I know, as Hearne likes to lecture me, it’s the white man’s double standard…
But on Tuesday, HLN’s marginal talk show host Nancy Grace lit into George Zimmerman and is now being accused of racism herself.
Frankly, I could come up with 100 other things to accuse Grace of before I ever got around to racism, but I’ll leave that one alone. Grace is over the top angry, abhorrent, abrasive and acerbic on more grounds than I have time to contemplate right now.
She clearly thinks Zimmerman should have been sentenced to at least one death penalty, maybe two or three before she’d have been satisfied, but as we all know, that didn’t happen. There’s likely not a more vengeful, spiteful person on the planet than Grace, save one who I know personally who shall remain nameless.
Grace became enraged on her show at defense attorney Mark O’Mara’s demands for Zimmerman’s “freedom” in his closing arguments. Grace’s point; Trayvon Martin would remain at room temperature with no future chance at “freedom” while Zimmerman was very much “free”.
Grace said she found O’Mara’s statement demanding Zimmerman’s freedom, “at the very least a very poor choice of words.”
Her reaction, broadcast live on her horrible little excuse for a show, was to respond with, “Give Zimmerman back his life? He’s out on bond, driving through Taco Bell every night having a churro. You know, long story short, he’s got his life. Who’s going to give life back to Trayvon Martin?”

As soon as Grace’s mouth went into gear – without her brain engaged – the words made it to the airwaves. The result: a lot of viewers decided Grace’s words were far worse than O’Mara’s and are now calling her a racist for the language she used in reply to Zimmerman’s choice of drive through windows and late night cuisine.
However, your well-coiffed scribe is confused.
I’m not sure what Grace has really done here as there are obviously two translations.
First, Zimmerman clearly is half white, half Hispanic. So in light of that fact, how does this look? Is she saying he’s eating at Taco Bell because of his Hispanic half? Is half Hispanic enough to claim racism?
Is Grace using this in the same manner she would have after the OJ murder trial?
Would have said, “Give OJ his freedom? He’s out driving through Popeye’s Chicken and having watermelon! Who’s going to give Nicole Simpson her life back?”
Or is that fat pig Grace using the comment to make the point that Zimmerman looks like a big, fat pig? It appears he’s gained 50 pounds while waiting for his case to go to trial. Maybe all she was expressing was concerns over his total caloric intake and is looking out for his heart health?
After all, their Taco Bell’s Fiesta Salad is 780 calories and has 37 grams of fat. A salad with 37 grams of fat, who knew? The XXL Grilled Stuffed Burrito also has 37 grams of fat. You know why? Because all Mexican food menu items are comprised of the same six ingredients no matter what you order or where you order it.
Besides, Taco Bell doesn’t have traditional “churros,” they have Cinnamon Twists. And those babies will only set you back 170 calories and 26 carbs.
Regardless of what Grace meant, her Twitter account lit up with complaints ranging from, “Hi @nancygracehln, why are you racist toward Hispanic people?” to, Grace “was over the top w/ the Taco Bell and churro comments! OMG! That was crazy talk! Racist!”
I still contend there are a lot more serious problems in this case before we get to that freak show Grace.
A jury of six women acquitted Zimmerman of murder, believing his argument that he acted in self-defense. Six women, some gun owners, some not. Regardless of the fact, this was the best jury pool both sides could agree to – hardly a “jury of his peers” – but it worked out OK for him anyway.
NBC doctored the story from day one.
Like the murder was a rigged crash test of a rolling fire bomb waiting to crash a GM C/K pickup truck. They edited the 911 calls to make it seem Zimmerman had called the police to report a person who was suspicious because he was black and because he’s wearing a hoodie.
Racism is a problem in this country no doubt.
You’d be an idiot to deny that. But if Paula Deen loses her show over the “N” word, where do we draw the line? Should Grace now step down? Sweet Baby Jesus, I sure hope so, racist or not.

It’s funny watching everyone try to talk about race – and totally screw it up. For example Paul says Zimmerman is ‘half white/half Hispanic’, but Hispanic isn’t a racial category it’s a name made up to appease race hustlers in the US. You can be 100% white and Hispanic or 100% black and Hispanic, the only prerequisite is some kind of relation to Spain or former Spanish colonies. Zimmerman is a pardo aka mixed.
Race and ethnicity are often used interchangeably which as you are saying, is technically incorrect. Keep in mind, however, that a large segment of the Hispanic population in the western hemisphere have Native American blood in them, which are of a different race than Caucasian.
That’s true but only reinforces my point. In so-called Hispanic countries they use terms like mestizo, pardo, etc., plus your normal white and black, to indicate race. Calling someone half white half Hispanic is a not useful because Hispanic doesn’t necessarily imply indigenous ancestry: it would be more correct to call them a white Hispanic which is what the US media did to much criticism. (Although Zimmerman isn’t that either he’s a brown Hispanic. A white Hispanic would be someone like Tom Tancredo, Marci Rubio or Bill Richardson: if you saw them walking down the street you would think they’re a normal white dude.)

Nance could have said worse. For example, if she had said Zimmerman went through the Taco Bell drive thru disguised as a Sherpa astride a llama, or alpaca, or whatever Peruvians ride on all of those mountain paths. Hell I feel racist just typing it. It’s not that she said something quasi racist so much as it’s that she seems to relish the most vile crimes. Her mouth says she is repulsed, but that look in her eye says she’s getting worked up. Her fan base is made up of other crime groupies, like the whack jobs that camped out on the courthouse lawn every day of the Casey Anthony trial. I don’t understand how she has been on the air for so long. Then again, if Al Sharpton can get paid to sling his special brand of horseshit I guess anyone can.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about N. Grace. Vile and angry little woman whom I cannot tolerate. Sporadic channel hopping landing on her show is like trying to swallow spoiled milk or futilely putting effort in holding back an inevitable vomiting session from sickness or food poisoning… Or in her case, bitter, hateful, brain dead banter.
