Hearne: Add Two DUI Convictions to Star Editor Mike Fannin’s Resume

And another one gone, and another one gone, another one bites the dust….

To the dramatic slagheap of startling revelations and allegations about Kansas City Star editor Mike Fannin unfolding over the past week, add the following:

A pair of DUI convictions, two days of slam time and three days of house arrest.

That according to Wyandotte County District Court digital records.

On April 8, 2006, court documents say, one Michael C. Fannin did operate his vehicle “while driving under the influence of alcohol” at an alleged speed of 74 miles-per-hour in a 55 mph zone, on

Let’s add lying on his resume about graduating from Texas, too.

After reading about this guy the past few days, no doubt he’s a dirtbag.

DUI’s are like small dick’s. Lots of guys have one.

Surely “2” DUI’s isn’t considered “skeletons” in this day and age, particularly in the newspaper business where being a drunk is part of the old school “tortured” reporter stereotype. Practicing beastiality, being a registered sex offender, felony conviction for battery or armed criminal action would seem to rattle the cage a bit more.

What’s the line on Holly Lawton is she a hottie, a naughty or a nottie?

One DUI is a stupid mistake. Two DUIs is just stupid.

What’s the conventional wisdom? To get one DUI arrest typically takes probably dozens of actual times of drunk driving, if not more? Sounds like dude may want to stick to blow (as alleged on this website that he engages in) or making out with ugly old men’s necks — far less dangerous conduct, believe it or not. But everything’s relative.

Wait, this guy drank liquor and jumped behind the wheel? That’s unbelievable. Nobody does that!

Ok, so I’m lost… what has this guy done that is so bad?

The real question is, why hide it if it isn’t so bad?

Some guys never learn. Maybe he’ll kill someone, manslaughter is usually a pretty good wake up call. He could try having sex with prettier women. I hear that you don’t have to get drunk to have sex with the pretty ones.

    Poor fucker.

Every sanctimonious, do gooder in the metro area will pile on now.

    Brutal.

    Ominous even.

It also shows how much of this is lying on Zieman’s doorstep. Had he listen to Fannin and checked him out before naming him editor, Whitlock would have not aired Fannin’s skeletons out in public.

But it does beg the question: what did Whitlock had to gain by going public with Fannin’s dirty laundry other than put a clown suit on him?

Fatboy could have used it as blackmail and got his pay raise the illegal way: Fannin slipping him an envelope filled with money during a power lunch at Gates.

dui’s…come on …thats not a skelton in someones closet. I know guys with 5 or 6 and
still driving…as a star employee he probably
got off easy because the cities need the star to
spread good news about them and help them get
more tax money from the 98% of us who actually
    work…so having 2 duis is nothing anymore…
wioth all the stops they have now most of us
will habve 4 or 5 before we hit md age….the copsare everywhere looking for drinkers…..
its not a sin but they treat you worse than a serial murderer

Btw, my investigative team tells me Fannin got caught zooming in October 2008 in Livingston County (Chillicothe), going more than 20 mph over the speed limit. He pleaded guilty the next month and Paid a $143.50 fine.

Please note: for all you DUI wannabe’s, stay out of MO. The laws have just much stronger. One of the best DUI attorney’s in town says this is how bad it will be. First the cost for a FIRST time offender will be 6-7K plus the tuition enrollment fee for the one year diversion course. This for a first-timer. It is never worth it, but now it’s much worse. Don’t want to even think what your second or third may bring you. Never plan to visit that hell.

i dont driink and drive. I just added AAA auto
care for $59 per year. If i have too many
cocktails i call them and tell them my car
car won’t start. They bring a tow truck…tow
my car to my house…i’m and my girl are in
the front seat of the tow truck and we save
5-7k on lawyers fees and our car is on our
    driveway in the morninng.
I refuse to drink and drive…one drikn per
    stop….no more…it saves money and i don’t
have to wear the ankle bracelets/and face court
…..they will kill the bar business in the end…people will just say screw it…no more
drinking except at home…what a great country
this is….and if i have an inkling that i’m
over the limit…i wait an hour before i get
beind the wheel…no more problems for jojo….

Wait…is this the pot calling the kettle black? Let he who hasn’t been arrested for a DUI, (Hearne) cast the first stone.

Why is no one commenting on how manly Fannin looks in his mugshot? Is it so wrong to down a few at KCCC with the best reporter since Hedda Hopper and then drive all swirlvely? That wool looks kinda itchy, though.

Hearne, the apparently perfect driver, throwing more stones:

    > Btw, my investigative team tells me Fannin got caught
    > zooming in October 2008 in Livingston County
    > (Chillicothe), going more than 20 mph over the speed
    > limit. He pleaded guilty the next month and Paid a

Really Hearne, a speeding ticket causes you to reference your “investigative team”?? How laughable. How long does it take you to search the MO-county websites to find these unholy abuses by Fannin?

This is the kind of stupid shit that gets people to start poking into your background, Chris. As such, anyone here hanging out at the Liberty Memorial w/ dirt on Hearne?
    _____________
HC: Sorry you missed my mild attempt at humor. Perhaps you’d have gotten it if I said, “my crack investigative team.” Liberty Memorial, huh? We’re going back to the Hearne is gay deal again? Oh, well.
