Donnelly: World Cup 2022, How Gay it Ain’t

Recently, FIFA chief Sepp Blatter floated the possibility of holding the 2022 World Cup in January, since summertime temperatures in Qatar routinely exceed 110 degrees.

Is it just me, or should this have been a consideration before FIFA decided to award Qatar the Cup?

Moving the World Cup to January would wreak havoc with most leagues around the world, which generally play from fall to spring.

Now for the prickly part of the deal.

If you’re a soccer fan and also happen to be gay, don’t bother making the trip.

You see, in Qatar, anyone caught performing a gay sex act is jailed.

When asked about this, Blatter answered, “I would say they should refrain from any sexual activities.”

You know, pay a boatload of money for you and your partner to go support your country in the biggest sporting event in the world, but just act straight for that month while you’re there.

Cool?

    How Soccer of them
How very soccer of them to have the World Cup in a craphole like Qatar. No booze either, I assume.
