Hearne: WaterFire IV; Paint Drying Watch Party, Anyone?

Talk about Middle Class Values…

Are the 50 and 60-something standard bearers on the KC Star’s editorial board really this easily entertained? Do they ever venture out and about and check out something really fun?

I mean besides Miriam Pepper – she totally has a life.

Still one has to wonder about Thursday’s “editorial” touting the snoozefest known as

Road through Flush Creek tonite on my bike, hopefully they’ll clean up all the goose shit on the walkway before THE BIG EVENT.

So Hearne … will you be covering the REAL event this weekend … the best concert in the city this summer? Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs will rock Starlight tomorrow night. Can’t wait.

HC: Gonna try not to. That’s a bit to geezer for me to be honest. However Mark Edelman is planning on reviewing it.

Hearne, you are sounding all negative like Tony. This is a very cool event. Cliffy, the best concert this weekend is the Pixies at the Uptown.

HC: Agree with you on the Pixies. Promoted their shows here when they first toured in the late ’80s / early ’90s. But please, not WaterFire. This deal is so New Age, pretentious, boring. Not trying to be negative here but this event renders the Plaza Art Fair as cutting edge by comparison. At least there are plenty of people, food and drink options and more to look at with the Art Fair. If you think sitting on the banks of Brush Creek and watching some distant fires buring with the odd juggler/fire breather wafting past is entertaining, go for it. Otherwise you can jam onto the bridge over the Plaza and wait around for a brief Granner or Quixotic performance. Hey, it’s not like I haven’t been to this deal. I didn’t even try to pre-brainwash my kids. And they generally sport pretty positive outlooks on stuff like this.

And Rain was not “too geezer?” (LOL). To each his own. I’ll look forward to Edelman’s piece.

HC: No ‘Rain’ was plenty geezer. I actually went to it because McTavish dropped out (and then back in at the last minute). Frankly I was there to check out the crowd, see if they were halfway good or not. I was curious. Not curious in the slightest about this show. Unlike Rain, I’m sure they have what’s left of their chops. Just don’t need to time travel on this one. Not the slightest bit curious. Hey but I can see where others would be.

I understand what you’re saying, but I still think it’s a fun event. I’d rather go see a full Quixotic show though.
I’m generally not into New Agey stuff but I love the athleticism and aesthetics of it all. Wish I would have seen the Pixies back then but I was just a poor college student. Glad they have given me a second chance. Saw them in Chicago last October and they flat out rocked!
