In ‘2 GUNS,’ Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg go head to head in just over two hours of fast moving and explosive action.
A buddy-buddy adventure? Well sort of as we track these two operatives from competing government entities now forced on the run together.
The problem being neither knows that the other is an undercover agent.
Washington for the D.E.A. while Wahlberg is Navy Special Forces.
One thing’s for sure though, each is as distrusting of the other about as much as the bad guys they’ve got to take down.
Yeap, they rob a small town bank together and everything’s looking up—until it’s time to split the loot and their real identities begin to emerge.
You see, the real target here is a Mexican drug cartel and things aren’t working out as planned.
Making matters worse, the cartel’s king pin is in cahoots with C.I.A. operatives who are taking kickbacks.
Seems the only person they can count on is the other. And that’s debatable as well.
Ok, so the plot borders the ridiculous. But I didn’t care. The chemistry between Washington and Wahlberg is what drives this film.
Sure some of the violent scenes will make you squirm. But immediate follow-up lines like “…nice shirt. Yeah, J.C. Penney’s” keep things fun and from getting too serious for the movie’s own good.
I think you’ll like your night out with the R-rated ‘2 GUNS.’
I’m giving them a solid B-
