Glazer: Chiefs Give Sneak Preview of How Bad This year’s Team Is

As your humble scribe and friend, I told you just the other day the Chiefs are not very good…

That they would be lucky to win 6 games this season. Last night they started by showing off just how bad a team can be. Yes, it’s pre-season, but it’s ALWAYS PRE-SEASON for this failing franchise. They couldn’t have looked worse. NOTHING looked decent. Nothing. Defense rated an F-minus – they couldn’t even stop the Tampa number two or three quarterbacks from picking up long third down throws. Our offense well, it was not at Arrowhead. As I write this the game is still stinking up my screen. I am doing the Chong show, but took time out to watch this "mess’ we call the Chiefs.

Let’s see what else.

Our quarterback, who clearly needs no warm up, Matt THE FRANCHISE Cassel, threw once for zero yards.  Nice workout. We had one run for about 20 yards by Thomas Jones, our big and only good offensive play so far. Then he fumbled to Tampa. Oh yeah, Tampa scored on a safety later as well. Lets see the score is now 22 Tampa, 0 for the doormat Chiefs.

Am I being mean? Is it too early? No and No.

This is a poorly coached ball-club. They will struggle to find any wins – any. Anf the Chiefs front office knows this.

In the meantime, Detroit who couldn’t win a game two years ago, found a quarterback and a dominant defender and built a winner. They’ll make the playoffs this year. Tampa Bay is a Super Bowl contender behind Josh Freeman, a two year starter at quarterback from K-State.

The Chiefs had a phony division title last year and this year the real team will show up… near last.

Am I being a downer? Yes. The Chiefs deserve it for raising our hopes. This continues to be a bad team with a couple good players. I wish it were different, I really do. Like you, I hate finding another team to pull for outside our own. It’s painful but necessary in order to survive the horror of yet another lost season.

Sorry, it’s just true.

NO, I AM NOT WAITING TO CRAP ON THESE GUYS.

They just ain’t got it! And I’m being generous with 6 or 7 wins.

Hey, Chuck, can I just throw in the towel now?
So, Chuck, I know I agreed to bet you $1 a game during the real season. And I plan to use my Color Theory of the Jerseys to pick the winner. For example, not even counting that the Chiefs never have a winning pre-season, and in fact, went 0-4 last year, had I been betting last night, Tampa Bay’s black pants with red would obviously have been stronger than the Chiefs outfits.

But this game was so disgusting it was hard to watch. I ended up vacuuming during OUR offensive plays. And at least, Matt Cassel didn’t sustain an injury.

So, could I just pay you the $16 now–and go get another hobby for those 14 Sundays and 2 Mondays? Hell, I’d rather go watch The Help 16 more times than watch the Chiefs this season. Or I could go, once again to the inner city, and tutor the youth in how to “matriculate”. (Hats off to that Hank Stram line of all time, “matriculate your way down the field, boys…!”

You win, Chuck. Thanks, Glazer for coaching me on this.

  2. Henry The Sports Czar says:

Don’t Ever Say Glazer Doesn’t Know Football
He called it. That may have been the worst showing in preseason of a home team, ever. Glaze your wrong on one thing, Matt threw no passes, why should he, he’s ready! The Chiefs could easily be 3-13. Ugly game, ugly team. Ugly.

  3. Rick says:

    I DREADED THIS!!!
Is this column by Hearne or Glazer? Or are they one in the same?

As I watched this game last night I knew I was going to dread the column by Glaze Man. The only thing he didn’t do that I expected was altering his prediction to a win less season or 2-14. So thanks for not being completely predictable.

FYI…..last year they lost ALL four preseason games and went 10-6. Its ok. You can step off the ledge now.

  4. Rick says:

    Opps
I see u DID change ur prediction. Didn’t you say 7-9?? Now we r a 6 win team? If they lose the next pre season game will you say only 5 wins. Let me go back and read what u wrote. Seems to be a moving target.

  5. Rick says:

    BUSTED
Yeah sure enough. The Glaze Man said 7-9. Of course he also stated he liked Haley. Now he says the team is poorly coached. Glaze I think your dad isn’t the only one that should get into politics. Tell u what Bro. Let’s make it 3 years in a row that you are wrong and I’m right.. You STICK with your most RECENT prediction of 6 wins and I’ll take that bet.

By the way I agree with you. They looked horrible and stunk the place up.

  6. chuck says:

    Glaze–ya gotta be shittin me!!
Hammered on my fuckin ass (Ask Tracy), I am beggin ya, to be more realistic.

    3 wins????

    WTF??

Actually, yesterday, Vegas had the Chiefs at 7.5

Glaze— I fuckin luv ya, and I am bringin u the money if you want it. You can hold it, I totally trust ya. $1,000.00 they go over 7.5 🙂

    🙂

  7. harley says:

Horrible story….but harley is going to be right again….
was at the cheifs game….they came out to run one series with the starters. Haley was smart…they
    did not want any injuries.
Tampa took an opposite approach and decided to run all their starters thru the second quarter.
Haley is smart….he knows some of his guys weren’t ready…..but we have to wait and see
what happens to the team….with only 9 practices he had the option to not play starters.
I think you’re taking the easy way out. I fy ou ask 100 chiefs fans the number of wins for this
season 99 will say 6/7/8…so you’re not out on a limb really wiith this prediction.
HOWEVER….NOONE HERE HAS SAID A WORD ABOUT TEXAS A AND M BOLTING THE BIG
12…NO STORIES HERE…..BUT THIS COULD REALLY MEAN THE BREAKUP OF THE BIG

12….REMEMBER…I PREDICTED THAT MISSOURI WAS GOING TO LEAVE THE BIG 12.
ALTHOUGH RIGHT NOW IT S PROBABLY NOT A SOLID MOVE AS IT WAS LAST YEAR….
MU MAY BE DOING MORE COVERT WORK TO LEAVE NOW THAN THEY DID A YEAR AGO.
MISSOURI WANTS OUT…MAYBE NOT TO THE SEC WHICH REALLY DOESN’T HELP THEM
BUT THE BIG 10. I CONTINUE TO SAY MU IS GOING SOMEWHERE SOON….WATCH FOR IT TO
HAPPEN….THE BIG 10 HAS TO MAKE ANOTHER MOVE SOON OR THEY WILL LOSE OUT.
LOOK FOR MU TO MAKE ANOTHER SHOT AT MOVING TO THE BIG 10……I STILL BELIEVE
MU IS STARTING TO PACK THEIR BAGS……BECAUSE ONCE ANOTHER TEAM LEAVES THE
BIG 12 (ESPECIALLY IF OU AND OSU LEAVE) ITS ALL OVER.
TEXAS WILL BE STUCK WITH A NETWORK THAT GOES NO WHERE…BECAUSE ALL THE
OTHER MAJOR LEAGUES SAY YOU CAN’T HAVE YOUR OWN TV NETWORK……
THIS WILL GET REALL INTERESTING THIS NEXT WEEK…..I WILL BE RIGHT AGAIN!

  8. Orphan of the Road says:

Thousands injured as fans jump off the bandwagon
Ever since the Chiefs stopped having The Grocery Bowl as their first preseason game I have struggled watching practice games. And now Tracy has almost bet on a preseason football game. OH THE HUMANITY!!!!

Most of the starters never were in the game. One very bad series for Matt and then off to the next experimental group of players.

Tracy’s color-scheme for betting is a favorite with many when it come to betting. I used to have a scheme where I compared which team had the most Big 8 players. They tended to be the winner when the games were toss ups. No science to it but it won me a number of parlay tix wins.

Now Craig’s hyperventilating into a bag, smartman has put himself into a trance trying to read the tea leaves about the Big How Many Teams future.

And Chuck comes riding to the rescue like Kid Shaleen freeing Cat from the noose around her neck. Shooting and shouting, It’s a practice game you stupid shits.

Bring back The Grocery Bowl, rookies vs rookies, all seats $2. I still remember Sandy Stevens (sp) standing in the huddle, miked up and trying three times to cross the goal line. A penalty gives them another set of downs and Sandy tells the team, “Let’s get this muther ferker across the goalline, OK. Then on KMBC radio comes the announcer say, due to technical difficulties we have lost the audio feed from the QB…

  9. Craig Glazer says:

    Didn’t Chage My Thoughts
I was just pointing out how crappy the Chiefs are. Not changing my position, which was they stink from the start. My saying a number, well I started with 6 or 7 wins, and thats being kind now. Vegas dropped them from 8 1/2 to 71/2 that too will go lower likely with a couple more killer loses. See the Chiefs are a team that was not taken seriously last year. Not as a real good playoff team. So eyes are on them more than say a good team like New England. We expect to see little of Tom Brady or Aaron Rogers. Their teams may lose a preseason game but likely not 25-0 or 35-7, see they know what they have. We don’t.

So I was accurate, poor team trying to find answers. Wins will be rare for this Chiefs ball club. Sorry.

  10. PB says:

    Poorly Coached?
I’m not sold on Haley taking this team forward to another level and he does have his gameday issues but to call one of the least penalized/fewest turnover teams in the NFL last season “poorly coached”, dsplays a certain amount of ignorance to what it takes to prepare an NFL football team. And the Lions (?!!!) who have done absolutely NOTHING yet had to endure years of ineptitude to draft that QB who can’t even stay on the field. I’m guessing Glazer’s head and most Chiefs fans heads would have exploded after a winless season as they can barely seem to handle to prospects of perhaps a backwards season after last year’s DIVISION TITLE. Cue the soft schedule responses now.

  11. Rick says:

    WHAT U R SAYING IS
So basically what u r saying is “No Rick I won’t take that bet.” I understand. Why be a three time loser when u instead can just make some general statements.

  12. BS_Nerdlaw says:

You must have been watching the game closely…..
First off, Thomas Jones did NOT fumble the football….RB Jackie Battle, who is probably listed 4th on the depth chart is the one who did that. Jamaal Charles didn’t touch the football, either.

Second, Matt Cassell did NOT throw a single pass in the game. He did not throw once for zero yards. He threw zero times for zero yards. So because he handed off three times on 3 plays, and the RB fumbled…our QB is gonna have an awful year?

Third, hardly ANY of our 1st string starters played a single down…which includes Dorsey, D. Johnson, Tamba, Kelly Gregg, etc. Most of the time, the back-ups for the back-ups were the ones playing the majority of this game.

Nick Wright said it best today….The best indication that Todd Haley was treating this as a “PRACTICE” and not a game was when the VERY FIRST play of the game was an inside hand-off to a 7th round running back from Yale (Bannon).

This game was simply an evaluation of players that they needed game film on, so they can figure out where to go from here in the future weeks. The established players have not had enough time to practice to get in game condition…and in the shape they need to avoid injury in game situations. If they play this poorly in the next two pre-season games, MAYBE we can be a little concerned…but thankfully, the games don’t count until September 11th. Let’s calm down a little. They still have almost a month to come together as a team.

  13. Rick says:

    THANK YOU BS
    for a moment of sanity.

  14. Craig Glazer says:

Yes I Caught Those Two Mistakes
I saw that Matt didn’t throw any passes not one that missed, just threw none. And yes that it wasn’t the fumble by Jones that mattered, though he did fumble. I called Hearne to change it, he didn’t. It happens. My fault. However the tone of the story is correct, they looked terrible and the “practice” excuse is bull. The other good teams were practicing as well. They looked much better than we did.
