Today: Kansas Speedway Rock Festival Will Be a Lollapalooza; Primus, Girl Talk, Flaming Lips?

Seems everybody’s lips are sealed until 2 p.m. today…

Well, almost everybody’s lips. That regarding the queer-sounding music fest called the KanRocksas Music Festival. Talk of more than 20 acts August 5 and 6 at a local venue that some say could be Livestrong Park. Others the Kansas Speedway.

On a scale of 10, how big a deal is it?

"It’s a 12, dude," says one area entertainment exec.  "This is the biggest thing in Kansas City this summer!"

The lineup reportedly includes Primus, the Flaming Lips & Girl Talk.

Other possibilities in a 20-plus band lineup include the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters.

Reportedly, it’s a mad plan by a local millionaire who sold his company and wants to host a kickass concert. Bands traveling to and from the huge Lollapalooza fest in Chicago were targeted for the event.

"I mean, the guy’s subsidizing this way beyond belief," says one local promoter."But it’s the worst-named festival and logo ever! They want to draw 100,000 people a day to the Speedway but I just don’t think KC can produce 200,000 people. And the idea of having more than 50,000 rockers camping in one spot for two days is a scary prospect."

Stay tuned…

    Great scoop
But what’s the deal on the Foo Fighters and Chili Peppers?

  2. Hearne says:

I’ll have the answer to your question…
    Shortly. Very shortly.

  3. mike says:

    foo fighters arent coming
they are at lollapalooza the same weekend

  4. Psyched! says:

@ Mike – There are a handful of bands that are playing both festivals. That’s partly why they are having it that weekend. I still don’t think they’ll be one of the new announcements but that won’t be the reason.

  5. Hearne Christopher says:

So are many (most?) of the other bands. Check it.
