With the Buzz Beach Ball out of the way, all eyes turn to the second coming of the locally-produced music fest known as Kanrocksas…
Beach Ball’s pending move to September clears the way for Kanrocksas to go down hassle free in terms of getting local alternative rock radio station The Buzz to accept its promotional ads for the June 28/29 fest at Kansas Speedway.
Now if Kanrocksas can just come up with acts attendees are willing to shell out $175 to $200 per person to see.
“Kanrocksas is really up against it,” says one area entertainment bigwig. “They’re really struggling. It’s a disaster.”
That may be a bit of an overstatement but time is beginning to run short.
To date Kanrocksas has announced just three acts, Kendrick Lamar, The Avett Brothers and DJ Tiesto.
In addition to that KC Confidential has reported that according to sources the Grammy winning band Fun and MGMT are also slated to perform.
Not a bad beginning but…
“Kanrocksas says it’s trying to be frugal – they promised they wouldn’t spend $2 million on Eminem again – but when you go from $2 million to $200,000…They have to announce some bands soon and if they don’t have two arena acts like Eminem and Muse, they’re in trouble. And they set themselves up for this.
“The big, big thing is, they have Kendrick Lamar, Tiesto and The Avetts and they all play the Uptown. But those are three artists whose musical styles don’t intersect at all and they need to have more pieces that fit together to pull off a festival of this magnitude.”
Which brings us to Kanrocksas website which now says, “Full Lineup Coming Soon.”
This year’s Coachella fest recently announced a lineup that includes the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lou Reed, Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs and New Order.
And Bonnaroo plans to announce its 2013 roster at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
