Well, one thing that Kansas and Missouri fans have in common now is the equal feeling of needing to vomit all over themselves. Fuck it. When you really thought about it of course the big boys in football were going to jettison everyone one day and take their ball and go home. They don’t want to get beat by Boise State or Utah or BYU or anyone that doesn’t devote their entire life to paying for their football season tickets each year. From a KU perspective, this couldn’t have come at a worse time after the boost in fund raising and the additions after the NC and orange bowl. What the hell do you do now? One question to Sharif…why would KU have to give up on football to go to the Big East? He does know that only 8 teams play football in the big East now right? Rutgers and Syracuse are potential targets for the Big 10 but who the hell knows with them. Let’s add Missouri and Kansas to the Big East, they can drop a few of their non-football playing teams…10 team football league and 16 team basketball league.

With the assumption that the Big East wouldn’t kick any teams out…
Add KU, KSU, Missouri and Memphis
This accomplishes three things
1) Your football playing schools increases in quality and number to 12
2) You are protecting the viability of your conference from further Big 10 acquisitions. Now if Notre Dame, Rutgers, Syracuse or Pitt goes, you play on without the conference itself being torn apart.
3) Allows Notre Dame to remain independent
Now, if they wouldn’t boot anyone, this would be a 20-team basketball league. Sounds ridiculous but if you split it down the middle you have two 10 team leagues that aren’t as bad as you might think geographically.

Ptomely is right about KC, but not St. Louis. Mizzou is the predominant team in St. Louis, with about a third of the interest going to Illinois. That also fairly approximates the relative population on the Missouri and Illinois sides of the river (although they’ve grown in recent years, Madison and St. Clair Counties in Illinois are no match for Johnson and Wyandotte in Kansas in population or wealth).

And the last time I checked, Missouri has 30 football wins in the last three years. Not elite level, but far from mediocre.
