Last week it was announced that three Sportos – Graham Zusi, Matt Besler, and newcomer Benny Feilhaber – have been selected to the US Men’s National Team January camp in California.
That’s more than any other MLS club, and a good sign for Feilhaber, who seemed to be a bit out of favor lately with the national squad.
“This is absolutely a huge opportunity, and we’re looking forward to working with them,” said USMNT boss Jurgen Klinsmann. “We are getting ready for the friendly against Canada, and also the big World Cup qualifier in Honduras, so these are going to be an important few weeks of preparation.”
Perhaps this will be the camp where Besler, 2012 MLS Defender of the Year, solidifies his position on the squad. Remember, he was chosen last year for the first time when the US beat Mexico for the first time ever in Mexico City, but he never got on the field.
For Zusi – who has recently been training with EPL side West Ham United – this opportunity represents a chance to really solidify himself in the US midfield after showing very well in the couple matches he appeared in last year for the Yanks.
As an added bonus, both Zusi and Besler can get comfortable with Feilhaber prior to the MLS pre-season, who figures to start in the midfield for Sporting in 2013.
