The two British dudes from SHAUN OF THE DEAD—Simon Pegg and Nick Frost— take an American cross-country fanboy RV road trip starting at Comic-Con in San Diego and heading east.
It all goes down in the movie, PAUL.
Their wildest dream comes to life when they encounter a hip but foul-mouthed slacker alien named PAUL (voiced by Seth Rogen) who for several decades has been hanging out at a top secret Nevada military base.
AREA 51 anyone?
Well, PAUL joins the road trippers much to the chagrin of anyone and everyone who comes into contact with them along the way—not to mention The Law that’s hot on their tail!
They’re played by Bill Hader, Jason Bateman and Joe Lo Truglio.
Predictable hilarity ensues.
Lotsa sight and side gags throughout this comic sci-fi roadtrip, including nostalgic tributes to Steven Spielberg, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND and Reece’s Pieces.
Yet the film is surprisingly crude in language and definitely earns its R-rating!
A PG-13 version would have made it much more accessible to its intended audience.
PAUL co-starring Kristen Wiig raises 2 out of 5 disappointed fingers.
