wow…talkd with kyle and collene and they
said business was coming back to kellys.
It will never be like the old days…with
    dui checkpoints/the economy/more options
(10 years ago there was really just one or
two sports bars in joco…now we counted
from 75th north to 143rd at least 40!)…
power and light competition/…so of course
noones doing the biz they used to….its simple
    business..
One place that is cleaning up is touches at 105th
and metcalf. They are attracting a 40/50 year
old crowd and are packing them in because their
customers don’t want to fight those young bars.
Craig…the economyis affecting everyone so don’t
single out kellys….its just a facto f business
cycles and we’re in a tough one now.

    were wrong.

    @jojo

Also the 40/50 year old demographic in general isn’t into the Ink and Tech N9NE scene.

    No Craig is right here.
I heard they spent close to $500,000 on that roof redo and deck. There’s no way there’s a good ROI there.
And its not just the bad economy and Westport. For example look at the McCoys expansion into the Foundry space. They’re doing very well. And my occasional bartending spot- Californos. Their business is up considerably from two years ago. They’ve got a very dynamic live music/youtube channel. They’re evolving into Facebook and online. This day and age that’s promotion.
I love Kellys but in terms of web promotion and social networking (which I do as a sideline business) they don’t get it, and I’ve approached Pat several times.

Steve: Then they should use those bucks, most likely from pension checks, from pension funds that haven’t gone broke yet to get some dance lessons. If you’ve never been go sometime and watch these sorry bastards. If there was a dance scene in One Flew Over The Coocoo’s Nest it would have looked like the dance floor at Touche’.

Lots of sorry ass guys lined up against the wall, probably retired union workers, like freshman who can’t summon the courage to hit on somebody’s grandma. If you’ve got a thing for old chicks, (take some lube, you’re gonna need it), or if you want advice on hip replacements, knee surgery, ED, vaginal rejuvenation, menopause, HRT, AARP, Medicaid/Medicare, botox injections, hearing aids, Denny’s vs IHOP or prepaid funeral plans Touche’ is THE HOTSPOT.

    smartman…obviously you’ve been there many
many times because you know all about it.
Are you one of those “mature players” you
    put down?
seems like you have the place down pretty good..
    you’re probably a regular.
but…yes…it does well….and the owner is
one hell of a good guy.

hey smartman…that old 48 year old over the hill
bag wife of yours is about the right age
to be hanging at touches. She’s probably been
there looking for a man with some big bucks
because you ain’t cutting the cake (if you know
    what I mean)……………..
actually 48 is a little old for that place…
you might want to take the old lady to john
    knox village for bingo….
48? And you try to come off assome stud ….you
stuck with some old lady…maybe see if glazer
will take you out pimping so you can find someone who hasnt reached menopause yet!

Jojo, my wife and I go once a month to laugh our asses off and to remind me to get right with God. Cause like I said, for me Touche’ is like HELL. I’ve even seen African Americans there with no rhythm.

I’m sure the owner is a great guy. I’m sure they make lots of money. The staff is always professional and courteous and they pour a STIFF drink.
That aside it sounds like you agree with everything else.

It’s just not my scene jojo. If you wanna bust a move Touche’ ain’t the place. You wanna break a hip, now you’re talkin’

Jojo, push that button that’s clipped to your bib and tell the male nurse to clean you up, change your diaper and give you some more thorzine. You’re gettin’ kinda pissy again.

Kelly’s was alwasy kind of a nice crap hole. It’s time has passed. Hope the guys can make it on the St. Pats. bucks, thats really the only special day Kelly’s has anymore. It’s kinda empty when I go by there on weeknights, Friday and Saturday are so-so. They all went downtown Kelly’s guys.

I agree with the importance of Facebook, web, etc. However, if you walk into Kelly on Friday or Saturday night you will be carded and greeted by one of the owners. That is the best type of marketing there is; Owners working their places making sure everyone has a good time and is safe. Trendy places come and go but good operators (Kelly’s, Lews, etc) will survive for the long term.
