Hearne: Desperately Seeking a Mizzou Bar in KU Land

Missouri v KansasFor some of you the question I’m about to ask will confirm your suspicions as to the number of brain cells I’m in possession of…

As in, not very many.Aanyway here goes.

I’m looking for a bar or tavern in Lawrence, Kansas – home of the almighty Kansas Jayhawk basketball team – that doubles as a watering hole for fans of the Mizzou Tigers.

Not necessarily an MU-themed bar, I’ve been around long enough to know better. But surely there’s a public place where MU fans gather at to catch Missouri football and basketball games on television. Surely.

In Kansas City – an unadulterated love nest for KU, MU and K-State fans alike – there are hideaways scattered about town where lowly Iowa State, Notre Dame and fans of other colleges go to watch their teams.

02-Truman-fans-photographIt’s a known fact.

However to date, I’ve yet to find a single soul in Lawrence who thinks that possibility even remotely exists or that I’m not crazy for even asking.

See, this is a town that eats, sleeps and drinks Jayhawks.

Nothing is more sacred here – nothing – and I’m going to go out on a limb and say that includes churches. In my humble opinion, of course.

And there’s practically nothing in Lawrence – people, places or things – that isn’t festooned with some sort of Jayhawk frippery. I haven’t seen this level of universal, blind public adoration since Jim Jones got all those people to drink cyanide-lace grape kool-aid.

It’s uncanny.

So quite naturally pretty much everybody I’ve asked looks at me like I’m nuts. And they may have a point.

But I’m still looking, because Missouri Tiger fans are people too.

They deserve to – and they must exist – somewhere in the burg of nearly 100,000 Kansans. And odds are they slither out of their man caves from time to time, go to a bar and try to watch Mizzou on television.

I mean, it’s not like they’re lepers.

The question being, does anyplace here allow them to?where_are_they_now

Little help?

Are you really as stupid as this story makes you look?

  2. zak says:

I thought you went to Arizona?

  3. Hearne says:

I did go to Arizona. But I’m looking for a bar that MU fans go to watch games in Lawrence.

And btw, I think I already Answered you question, super d

It is like trying to find intelligence in Retardland (no offense meant to retards).

Perhaps The Outhouse would be an appropriate venue.

No, but they ARE like Harley.

The place to find k state girls in lawrence is the outhouse….

  8. chuck says:

    April fools??

Are you hanging around with Charlie Sheen?

Hey, right after you open the bar, bet the entire BC Christopher fortune on the nose, for the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl next year.

If nothing else, some VERY funny stories should originate out of a Missouri Tiger Bar in Lawrence.

Just buy a couple hundred thousand dollars in Power Ball tickets.

A lot less work and a lot better odds.

Hey, there’s a method to my madness. I’m not looking for a place for me to hang, I’m just trying to see if there’s a place, go there, talk to the Tigers and get a story.

what is the short man syndrome? According to relevant descriptions and
analysis of the people who suffer from this problem….

“Napoleon complex is an informal term describing an alleged type of psychological phenomenon which is said to exist in persons, usually men, of short stature. It is characterized by overly-aggressive or domineering social behavior, and carries the implication that such behavior is compensatory for the subjects’ stature.”
Its also called the “short man” syndrome.
These people have a serious problem with dealing with others because of
their own lack of personal esteem because of their height.
They try to make excuses for their lack of success in life.
    Among successful people
    they feel very very uncomfortable.
Their failure to stand out in life forces them to make excuses for their
own lives. Often their overly aggressive behavior plays out in other
    parts of their lives.
In other words…as sigmond freud would say…”short people with
    short stories and big insecurities.
Hmmm….as artie would say VERRRRRYYYYY INTERRRRESSSSTINGGGG!hahahaha…..or as I would say…VERRRRY FUNNNNYYYYY!
By the way…I’m 5’11” and in tip top shape!!!!! have a great super bowl sunday!

  10. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Hey Hearne, perhaps you can also go looking for where Jayhawkers watch the games in Columbia. Even better, why don’t you travel up to Ann Arbor MI, and see where all the Ohio State fans are at. Perhaps wander on down to Norman OK, and go looking for Texas fans. Sheezus, there are fewer reasons by the day to read this site.

HC: If those are the kin d of stories you’re looking for, I can see your point. But Lawrence is a suburb of Kansas City and home to the most Kansas alums. Nobody here really cares much what’s going on in Columbia, Ann Arbor and Norman.

I think an M.U. oriented bar in Lawrence would do about as well as selling stickpins in a nudist camp.

    • admin says:

      Well, I’m not giving up…yet.

At the very least, I’ve got a hunch some chain place like Buffalo Wild Wings probably turns on the MU games so the lowly Tigers can watch their team and have a couple.

      We’ll see.

Remember, MU bar The Black & Gold in KC in looking for a place to light in Lawrence for the 150th anniversary of Quantrill’s raid later this year.

Fucking lame to not post comments…. too bad… for you. It stifles your thing here.
