Today: Radio Ratings Shocker! Funny 102.5 Yuks its Way Towards Top

There’s really only one word to describe new Cumulus radio station Funny 102.5, Wow!

In a single month of existence, the 24/7 comedy station exploded onto the scene in the No. 7 slot – with a 4.7 share – for adults ages 25 to 54 during the prime listening hours of 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday .

To put that in persepctive, that’s nearly double News Radio KMBZ’s 2.7 share and 17th place finish.

Here are the March Top 10 ratings in the key adults 25-54 demo for Monday thru Friday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

1)  The Rock, 9.9 share

2)  The Buzz, 7.4 share

3)  KCFX, 7.1 share

4)  KBEQ, 5.9 share

5)  WHB, 5.5 share

6)  Mix 93.3, 5.3 share

7)  Funny 102.5, 4.7 share

8)  KCMO FM, 3.7 share

9)  KPRS, 3.6 share

10)  –drumroll, please– Christian station KLRX, 3.5 share

*******

AQgain, clearly the shocker of shockers was Funny 102.5 FM…

The question is, will those numbers stand the test of time after listeners have had a chance to familiarize themselves with the format?

"It’s the only 24/7 comedy station in the country on FM in a major market," says one radio observer. "I’ll tell you this, you may see a number of struggling FM stations around the country go to comedy if this holds up."

In men ages 25 to 54, Funny 102.5 FM’s numbers were even stronger.  It held a solid 5th place rank with a 5.9 share (again with 980 KMBZ well behind in 10th place with a 3.4 share).

Now for you bottom feeders, here are the 12 plus March rankings:

1)  KCFX, 6.3 share

2)  The Rock, 6.0 share

3)  KCMO FM, 6.0 share

4)  KBEQ, 5.3 share

5) (tie) KCHZ (The Vibe) and KRBZ (The Buzz), 5.2 share

7)  Mix 93.3, 5.2

8)  KPRS, 4.8 share

9) KFKF, 4.5 share

10) Funny 102.5, 4.1 share

    Repeating…
Well I love the station but when you listen all the time like I do it tends to get repetitive. If they want full time listeners they are going to have to get more material.

    RU EFFING SIRIUS
This is your big Friday story? HELLO! Honeymoon! Holy Shit! Remember one of the times you got married or one of your new pieces of “cooze”? Remember those first months? This station is gonna stiff like Joan Rivers face. Do a follow up in six months and a year.

    Whos on first
I also wonder about repeats. I dont even listen that often and I have heard repeats. How the fuck can a comedy station have re-fkn-peats? WTF? There is so much recorded comedy history you could / should go 10 years without a repeat. Maybe it is a license thing, or something?

  4. Hearne Christopher says:

That’s the very question I raised with station management. Even the XM and Sirius comedy channels tend to repeat if you are a frequent listener. And while hearing a really good song over and over may be a good thing, not sure how often people want to choke down the same joke.

  5. Hearne Christopher says:

The other wild card is not letting the comics use the F word and other language common with most of the best comics. That cuts out a lot of really good material and additional variety they could fold into the mix.

  6. Hearne Christopher says:

Again, by keeping it clean, they are leaving a ton of material – variety – on the table.

I just added your blog site to my blogroll, I pray you would give some thought to doing the same.

    Smartman strikes again
He is right. Check back in 6 months after they finally sell some commercials and then people start getting burned out on it. Besides… I have been listening to it for two weeks… funny… okay… Jeff Foxworthy again…. ooookayyyy… Hello Kietzman.
