do the math for Astrophysics to explain how the universe works. But he could not get the same math to work on both.

He died searching for a Unified Field Theory. I’m no Einstein, but I feel the same frustration when I read about “Climate Change” (formerly known as Global Warming).

Al Gore said the ice caps would be melted by last year. There are many current stories about the melting ice caps. It must be true. But NASA says, “The retention of more sea ice in September 2013 has increased the overall thickness and volume of the ice pack compared to recent years. Antarctic sea ice remains significantly more extensive than average.”

My inner Einstein can’t make those two story lines merge.

There is a definite uptick in the Climate Change stories in the media this week. The President is talking about it in every speech. Overseas, the Secretary of State is issuing dire warnings to other countries. The most extreme case is the media citing a report that says “global warming will trigger more U.S. crimes including murders and rapes over the next century, with social costs estimated to run as high as $115 billion.”

Albert-Einstein-facts-Einstein-and-Non-Science-Subject

It was quite scientific and specific, “Between 2010 and 2099, climate change can be expected to cause an additional 22,000 murders, 180,000 cases of rape, 1.2 million aggravated assaults, 2.3 million simple assaults, 260,000 robberies, 1.3 million burglaries, 2.2 million cases of larceny and 580,000 cases of vehicle theft.”

I can’t be skeptical of these honest politicians backed by such precise numbers. Somebody might label me with a derogatory name that would be the opposite of Einstein.

So without taking sides, I think it might be safe to focus on how ideas are discussed.

Some say, “The debate is over. No more facts will be allowed in this discussion. It is settled.” The Einstein in me is pretty certain that is not good scientific procedure.

Bill_NyeQuestion everything.

Use the new tools that got invented yesterday and compare the data from the tools that were used last year.

Bill Nye, The Science Guy is a very persuasive proponent of Global Warming. His underlying irrefutable truth is that man puts a lot of carbon dioxide in the air and our population is growing rapidly.

I get that, but what kind of public policy does that dictate?

ic3eShall we remove a specific number of humans to adjust for the carbon? Shall we decide who gets to breed and who must be a genetic dead end? If we just rely on education, then the educated will have fewer babies and the uneducated will fill the void. All the Einsteins in our souls must know that this kind of Final Solution has been tried.

I can’t speak for The Right or The Left, but I think many feel the way I do; I want cleaner energy. I do not want more expensive energy. Don’t let my Inner Einstein die without finding our Unified Field Theory.

    +1

I love the “Art By Valentine”.

  2. The edit lost the idea that the math for Quantum Physics and the math for Astrophysics couldn’t be put in one basket by Einstein…hmm

  3. Stomper says:

That’s what happens, unfortunately when the writer is a couple of steps sharper than the editor.

    🙂

Mr Valentine, admin removes all the good stuff from my stories and sends it to Sutherland! That’s why he looks so good all the time and my stories seem to have been written by a douche nozzle!
On a side note, always a fan of your art! I dig that a lot.
On the topic of climate change, this will irritate my good friend Stomper, but he’s used to me.
My favorite read in High School was back by the best science there was; that’s why today we are frozen solid in the great ice age that hit a few years ago, just as the book predicted; we are all now dead. Thank God, we get a reprieve from KCC!
Also, we’ve all starved to death because of the great population explosion and not enough food to go around. That’s why I’m fat; self preservation. I wanted to live one week longer than Glazer and steal his hotties!
This is cyclic weather. Al Gore is wrong, they are all wrong, it’s changing patterns.
Luckily, Gore missed this one but can retire on his royalties from inventing the Internets.
    Global warming = lie.
Climate change = true, it changes all the time!
Alas, we can’t all be right all the time; that’s saved for Harley alone.

I do know one thing for sure, this planet is in a warming trend.
Global air and ocean temperatures are rising, there is no doubt about that.
The question you have to ask is human combustion of hydrocarbon fuels responsible for the majority of this rise? I think to be proper stewards of the planet and our biosphere we should try to limit the combustion of hydrocarbon fuels and attempt to develop renewable energy technologies for our own general good and leave oil for lubricating things you need lubricated.

It will cost more money in the beginning to develop the green technologies but with wider use it will get cheaper. That’s just a fact of life.

Think I’m pretty much with the dude on this one. I struggled mightily with my science classes during my educational career so far be it from me to argue with Bill Nye. I’ll buy in somewhat with the man-made effects of carbon dioxide. I also believe the argument for the natural cycles of the earth from Ice Age and back throughout the planet’s history. Lots of moving parts here. Heck, I’m pretty sure that Ted Cruz and Sam Brownback have something to do with this as well. 🙂

Sorry to disappoint, Paul. I’m working on being a “kindler and gentler” Stomper and I need to pick my spots carefully.

“Climate Change” (formerly known as Global Warming)

Global Warming (formerly known as Global Cooling in the 1970’s)

Too bad people don’t understand that climate goes through changes over centuries and that the weather changes daily.

boys….whatever is happening…what we as humans are doing is not only
making it worse…but making it move faster.
Wason a trip to Alaska 4 years ago on cruise….was lucky enough to meet
a man who studied all this stuff which I did not understand nor did I
feel I needed to know since the predictions were for 2100 and I’m nor my
    family won’t probably be around.
But he said what was actually happening and nothing can change it.
He showed where the ice was gone…he showed and spoke of the change
that was occurring. I basically tuned out becausev its not going to affect
me or my immediate family….2100……90 years from now.
then he hit me with a hammer…its moving faster than anyone imagined.
if you read…see whats happening in California…see whats happening in
the areas of the world that we depend on….the shores of the east are
    being torn apart….heat/cold/record temps…….the environment change that’s
affecting everything we eat and depend on……
folks…humans might not be thesole cause of whats happening…that’s for debate
…but therer no doubt that we are contributing to it.
we’d better be ready…because once it hits its too late.
If you went to 1000 of the best doctors in the country and they all told
you that you had cancer…would you tell them they were all wrong.
Would you tell them they’re full of sh*t and you’re not going to do anything
to fight it (slash and burn /chemo or radiation). None of you woul.d ..you’
d do the chemo and whatever was available. We’re there now.
we’d better wake up…it s coming faster than thought of.
and or course the mining cos/oil companies/corps etc. never give a rats
a$$ about the people…to them its all about money. Beware…its probably
    too late now anyway.
