At least we’ll always have Greg’s column to catch up on Husker news.

I doubt it, OlatheCat. Greg may bleed Husker red, and there may be occasional references, but if NU becomes irrelevent to the local media, it will by definition become irrelevent to Greg’s blog. If the local media isn’t mentioning Nebraska, it doesn’t provide much wiggle room for a media critic.

Three items…I don’t hate Nebraska. I enjoy watching them throw their chests out when they haven’t been relevant on the field in more than 10 years, and might not be ever again. Much of the Huskers’ claim to fame has been based on their dominance of the Big 8/Big 12 North, and that is not going to be happening any more.

Second, what you see out of KK is what he feels about KU. He has no reason to pretend to be objective regarding Nebraska anymore, so what you see now is the way he really is regarding these “rivalry” schools.

Third, Todd Blackledge would see a different Husker crowd gesture if they had beaten the Huskers. When the Cats spanked them in Lincoln, and when TTech demolished them last year in Memorial Stadium, Husker fans shelved their applause for single finger salutes. It’s easy to applaud when you leave happy.

Ptolemy, may read that again, Penn State did beat Nebraska. BTW when has KU, KState, MU ever been relevant on the field?

All the Nebraska fans who applauded Penn State back in 1981 are dead.

Ptolemy, although confused about who won that 1981 game, is correct about NU fans. I didn’t see any Nebraska fans applauding Mizzou after the 2008 game in Lincoln.

Depends on your definition of relevant I suppose.

GH: Got my 8s and 6s mixed up again. That hasn’t happened since my last-call days. Thanks for the fix.

“I have a feeling Nebraska will miss the Big 12 but not nearly as much as the Big 12 will miss Nebraska.”

HA! Spoken like a true Husker. NU will miss the Big 12 North something fierce once they are getting ass pounded by Ohio State, Penn State, etc….

Eric … while I hope you’re right I suspect not. The overall football product in that conference is mediocre.

I agree with OlatheCat’s original post. Greg talks about Nebraska here almost as much as the other bufoons do Jason Whitlock.

How does Nate Bukaki have a radio gig. Takes a half of segment to spit out at question. You can feel the guest cringe on his every word. Hope he pays SSJ half his check, cuzz without him ol Nate is doing stats behind the scenes. Good kid Im sure, but has the voice for mime work. Look forward to his vacations and road work with the Royals.

I had the fortunate misfortune to attend most of NU’s home games from 03-08. I winced as streaks ended and records fell. However, for those of you with ten or fewer wins in 40 years against the corn, Good Luck! You will hate Texas as much as I do! GBR !

Now that I’ve actually read your post…

    A bit off-topic:
    > … might be the lead topic on KK

Sounds like alot of sour grapes.

Nebraska has always been a class act and you sound bitter and small trashing them.

You should simply thank them for giving you years of competition and move on.

    Go Big Red.

NU will be as irrelevant in KC as KC (the entire city included, sports, entertainment – what little there is, etc.) is to the entire nation. KC you are a 2nd maybe 3rd rate city nationally with 0 appeal, sports or othewise, to the country as a whole. You are just above Omaha in terms of national relevance. Have fun with your fountains and you WILL miss NU fans and their money. Hell, you cried when the city was about to lose a conference. KU, KSU, MU? Who cares! Male anatomy envy, perhaps?

Don’t worry, you all (KU, KSU, MU) will realize why NU left in a couple years when the Big Texas League formally known as the Big 12, is de-stablizing once again and you are looking for a new conference to take you. Interesting that you are all taking this very personally but saying you don’t care…interesting indeed! I was actually hoping that the Big 10 would snap up KU too but the more I read this crap….good luck to you fans that think in this direction.
Don’t be a bunch of haters. Makes you guys look and sound like a bunch of SEC fans.
    GBR!!

Being a Husker in KC, I was initially a bit melancholy about NU’s move to the Big 10 next year. I’ll miss all the veiled envy and the KU, MU and KSU 40 year wiining streak stretches. However, after I hear all the venom towards NU from the envious K.C. radio and newspaper hacks – good riddance K.C. You are right Greg, its obvious and the K.C. media wont admit it right now, but they will miss NU, NU Fans, and their $ much more than NU will miss K.C. It wont be hard to get that Big 10 Network Subscription on cable and cancel that Star Subscription. All things Husker on my TV 24-7. Bye-bye shortsided and petty K.C. local media hacks. At least you can report on how much more money Texas is stealing from the local universities and K.C. in the coimg years.

Since when have out-of-state Nebraska fans depended on local hacks for ‘Husker coverage? Just because there are just as many Nebraska fans as there are MU, KU, and KSU fans in places like St. Louis and KC, it’s not like the print or radio markets are relevant.

Television and online is where it’s at, and while these media hacks talk tough now, ratings decline in an era of overall declination of worth for your format means someone is getting a pink slip.

Have fun in the MWC in a couple of years haha!

It’s hard to watch the venom coming out over this. I am a Nebraska fan, but the responses I have heard are all jealousy related, and that surprised me.
what is clear is they made the correct move, the Big XII is very unstable and will implode within four years, A&M is already threatening if the promised $$$$ does not come in.
My prediction is Kansas get invited to Big10 after Notre Dame is finalized one way or the other. Maybe Missouri too.
One good thing about reduced coverage will be I will finally quit the progressively sucking KC Star.

    KU fans dominate KC Metro

If you think Nebraska has as many fans in KC as KU, then you obviously have never been or lived in the KC area. KU fans dominate the Metro area with some 81K + Alums, and has by far the largest following in the area. Nebraska has a decent following in KC, but no where near what KU has. Even MU has Nebraska beat in the KC area. I’m guessing Nebraska maybe only has 20K Alums tops living in the metro. Even KSU has more than that. And thier fanbase is no where near what KU and MU has in the area.

  22. BigBluePappy says:

    St. Louis fanbase
I’m not as familiar with St. Louis. But I would imagine MU has KU and Nebraska beat fanwise. STL is a Missouri market so MU has a advantage over every school in america in that market. Much the way KU has a strong hold on KC. There’s a large KU following in STL, and I’m sure the same can be said about NU. But too assume Nebraska has more fans in KC and STL than KU and MU is a bit delusional considering both towns are KU and MU’s backyards. KU with KC more so than STL.
