OTC: Kobe’s Mouth Is His Problem, Why Make It Yours? / Big 12 Deal Good For KC

“I think it’s very easy for a straight white guy to say that words are (meaningless), slurs are no big deal. … You know, that’s a terrible lesson for kids to learn – that’s sticks and stone may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Words can hurt you so much more.”
Nick Wright, on Kobe Bryant being fined $100K for calling an NBA referee a faggot, 610 AM
GH: Count me among the straight white guys who don’t get it. Why should words be harmful? It is up to the recipient of a slur to determine whether or not they are going to be harmed or impugned by a verbal attack of another. Why would you grant your assailant this victory over you? Name calling is the one of the most overhyped and ridiculous practices that continues to breathe life because of oversensitive adults. Kobe was/is an idiot. Who the hell cares what he is yelling at a ref? Everybody needs to get over the color of their skin, their sexual preference, their god, yada, yada, yada — and the fact so many of us differ in many ways. We are not the same. Live with it.
“Sam (Mellinger’s) a great guy but something didn’t happen in his life. There’s something in his upbringing that doesn’t make any sense. … I’ve never read anything where somebody was so dead sure there was no other side to this (issue). This whole thing reeks of a detachment from reality. It’s a crazy, crazy read!”
Kevin Kietzman, on Mellinger’s KC Star column where he proposes to grant no-interest loans to college basketball players who are tempted to leave school early to declare for the NBA draft, 810 AM
GH: You can read Mellinger’s column by clicking here. Whether you agree with Sam or not, I found Kietzman’s comments wildly over the top. KK’s has deduced that there is something amiss in Sam’s “upbringing” because of his desire to float loans to college athletes? Mellinger’s job is to write a column that gets cussed and discussed. It appears to me his work on this one gets an A.
“We believe it’s about 90 million dollars over 13 years and it’s not for another year and a half.”
Kevin Kietzman, on the Big 12’s new TV deal with Fox Sports, 810 AM
GH: I wonder if this means Fox’s Jason Whitlock will now be doing college football TV work for Big 12 games? Love to see Pork Chop shivering back in Ames, Iowa for that clash between the Clones and Wildcats in late November.
“It appears the Big 12 gave up 13 years of negotiating power. Think about what the television rights were worth 13 years ago and what they could be 13 years from now. … I’m just curious as to what they had to give up. 13 years is a long, long time. For Missouri, for Kansas and for Kansas State, this is big problem potentially.”
Nick Wright, 810 AM
GH: Mizzou, KU and KSU have to be ecstatic. Last June these three were scrambling like homeless people in a thunderstorm. Any shelter was looking good to them. This contract at least gives them a home, a roof and three squares for the next decade and beyond.
“This deal may look bad in three years.”
Todd Leabo, 810 AM
GH: Money wise, maybe. But Beebe did what he could with what he had. I think you count this as a big win – especially for the three local schools and Iowa State.
“I can’t imagine signing a 13-year agreement for anything. This seems like an awfully long deal.”
Danny Clinkscale, 810 AM
GH: You can tell Clinckscale’s been married a couple of times.
“Dan Beebe had them hang up on me! I’ve never seen anything like that in my life! I just can’t believe they didn’t have the respect to ask, ‘Next question.’ They just moved right along!”
Nick Wright, who aired a tape of his second question to Beebe during the Big 12 presser where it appeared instead of answering Wright’s question, the teleconference moved on to the next question, 610 AM
GH: Nick just can’t get any respect. Beebe must not have read the Ink article.
“I still think they could lose 100 games.”
Frank Boal, who blames the Royals starting pitching for his pessimism despite their good start, 810 AM

“Let’s be honest, the Royals could get a lot better and still not win the division. They need some help with some teams backing up. … I think they are going to have a prolonged losing streak where their starting pitching is going to be awful. I’m not trying to take anything away from the Royals but do you guys not agree, does the league not look a little down?”
Kevin Kietzman, 810 AM
GH: While there are many Royals fans who are slow to buy into the Royals early-season success, KK is leading the parade. He ain’t buying it and he doesn’t mind pissing on them even when they win in Minnesota with Kyle Davies as their starter. Sometimes you just have to enjoy a team one game at a time. What’s coming may not be pretty but like your Saturday-night date, who cares what she looks like at 60?
“We’re playing so much better baseball than we were last year.”
Ned Yost, Royals Radio pregame
GH: I agree with Ned. While it may not last, I’m hoping the eyeliner and curves hold up through the summer.

    Thirteen years wasn’t a mistake
I only heard it this morning, but the new Big XII deal expires one year after the SEC’s current fifteen-year deal expires. We all know that the SEC deal is going to be the driver of every other deal to BCS leagues, so making it expire when it does is actually pretty smart. I’m not one who likes to give Dan Beebe or the Big XII any credit at all, but it seems like they got this one right.

Would Kietzman have preferred that the Big XII had its deal expire in ten years and try to be the standard-bearer? Because there’s no way this league, especially with Texas free to do its own thing in so many regards, is ever gonna be able to top what the SEC gets.

  2. Rainbow Man says:

    The Royals Gang
There is something on this Royals team we have not seen in two decades. They like each other. There is obvious chemistry with these players. They look like they are having a blast. Those types of teams win.

  3. smartman says:

    CON-TRACT
    Contracts aren’t worth the paper
they’re written on. I’m sure this deal has more loopholes than Glazers boilerplate pre-nup.

Nobody ever got killed from name calling. It’s not like Beaver Cleaver wound up mutilating a bunch of hookers. Look at all the people that call Nick Wright and KK douchebags. Doesn’t seem to hurt them.

$100K to Kobe is pocket change. If the NBA was serious about this it would have fined him a million. But what if the referee IS a faggot? What then? You gonna fine the guy for speaking truth to power?

The Old Roy-als are who we think they are. Anybody that thinks this team is gonna beat the Yanks, Rays or Red Sox, for the AL title in the next 100 years is biblically stupid.

Speaking of biblically stupid where does KK get off questioning Sam Mellinger’s upbringing? That’s too bizzare for me to comment on. Mellinger’s not the first person to have this idea or some variation of it. The article did what it was supposed to do, provoke thought. All KK makes me think about is changing the station.

    Greg
as someone that monitors and then quotes numerous radio personalities you should know that words do have meaning. You can’t just brush off a slur because people should “get over it.” What if Dirk dropped an N bomb on a black referee? Should he just “get over it”? Kobe is an ass and should be suspended.

  5. chuck says:

Up at the plate now, Greg Hall. Heres the pitch…
and WOW!!!! That ball is hit deep!! Its gone folks, bouncing down I 70 and Home Run for Greg Hall!!

” Why should words be harmful? It is up to the recipient of a slur to determine whether or not they are going to be harmed or impugned by a verbal attack of another. Why would you grant your assailant this victory over you? Name calling is the one of the most overhyped and ridiculous practices that continues to breathe life because of oversensitive adults.”

The quotidian, existential guilt, bred into white people in combination with the transgenerational entitlement bred into black people with regard to the word “N word” has now metastacised into fresh territory in the American vernacular. No doubt dictionaries, for white, black, gay and sundry religions will soon be available with rules for who can say what, where they can say it, and when. My guess, is that white folks will still be expected to maintain the virtue of Caesar’s Wife, while everyone else gets special indulgences by way of “Protected Status”.

These “No No” words are aquiring the status of intellectual property for chrissakes. Kobe calls a ref a “faggot” and a metaphorical flechette bomb goes off, seriously wounding and diminishing gay people all over therld. Quelle horreur!!!

    Gimme a fuckin break.

Even on PTI (An ESPN Sports talk show.) Kornheiser is apoplectic with his supercillious, simpering shit and end of the world scenarios based on, thats right, the word faggot. Shut the fuck up idiot!

The 4th estate is rampant with bandwagon phonies who pony up to the zeitgeist bar for free drinks paid off in guilt and stupidity. Hidebound and unwilling to think on thier own, they are wet by every rain, and blown by evey wind.

The unabridged American camera obscura, revealing all of our so called sins, would, I bet, make Kobe no more guilty than any other mutha fucka who gets outta bed.

Greg is right, these words, that only a selected few can use, arre not special. They are just words and the power of those words is metaphysically subjective.

Put the crime scene tape away, give Kobe his money back and go read Huck Finn.

  6. I is Chuck says:

    You’s funny …
Hi, I’m Chuck. I done used a bunch of big ole werds to shows how smart I is. And to prove my point that wurds don’t have no meenin’ no how.

    Makes sense to me.

  7. chuck says:

1:40:54 Go organize a Flash Mob
    Ya dumb Orc.

  8. harley says:

take the money….you know its coming
so the big 12 was smart….take the money…use every angle to make
more…even putting ads on uniforms like nascar….with cutbacks in
education the schools need every dime they can get….

  9. Cliffy says:

I was going to post something really smart ….
…. but I faggot what I was going to say.

  10. Carpet Bagger says:

    cliffy is a fucking faggot
you are a faggot cliffy, you fucking cliffy ass faggot.

I am a door, Hall is a shirt, hearne is a table, YOU ARE ARE A CHAIR, SHE IS A SOFA, WE ALL ARE MIRRORS, HE IS A BOX, THEY ARE TOTEM POLES

    the moral?
WORDS ARE MEANINGLESS UNTIL ONE CHOSSES TO GIVE THAT WORD THE POWER TO INSULT, DONT ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN, DONT GIVE UP THE POWER…. I HAVE THE POWER!!!!!

    ps
Isnt it interesting that there is no word which a woman can call a man equal to a man calling a woman cunt, and that is not fair, women should not give men that power, words are meaningless until they are given power…….BUT CLIFFY IS A FUCKING FAGGOT AND A CUNT.

  11. Cliffy says:

    Oh, I don’t know, Carpet Bagger …
“Isnt it interesting that there is no word which a woman can call a man equal to a man calling a woman cunt.”

Who says so? I think the word “cocksucker” works pretty good. I’ve heard women get really creative when emotional. Don’t sell them short.

  12. smartman says:

    Verds Mean Nutting
First of all, nice work as usual Chuck and Cliffy.

The word cunt comes from the Latin word cuneus meaning “wedge” or cuneatus meaning “wedge shaped”. So while not pleasing to the auditory senses it is nonetheless an accurate way to address a female in neanderthal terms.

All a woman has to do to fuck with a guy is tell him he has a really small penis or that she has heard he has a really small penis and prematurely ejaculates. That’ll mess a guy up for life. Most guys lose it right away and don’t have the good sense to reply that their penis wouldn’t seem small if your vag wasn’t previously used as a mold for a Rubbermaid 40 gallon trashcan and the only reason I come quick is so I can get the hell out before I fall in.

  13. Carpet Bagger says:

    Nose
I meant most secure men with avgerage to large size ccosk who dont suck dick.

If some poor thing called me a small dicked cok sucker, I shrug and say….. nice try, … next. There is no word you can call me that means a thing. I dont care what they say……. juts walk away from trouble……. and pissed off women…… cuz the only thing worse than calling them cunt would be to win an argument and luagh at them…..for it is true “HELL HATH NO FURY AS A WOMAN SCORNED” … so as a rule of thumb, avoid scorning them….laughing at thetem…or calling themcunt…..

I was more appealing to any female readers out there…. dont give away any of your power to anyone, dont care about any words and esp dont care about the word cunt…

    PPS
    A piece of helpful advice….
    men,
tell the young men in youir lives, if they dont already know,
DO NOT USE THE WORD CUNT!!! , it is a deadly thing,
JUST DONT USE IT…… EVER…. no mater my advice to women not to care…they still do..and they will claw your eyes out….YIKES!!!!

    ppps
See I told cliffy was not a cunt, and he knows he is not and he does not care if you call him one… he knows.

I can’t call someone a name like that at work and not expect isssues. But then again, I also can’t fight people under the rim, run up and down the court, and dodge elbows for 2 1/2 hours a day. Tough call.

  16. Mark X says:

Smartman, you’re killing me tonight …
” But what if the referee IS a faggot? What then? You gonna fine the guy for speaking truth to power? ”

“…their penis wouldn’t seem small if your vag wasn’t previously used as a mold for a Rubbermaid 40 gallon trashcan and the only reason I come quick is so I can get the hell out before I fall in.”

OK, I’m stealing that line … not that I’ve ever been accused of having a small… ah … never mind …
