Glazer: The Star’s Sam (Mellinger) is the Man

Instead of going over how lucky the Chiefs are for being 2 and 0 and that Matt Cassel still isn’t any good, etc., lets hit something more important for now, Sam Mellinger.

Sam is now the man at the Kansas City Star – sports and beyond. Who would have thought that after Jason Whitlock, Joe Posnanski and Jeff Flanagan all left in the wake of the newspaper’s financial woes the past two years that Sam the Man would be killing it for the Star.

He is outstanding.

One reason I am not writing a followup on the Cleveland game is this guy. What more can be said about the Chiefs than what Mellinger covered in this morning’s sports section of the Star. It sounded like me, but, uh, better. It was right to the point and written like a true, top notch Chiefs Fan.

TEAM WINNING DESPITE CASSEL.

He got is all baby. Sam is funny when he needs to be, gives you a few stats when he wants to make a point and most important, he writes what you were thinking. Best comment today from Sam; “But this success is entirely unsustainable in the short or long term as long as Matt Cassel continues to play quarterback like this.”

He writes nothing I disagree with. Nothing.

Simply put, SAM THE MAN IS THE BEST THING THE STAR HAS FOUND IN YEARS.

Sam is a reason to buy the paper for God’s sake. I have yet to meet this person, but I look forward to doing so. In fact I will do an interview with Sam soon (if he or his bosses will let me).

My thoughts on the Win?

It’s all hats off to Chiefs coach

Sam is a good sportswriter. He also proves how OVER-RATED jopo and JW were.

Stick to sex Craig. You don’t know much about sports writing either. Sam may say what you’re thinking but he’s a not even close to Pos or Pork Chop talent wise. Not even close.

NY Times reported today what I thought was erroneous info. about JW’s salary at Fox, $2 million over three years? Even JW himself said that figure was wildly exaggerated, but there it is in the Times today. Any clues, KC Confidential?

Mellinger is a mediocre writer attempting to fill some big shoes. Some good news for the Star — he might be with them for awhile. I doubt anybody will try to steal him.

Craig Sam is very good, simple but good. JW always had an edgy angle, JoPo always went deep with his feelings, Sam give you the facts and just the facts. Having said that, he is on the money. Craig, I do think you are sharp with sports, at least football, but love your stories about you and life the best. The one about your first love was so damn outstanding, made me forget for a moment you were not a supporter of my downtown, damn you.

Glazer heres what you and Sammy have in common. You both bagged on the Chiefs all preseason. Now that the Chiefs are undefeated and 2-0, you guys want to jump on the bandwagon towards the playoffs. Both you two were wrong. The Chiefs are on top of the West by themselves.

Sam is good no doubt, but you two missed the boat on our Chiefs. They will win the West at 10-6.

The Star lost Whitlock – the Chiefs will lose to SF this weekend, IND the next and to HOU the one after – which is to say Mellinger is to Whitlock as 2-3 is to 2-0, i.e., not nearly as good.

You are spot on about Mellinger. Everything he writes, I agree with. 100 percent. In fact, I now read his column to find out what I am thinking. I’m serious. I no longer have thoughts of my own.

Lets say it now…Chiefs luck has to run dry…no real offense, shakey D, depend on big plays to score….San Fran fighting for its playoff life looked solid against the Super Bowl Champs…they should win, Arrowhead noise a factor and San Fran had four turnovers, thats music to Chiefs ears…final score 27 to l7 niners. sorry. I hope I am wrong. Really do. but l7 is our magic number and I don’t think its enough.
