Hearne: Dear Fellow K-State Grads, Fuck Off, I’ve Gone Jayhawk!

Think catharsis meets brain washing…

Try this bizarre confession on for size from the KU student newspaper’s Web site and see if you buy it: “Proud to be a Converted Jayhawk,” reads the headline. The author, a dude who goes by ksugrad4KU.

“Being a KSU grad, I want to confess that I converted to being a Jayhawk fan a few years ago. I have always admired and looked up to KU as the superior school overall even when I used to be anti KU (I feel bad about that now),” it begins. “If we were to have kids, which we can’t due to health reasons, I would do anything possible to convince them to be Jayhawks.”

So far, so syrupy, right? You ain’t heard nuthin’ yet.

“In looking back I wish I had decided to attend THE University of Kansas instead of KSU. After saying that, I did have a great time at KSU and it is a good school. It is just not at the level of KU. I know KU would have been better academically for me and I would have had more positive memories there. It goes without saying that KU is better overall in sports as well. Even when KSU had that brief run of success against KU in football, I knew it was temporary. The overall record illustrates that, 65-37.”

It gets worse.

“I know KSU fans think of KU fans as being arrogant which if that is the case is not a bad thing. KU fans are proud of their school which they have a right to be. I honestly can say I love hanging out with KU fans. They are passionate and very spirited which are great traits to have. For the most part, I find KU fans and student athletes to have class and integrity which are very important to me.I am so grateful to be a Jayhawk and do belong to the KU Alumni Association as a Friend of The University of Kansas. I really wish I could say I am a graduate of THE University of Kansas but I can at least maybe convince other kids to attend KU through the help of my testimony.”

Think he’s done? No way!

“I don’t own anything purple anymore and I wear KU gear all the time now (I have to make up for lost time) 🙂 . This is not because I am anti KSU but because of how special KU is to me. I can’t divide up my attention or loyalties. It is one or the other and with me it is all KU now and always will be.”

The Benedict Arnold bottom line:

“I feel real bad about being anti KU when I didn’t know better and I don’t want other kids to make the same mistake I did. That is why I like going public with my testimony.I want to apologize to KSU fans for converting, but in my mind and heart there is nothing better then the KU Jayhawks when it comes to a team and school to root for. I have nothing negative to say about KSU. I really don’t. I just want to be a Jayhawk and most all of the KU fans have welcomed me into the Jayhawk family which I am extremely grateful for.Rock Chalk Jayhawk KU is music to my ears now.”

I know what you’re thinking. That Kevin Kietzman penned this and is about to come out. But you’re wrong.

He would endure less pain by coming out plainly and admitting that he’s gay.

Now if the rest of you jrBIG 12 school fans would come to your senses and convert as this wise gentlemen has, we could live happily ever after.

You all (Everyone) know that KU is the ONLY real school around here, but for some reason (bad parenting, bad advice, insanity, stupidity) you chose to attend a lessor school and you know that you secretly regret it….. it is OK….. we KU fans will accept you, come on over, the party is fine.

    ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK GOOOOOO KU

As an MU fan, I’ve got to say this dude sickens me. You choose a school and stick with it. If you want to root for kU or Nebraska, fine, whatever. But you’re a kU or Nebraska fan for life. I can respect that. I don’t agree with your lifestyle choice, but that’s your choice (and no, you can’t root for Nebraska in football and kU in basketball … that’s horseshit).

You can learn a lot about a person by how he chooses who he roots for. If you can change your allegiance from one rival school to another, you’re a piece of shit, plain and simple.

Pick a school/team and you stick with it. BTW, the same rules apply for pro sports … there’s no switching around.

Is this a serious “article?” I think I am going to be sick for a week. This “guy” is in for some rough sledding from his old forsaken alma mater in basketball. Which is all the gayhawks got.

    To Jayhawk Fan:

“we KU fans will accept you, come on over, the party is fine.”

We know KU accepts bandwagon fans. That’s the majority of their fanbase. In fact, I’d bet you’re a pretty good bandwagoner yourself.

    Obviously a fake.

Love this line: “I find KU fans and student athletes to have class and integrity which are very important to me.”

You do realize that KU has had exponentially more issues with players being ineligible and getting in trouble with the law than KSU for the past decade, correct?

Sorry but on-campus fights between athletic teams doesn’t exactly bring the word “class” to mind.

    Jayhawkfan,

You do realize that a “lessor” is a party to a lease agreement? I thought KSU was an Ag school? Yes, you’re right, obviously your education was superior…

I’m disappointed you didn’t attend KU also. You just look like such a good fit.

Assuming that the article in the KU student paper was real (which seems a stretch), this guy may have been a KSU grad but he was certainly was never a true KSU fan (nor am I). It is simply not possible to have ever been a true KSU fan and then somehow convert to being a KU superfan. The two are mutually exclusive. It’s the equivalent of something being a circle and then claiming to have converted to a square. If you truly are a circle then you can never be a square, plain and simple – you’re missing the four right angles and four equal sides. More likely this guy was an undefined shape while going to school with lots of circles as KSU and then later figured out that he was actually a square (KU loser). No real story in that, other than to use it as an anecdote to illustrate how KU fans are typically fickle, waffling people who have undergone little, if any, real self examination about their own morals, desires, insecurities and needs. What I find hilarious as a Mizzou grad and fan is that any KU fans would claim this loser as one of their own.

At least Terry can see his new team win in his old team’s basketball arena.

This person is my relative. This is not a drill. This is a very real person and a very real conversion. Reminds me of that big donor about 8 years ago who left 5M to KU. (All because KSU didn’t help him get a job during the Depression)
