We Mizzou fans have been kicked in the nuts so many times we’re afraid to be optimistic. But here I go, I think we beat Oklahoma (but I’m going to wear a cup).

“Made fans”? In order to qualify as a “made fan” in Missouri, you have to prove that your Mom and Dad are also your Aunt and Uncle.

From this side of the state, this is THE biggest game that I can remember. The question remains, can Mizzou get past that one roadblock this year that has stopped them every year…that roadblock being Oklahoma. IF the Tigers beat OU, the momentum CAN take them to the Big 12 championship game where, concievably, it’s OU again or a weakened Texas team. If they beat OU, suddenly, THEY are the team to beat. It’s certainly a long way from the Norman conquest where Mizzou lost 77-0 and the score was closer than the game. And I’m not even an alum. Go Hawkeyes!

OU will roll against MU. This one smells a lot like KSU vs Nebraska to me. Small time football school build up the hype about beating big time football school all week and has rabid crowd frothing at the mouth. Crowd is quickly taken out of the game once OU gets up by 2 TDs early in the game.

MU won’t be able to run the ball vs OU… and OU isn’t going to allow Gabbert to beat them throwing it 60 times. OU crushed a FSU team that is better than MU. And has already played a couple teams on MUs level and I think they roll in this game by at least 2 TDs. I could see this one getting out of hand early for OU.

When I see GH and Chip Brown picking MU, it raises my eyebrows. But I can’t pick MU to beat a Stoops OU team until they actually do so at least once. They never have. That said, I’m hoping it’s a real barnburner come Saturday. We haven’t seen too many of those between OU and MU in recent history. The regular season meeting in Norman in 2007 comes the closest, plus the one Brad Smith’s freshman year (although that’s going back 8 years).

I still don’t know what the make of the MU defense. How is this defense and its personnel much different from the mediocre-to-bad defenses we’ve consistently seen throughout the Pinkel era, including just last year? I’m a Missourian, and they still need to Show Me. What a perfect opportunity come Saturday.

Gotta admit–with Mizzou’s defense, I actually think the Tigers have a chance. But still I can’t help thinking when Bob Stoops looks across the field at Gary Pinkel, he just laughs.
And Nebraska should fit in nicely with the Big 10. A fraudulent national champion wannabe or usedto be with an overhyped quarterback.

Mizzou played for a birth in a BCS title game? Was it a boy or a girl?

    OR, was it a BERTH?

    Jesus Christ on a stick.

Watch out! The Grammar Police are out and highly agitated!!

Does “JC on a stick” constitute using the Lord’s name in vain? We might have to invoke the Ten Commandments. Pennance? Proof reading jojo’s posts.

I love how this is suddenly the BIGGEST GAME EVARRRRR for Mizzou. No, the two games in 2007 (KU and OU) were exponentially bigger. Many orders of magnitude bigger. You know, because a NATIONAL FREAKING CHAMPIONSHIP berth was on the line.

I’d love for MU to win, but it ain’t gonna happen. Nothing is Coach Pinkel’s voice inflections, demeanor, articulation or body language suggests that he thinks it will either.

Lots of pressure on him and the team this week. Let’s see how they respond.

I’m thinkin’ this is gonna be worse than the KSU mauling of KU.

Uncle Dickhead once again proves that getting a lobotomy is NOT a good thing.

Time for Mizzou to step up and get it done. Like the saying goes, “You wanna be the Man? Well, you gotta BEAT the Man.”

As a KU alum I am looking forward to this match up on Saturday…because I love football and my team’s season was over in June.

And as much as I can despise MU at times, I fucking hate OU.

Very clever. I’m sure you’ve beaten many men.

Bet you save a lot of money buying your wife and sister Christmas presents, as you are only shopping for one.

This is not the biggest game for Mizzou in the past 40 years, as others have said. But I do think this is the biggest football game in Columbia in 40 years. The other big games of the recent past (’07 KU at Arrowhead, ’07 Big 12 Champ game, etc) were not in Columbia.

Is it possible for there to be a big game for a team that can’t even get a radio contract to carry its games in the largest city in the state?

Mizzou’s defense gives them a chance to win this game. They are playing out of their minds. The worry I would have if I was a Tigger fan is the running game. They are going to have to find a way to get the ball in the end zone and not settle for FG’s. That is what killed them in the Big XII Championship Game in ’07 against OU. IF MU can get some early turnovers and take a lead into halftime, they will win this game.

MU has had the skill position talent to beat Texas and OU. The problem has been they’ve been getting their asses kicked in the trenches. OU/Tex has been able to beat the MU spread by only rushing 4 and dropping 7 into coverage.

KC might technically be the largest city in the state, Plainsman, but the StL metro area dwarfs us. Although I’m sure you meant it as a dig instead of a real question, your point is well taken. Why is it that 810 clings to K-State? Clearly, they have the smallest fanbase in the city. For afternoon games, I’m sure their signal reaches well into Kansas but after sunset they probably don’t even cover the entire metro area.

as the #1 MU fan on this site..i attest that
this is the biggest game in mu history.
although the game against notre dame at
mu in the 70’s with greg hill kicking the
    winning field goal was big.
also beating nebraska in 1973/74 in columbia
    was huge.
But this is a game of reckoning. We’ve talked
about mu football for 30 years and we’ve seemed
to puss out on games that were against big
teams. this time its make or break time.
No more talk..no more excuses…the table is
set for mu to show its fans tht its a real
    winner.
I’ve been here before…i know that disappointment will be huge if we fail…but
smoething tells me that ou is not ready for
    mu this year….
27-24 mizzou by three if ou scores more than
    2 td’s i’d be reall y surprised….
its Show me time in missouri….
show me you are a major player….
    go mizzou

Missouri will not beat the No. 1 team in the BCS simply because of Pinkel. You can hear it in his comments this week. He has Schottenheimer disease.

Hey JoJo….Mizzou did play NOtre Dame in Columbia in the 70’s. They beat them in 72 and 78…both in South Bend and lost in Columbia in 84.

Mizzou lost to Notre Dame 24-7 in 1970 in Columbia (Dan Devine’s last season). A kid named Joe Theismann was their QB. I was real young but I was there.

C’mon MU fans – the Tigers were 1 win (hell, one half) from playing for the BCS championship and THIS is a bigger game? Get real. I’ll go out on a limb and predict that even if they win Saturday this team will not play for the championship.
