Channel 5 just needs to concentrate on what they do best or worst however one looks at it: report on fires that affect few in the metro; give the daily shooting and murder count in KCMO; and give wind damage reports from rural areas during storm coverage..anyone that follows sports is going to get their sports coverage other places and not during the 90 seconds allowed them by local stations..Michael Coleman needs to keep the resume polished because he could go the way of William Action Jackson quite soon..

    Agreed. He is terrible.

GH, we give you props when you do well, so we will do the opposite when you drop one. Coleman is certainly no worse than anybody else on the Chiefs broadcasts – Trent Green is atrocious. Mike Kelly has absolutely no style or enthusiasm. The local TV media throughout this town deserves to be relegated to trash pickup in Raytown 9-5 M-F. It’s all hooorible.

This dude is bad. Once upon a time I liked KCTV’s sports reporting and even when they went with Neil Jones and Leif Lisec I liked them even though they were just drafting off of Metro Sports. But this guy is dull, offers no insight and brings nothing else to the party. He really needs to look into maybe going the “Mad Prophet of the Airwaves(sports edition)” like Jack Harry or something to shake things up.

Or, better yet, channel five should just admit their mistake and fire the guy. I’m glad they recognized their mistake in getting rid of sports, now recognize THIS mistake and get rid of Coleman.

Thank you, thank you! Now I finally know the source of the “Back to the drawing board!” clip they keep playing on The Border Patrol. I missed the initial discussion of it and have been clueless ever since. For a while I thought it was Todd Haley’s voice but thought it just didn’t sound right. SOOOO glad to finally know the source.

It is what it is, a game of inches.
If he gives 110 percent and moves
the ball forward, I think his momentum
will carry him in the second half.
It ain’t over ’til it’s over and you can
take that to the bank! Back you you, Greg.

    I told you so
Even before the chiefs broadcasts, I told my wife that the new person they got doing sports is not only bad, but it is embarrassing to watch. She had to look for herself and, her words, ” Oh I feel sorry for him”. Watch the broadcast tonight then watch Dinner for Schmucks. Sad and the station GM should be fired.

Michael Coleman, the only Kansas City reporter, print or electronic, to effectively shoot holes in the “New York Islanders to Sprint Center” rumors, which are, honestly, ridiculous.

I gave my review of Coleman quite some time ago, before the Chiefs’ preseason began. So in addition to his Stuart Scott wannabe telecasts, I only need add that his sideline reports are channeling John Madden at the height of his obviousness — without the football cred or avuncularity.

I’ve only caught the guy a few times, but he does not appear to be getting better … In fact, it makes me uncomfortable to watch him struggle. Sorta like watching Barney Fife on an old Andy Griffith episode …

GREG////did you read about the marlins owners
scam to get a new stadium? when are you and the
rest of the lame ducks going to look at glasses
books and see how they handlede kansas city…..
come on greg…lets get on this…the marlins
screwed the city by telling them they had no
money and shook that town….same with washington….look into the local guys books and lets see what we shall see………..lets do it.

GH: jojo, I called Glass and he agreed to bring his Royals’ financial books to a lunch at the Wal-Mart in Independence. He said he’s losing his ass because his kid Dan has been sneaking into the parking lot w/o paying and on top of that, Danny Boy’s been dining and dashing at both Stroud’s in left field and Rivals Sports Bar in right. The kid is out of control.

Speaking of channel 5. They now have Allan Shope doing sports reports. Is that the same guy who stole a co-worker’s check at 41? Or some sordid story like that.

The hiring of Michael Coleman wreaks of incompetency. I do not understand how anyone could think hiring him was a good idea. “Boom goes the Dynamite” guy would have been a better option.

I’d rather watch YellaWood commercials than Michael Coleman.

Avuncularity? Had to look that one up, MoCrash. Nice.

guys this is kansas city…not hollywood…
    what do you expect….bob barker?
    kardashian? jim rome? john madden?
heidi montag….for gosh sakes kctv 5 charges
clients for ticekts to worlds of funs then sends them 1099 forms for tax purposesx….this guy is like some african american clown from a 1940
movie….and I’m sure they didnt pay him much.
The new news director is from some small town
….maybe alabama so you know he’s bringing one of his buddies with him.
Coleman is to sports what that little italian
guy named lauria is to weather…both don’t know
what the freaking crap is going on…..wow….
what do you couch potatoes expect for $10 an hour?

greg…seriously….can we find the books on
the royals? freedom of information? i’m sure
therers some real interesinting stuff hanging
around those numbers that would cause a
    sstorm in kc.

GH: Deadspin.com is where the MLB financials are being exposed. I don’t think they have posted the Royals’ books yet but when they do, expect the local media to be all over it. I heard Robert Ford, the host of the Royals’ postgame show on 610, do a long monologue the other day on wanting to get his hands on the Royals’ books. Once they hit the Internet, expect the horsehide to fly.

Ptolemy, you are entirely wrong. Those other guys may be bad, but Coleman is at a whole different level of suck. He is the suckiest suck who ever sucked.

Hell, I’d rather listen to Nick Wright than watch another Michael Coleman sideline report. About the same level of insight, but at least Nick’s not old and pathetic. Ok, he is pathetic, but he’s young.

I don’t mind Michael Coleman so much, maybe because I don’t watch KCTV5 but maybe once a month. However, the two new guys in weather and sports, while they may be nice, are VERY hard to listen to. UGH. Jack Harry must have gotten worried that Leon Liebl is a better broadcaster than he is…bring back Leon!

jojo– The Royals are a private company. Freedom of Information does not apply. The other teams were exposed through a pretty improbable media leak. The Royals may or may not be the victim of a future leak. I sure hope they are.

    2. — Haven’t heard Michael Coleman but he sounds like a Stuart Scott rewind–thinks he’s cool and tries to talk cool, but he’s really about the dorkiest person on television and it’s obvious to everyone but him. Gotta love idiots like that.

“Here’s the deal. If by the end of the game, the Chiefs have more points than the Bucs, than the Chiefs win the football game. Holla!”

  21. Anonymous says:

    JoHawk
    Leon Liebl IS better.

And Keitzman still sucks. So he is denied the right to speak about Coleman (even though Coleman is weak).

Just my own perspective, but I really couldn’t care less about receiving insight or relevant comments from a sideline reporter during a Chiefs preseason game. I generally DVR preseason games and “watch” them later as background noise while I do other things. But having now read some of those zany Coleman comments, I have to say that I’m now going to be paying more attention. That stuff’s high entertainment! I just hope they don’t give him his walking papers over this. I want to hear more! Don’t any of you other dudes know a good train wreck when you see it?

It’ll be difficult to top Whitlock’s train wreck.

Did KCTV contract 610’s Ryan Maguire to hire Michael Coleman? Somebody get to the bottom of this.

  25. Rampage says:

    The only problem!
I like Coleman. He just needs to slow down when he talks. At times he talks so fast, he sounds like hes mumbling.
