Pinkel should be given credit for running a program which upholds standards of conduct. I doubt it is possible for a major college football program to not have some misbehavior by its student-athletes — even the rigorous character studies conducted by NFL franchises on its prospective draft picks is imperfect — but instead of trying to cover up the misdeeds of his Tigers, Pinkel comes clean and takes action.

I’m not always thrilled with Pinkel’s coaching style, but his leadership is exemplary.

JayhawkTony – i also worked in newspapers and I always laugh when people cry foul over the “liberal media”
Really? So wild and liberal that things like “kick butt” get edited out?
    I feel your pain.

Wow, finger banging is now called digital penetration? I guess he was using his thumb drive. Wonder how they would describe “fisting”?

Props to Pinkel for manning up and to the victim for reporting. Most girls would have run to an attorney, who would run to the AD for a quick cash payout to make this go away. I wonder how many hush money payments Uncle Lew has authorized during his tenure at KU to cover the pump and runs?

    yaaaawwwn….
more of the same from this jrBIG 12 school. This is just more of the same in a never ending parade of embarassments from that place… from paige arena to the black athletes hooking up with the coaches wife and then calling her from jail to getting slaughtered in a minor football bowl game by NAVY to cotton balls on campus to multiple DUIs this year.

It is almost no fun to make fun them anymore, maybe it would be best if they just went to another conference.

I would probaly not even post this comment except for the ULTAmouthy mu douchers who never miss a beat when KU has a non-issue like that ticket thing. LOL, mu (and most other schools) only wish they had the popularity and demand for tickets for there to be a ticket scandal in the first place.

poor mu…. when will they stop fking themselves over…. more of the same, what a joke…… yaaaaaaawwwnn

I suppose MU could try to cover this up the way KU did with Sherron “weenie wagger” Collins. But I’m glad they’re not. Washington deserves what he gets.

    Crimson and Blue Forever
Jayhawk Fan raises some real good points. It’s obvious that as soon as you put on the Crimson and Blue that you are above everything that is going on at the “jrBIG12” school. Never once has a Jayhawk student-athlete or student for that matter had the gall to drink and drive and most certainly has never stooped to the low that Washington did. KU coaches simply recruit better human beings that have a much better internal moral compass. Bottom line, KU defines moral clarity. KU had the good sense to loose to that little league school so they could be spared the embarrasement of playing in a minor bowl.(Although if we would have lost to NAVY it would have been because we are a school of patriots that wanted to give back). Certainly these sorts of things happen to a lesser extent at all university’s just way more at jrBig12 school and never at KU. Ok, I’ll relent….as Jayhawk Fan mentioned previously, the only so called “black eye” in recent memory has been the ticket scandel and the in-fighting between the greatest charitable squad in the history of college basketball and an orange bowl champion football squad of two years prior. When champion meets champion egos are surely going to get involved even in the eutopia that is Lawrence. These incidents were simply a sympton of sucess. Finally, here’s to Turner Gill taking the greatest university on the face of the earth to a less minor bowl than that of jrBig12 school or at least a .500 record, letting jrBig12 school beat them at Arrowhead to keep things interesting and Burrito Bill’s bunch to go win the big 12 and gift wrap a tourney game to a mid-major for charity purposes.

This is a little lesson about glass houses. We all love to gloat and rub it in when bad things are happening at the other school. You cannot seriously say KU is worse than MU or KSU. We all have issues.

If the victim was your daughter would these jokes still be so funny? She should have been left alone after the Popeye’s joke…there’s no topping that one. Uncle Dick, next time go out on top like Costanza instead of trying to out-funny yourself

  27. Anonymous says:

Funny how virtually the same thing happens with Sherron Collins (except on an elevator) and Sweet Lew makes it all go away and Kansas fans praise him like some kind god. The big difference here is Mizzou will take action against these idiots while Kansas sweeps it under the rug.

    The Independent Rage
The Star should have included the “digital penetration” description because it’s far more specific, but it sure is an awkward phrase. Who talks like that? Like your friend, I had to think about it a second before it finally hit me — “digital” as in the digits of the hand. Why not just say, “penetrating her vagina with his finger(s)”? I guess that’s just typical cop-speak (people are “subjects,” cars and trucks are “vehicles,” yes and no are “affirmative” and “negative”, etc.)

I think 301 Campus View Drive is the College Park Apartments. I lived there for a year in the early ’90s. The place was always kind of party central for MU students. Its condition was OK back then, when it wasn’t too old, but I’d really like see it today (after 20 years of college parties). Talk about a recipe for aging like a president.

  30. Anonymous says:

    smartman
Digital Penetration would confuse most Star subscribers unless it was a Tim Finn concert review.

I am intrigued by the lingo. So again I ask what is cop-speak for, fisting, toe jamming, shoving fruits and vegetables, a beer bottle or other foreign objects,…. that don’t fall into the category of exchange student(s)… in the vag or anus.

sorry…I was raised to do the right thing..
if not I got a massive belt beating.
All these kids/losers at ksu/ku/mu or any
university that does this kind of crap needs
    it…..
Have we not seen enough for all of us to realize
that its time to change our attitude toward these
kids and let them know they ain’t shit because
they carry a football or bounce a basketball.

  36. Anonymous says:

    Jayhawk Fan
Yup, I agree jojo, no mattter which school these kids attend they must stop being treated like they are above the cival rules. period. They have to wait until they are millionaires for that, but in school they should behave, or face severe penalties.

The issue may have something to do with soft, or non, raising kids.

When I was a kid I hated 2 things 1)The Belt 2) Being told I better get used to taking care of things myself because someday no one would be there to take care of it for me.

I hated that bs, but upon reflection… it was probably good for me when I asked the teacher how to spell a word she said “look it up” and I asked “how can I do that if I dont know how to spell it?” and she said ….”You better get used to it because someday no one will be there to take care of it for me. Used to hate, now I respect the words, truer worde have never been spoken. And if I acted up…. I got the belt and sooner later I understood. Dont act up… and things will go smooth.

    PS
    digital penetration?
Is that different from analog penetration? Does it require an iphone? Is there an ap for that?

    Greg,
You seem to be very biased and not taking into consideration that Washington is “innocent until proven guilty”. I find it strange that a woman would wake up and fingers are already inside of her? Did she not hear him come into her room? Did she not feel him get into her bed? Did she not feel his hands going into her under clothes? She didn’t feel anything until his fingers were already inside of her vagina? That just doesn’t sound right. I mean I guess it could happen but most people feel when someone gets into their bed and especially when they are touched below. Unless she was intoxicated or was on some medications. Furthermore, the reports say that after the 3 minutes, he went back into the other girls room where they had sex and she escorted him out afterwards. The alleged victim could have called the police while he was still in the apartment, I mean that would have been perfect timing, he was still there. It seems odd that he would leave one girls room and go into another and assault her not knowing how she would react, what if she screamed? what if she called the police? Why would he stay and have sex after he assaulted the other woman? You have already crucified the kid and you haven’t even heard both sides. Is she able to say her assault happened at a time during those 3 minutes? Seems like she would glance at the clock. Let’s wait to hear the evidence before we crucify anyone.

    ___

GH: Innocent until proven guilty is a song most often whined by those who are guilty. Yeah, I think Derrick is guilty. You appear to believe the victim is lying. I like my odds.

Just a story about how med students digitally raped women all the time. Unsuspecting women who are anesthetized are fingered for science without consent.

    jojo,
you may have you defense. Is the football player a med student?

    http://www.theunnecesarean.com/blog/2010/1/29/yes-its-true-med-students-perform-pelvic-exams-on-anesthetiz.html

If the football player is fkd up then these doctors are just as fkd up, unless I am missing something.

“”…the practice of digitally raping anesthetized female and male patients without their consent continues.””

One of many articles on the ethics of performing pelvic exams on anesthetized women was written by Robin Fretwell Wilson, a professor of law at the University of South Carolina School of Law, who testified before the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice Hearing on June 10, 2003. In her article, Unauthorized Practice: Teaching Pelvic Examination on Women Under Anesthesia that appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Women

Greg gets at a decent point. The criminal law realm (in which I’ve never worked, admittedly) purports to have a “presumption” of being innocent until proven guilty. I seem to recall and old Turnip named Hunvald explaining to us puppies years ago that such concept is largely a farce. Because while most “presumptions” under the law actually have real legal consequences and impact (i.e. shifting a burden of proof to one side who would not otherwise have it), the “presumption of innocence” is basically just a lot of lip service under the law. Like I said, I don’t do criminal. But my general understanding is that the whole concept of being “presumed innocent” is not much of a legal concept at all, but instead has taken on some kind of mythical pop cultural life of its own over the years. Criminal law dudes can feel free to augment or correct me. I’m just speaking from general background knowledge.

sounds to me that mr. washington maybe oversteped
his bounds but theres more to this story than
    we know.
He fingers the one girl then goes and has sex
    with her roomate…uh…hello….do i feel a
scorned woman…do i feel something “fishy”
    …(bad pun)….but this ain’t adding upi and
when it doesnt add up theres lots of questions
raised that make it reasonable doubt.
