Jack Goes Confidential: ‘Green Lantern’ Delivers Fun, Summer, 3-D Popcorn Ride!

Hollywood’s going green this weekend…

By breathing new life into DC Comics’ good old GREEN LANTERN! The question is, whether Warner Brothers can elevate the film above its geeky fanboy base?

My hunch?

They” succeed, even though this comic book action adventure is squarly targeted to male teens and the early 20’s crowd. But a roadmap to the goings-on here would’ve helped many of us non-comic-book-reading, clueless watchdogs as the film and storyline is all over the place.

That said, wisely the filmmakers have kept the action light and breezy with lead Ryan Reynolds playing it glib while wisecracking his way through the intergalactic proceedings.

Reynolds plays Hal Jordan, a cocky ‘Top Gun’ like test pilot selected as the first human recruit for the mysterious Green Lantern Corps—elite protectors of the Universe. His super-human powers are instilled through a very special ring which is powered in conjunction with a certain green lantern.

Got that?

And it is Hal who now brings humanity to this universe saving brotherhood—especially when a new force known as Parallax threatens to destroy the world’s balance of power! All of which is set against some very impressive production values and special effects.

And this time out the 3-D is very well executed!

They’re not just throwing things at the camera here but giving the entire production— and universe— what 3-D should really be all about. And that’s depth perception!

So the 3-D upcharge is worth it in this case!

The well cast ring-slinging 101 cast also includes knockout Blake Lively, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins and Peter Sarsgaard as nerdy scientist Hector Hammond.

The is limited only by the wearer’s imagination—and the imagination here runs pretty wild!

So welcome to this two-hour long, summer, space soap opera. You’re in for quite a  buttered-popcorn ride!

    Fair enough disclaimer Jack.

I am 3 times as old as that demo, so I only like it 1/3 as much, and give it a -9 outta a possible 0.

    Your not makin enough money.

    Green. Thanks but no thanks
Critics are really bashing this one and reading between the lines sounds like you didn’t really buy into it much either. Think I’ll red box the green one.
