Sounds Good: ACBs Living Large @ LIVESTRONG & Booty Shakin’ w/ R. Kelly @ Sprint

I know what you’re thinking: Matt, how do you have such good taste in music, but otherwise make highly questionable decisions in all other areas of your life?

Well, I’m glad you asked.  That’s a very good question.

First off, I like Billy Joel but not Elton John.

Second I miss the old KCC, you know, the squirrel themed one.  (Side note: I can’t give particulars right now, but I’m doing what I can to keep the squirrel related content flowing, so stay tuned.)

Third, I challenge you right now to an eating contest of your choice.  Nothing gross, though. So there you have it…

Friday, June 17th

The ACBs at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park

If you’ve ever read any of my other stuff here on KCC, then you know I am a soccer fan, and you know that I am an ACBs fan.  Well, it’s all coming together tonight out at the greatest soccer stadium ever built (sick of the hyperbole yet?  Seriously, though, it’s pretty badass).

The ACBs are straight-up indie rock, with clean vocals and buzzing guitars.  But don’t pigeon hole these guys.  In a recent interview, lead singer Konnor Ervin had this to say of the band’s sound:

“It’s hard to say what we sound like. We know we’re a rock band but we’re really poppy. I don’t know, I think we sort of sound a little like Teenage Fanclub or something like that. Pretty mellow, but I think our live shows are a little more upbeat. I like recording mellow songs, but when I’m actually playing, I like to get people dancing and stuff. We have a lot of dancey pop stuff we do live, more from our last couple albums. I wouldn’t really know how to describe it. Harmless, dancey songs.”

OK, so he didn’t exactly sell it. But trust me, these guys are good.

Get there early tonight because the band goes on around 6:00 on the Sprint Plaza, which is located on the west side of the stadium.  The soccer game starts at 7:30.

R. Kelly at the Sprint Center

Is it just me, or is it impossible not to think of Dave Chappelle and peeing on people whenever R. Kelly is mentioned (“I want to pee in your food…”)?

Probably best known for his hit song, “I Believe I Can Fly” – as well as his multiple sex scandals over the years – R. Kelly is certainly not one to shy away from controversy.  Right after being accused on child pornography charges in 2007 he released the album, “Sex Planet.”

You can be sure that Saturday night there will plenty of booty shakin’, plenty of bump’n’grind, and probably some other stuff that I can’t really mention on this website.

Always is when the King of R & B comes to town.

The coppers will shake down the SC like they shake down bars in Westport before, during and after the R. Kelly concert.

They will rack a couple hundred folks for outstanding warrants, firearms possession and weed.

Mayor Sly will be there leading the damn shakedown.
