Hearne: More Layoffs, Possible Pay Cuts Coming to KC Star

It’s like this…

One reason it’s proving so difficult to bump embattled Kansas City Star sports columnist Jason Whitlock’s salary:

More layoffs and/or cutbacks appear to be on the way, sources say.

“Whitlock has strong sources that there were more layoffs coming,” says one source – possibly as soon as next week.

But probably not until the fourth quarter, adds another.

    I may not care much for the Star’s left-dominated editorial board (how about some balance?), but I do feel for Star employees across the board. The print media: What an incredibly difficult business to be in these days.

    Why don’t you give the same “economic” reporting to other KC Metro companies?
    HC: Gee Vic, maybe because I didn’t spend the last 16 years working there and they don’t happen to involve some of the highest profile personalities in the media market.

    Star should sign Jason ASAP…need to innovate with Jason..go after 61&81 rev. Jason has the chops to do radio tv you name it. Star needs innovation..web site is pretty crude…Sports section losin juice.
