Today: The Top 10 Kansas City Radio Afternoon Drive Shows for July

The radio ratings war is played on many fronts…

The two most important; morning and afternoon drive. The weekday periods when tens of thousands of Kansas Citians are in their cars traveling to and from work with nothing much better to do than listen to the radio. I told you yesterday that KCFX’s Slacker won the morning drive for men 25-54 and that The Rock’s Johnny Dare and Mix 93.3’s Rocket & Teresa were tops in women 25-54.

Now let’s take a look at how the afternoon drive – 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. stacked up in men 25 to 54…

There’s no shortage of heavy hitters past and present here. The Buzz’s Lazlo, WHB’s Kevin Kietzman, KCFX’s Skid Roadie, Q104’s TJ McEntire, 610 Sports up-and-comer Nick Wright and KMBZ news talkers Mike Shanin & Scott Parks.

And the King of the Beasts is…Skid Roadie.

Now the Top 10.

  1. KCFX FM with a 12.7 share
  2. The Rock with a 11.3 share
  3. WHB with a 6.9 share
  4. The Buzz with a 6.2 share
  5. 610 Sports with a 5.3 share
  6. Q104 FM with a 4.2 share
  7. Funny 102.5 FM with a 3.8 share
  8. KMBZ AM & FM with a 3.6 share
  9. KCMO FM with a 3.5 share
  10. The Point with a 3.3 share

  1. Craig Glazer says:

So You Are Saying Skid Has More Listeners Than Dare?
Not a chance, Dare more than doubles his listeners. At worst. Thats not to say Skid isn’t poplular but not at that level no way. Theres no new news for 101, its just older listeners moving over for a moment at best.

These “counting systems” are not real. They are based on a small universe of listeners. I stil think they some merit but not as much as is being given credit. Slacker and Skid have nothing new to offer, and in the past were good and had some following, but never in recent years Dare like. That would be like saying Mankow is up with Stern. It’s just not real.

  2. Ryan says:

    Morning Drive?
Where is the post with the Morning Drive numbers that you say you told us about yesterday?

Or am I just blind and missing something?

  3. Hearne Christopher says:

    This is AFTERNOON DRIVE, Craig.

    Dare is in MORNING DRIVE.

  4. Hearne Christopher says:

    No, you got me!

Had it written and ready to post but held off for a quick numbers check. Have it up for you in 5 minutes.

  5. Hearne says:

    No captions but….
How wasted does that young Skid Roadie look in the photo King of Heavy Metal Jim Kilroy took at the Lone Star (probably 20 years ago)?

  6. Rick says:

    SHOCKER
Obviously the shocker is Funny 102.5. Who would of thunk it????

  7. Hearne Christopher says:

Funny is slipping, but still pretty strong. My bet is it will continue to slip.

  8. Rick says:

    I AGREE
I think u r right because u can only listen to the same bits so many times. They need to expand their vision. Put Glazer on. Interview local comics. Review comedy movies.
