Your advocacy of an “open borders” policy at the federal level (“even illegal immigration is like fuel for our economy”) is just as much out of the mainstream of American opinion as a lot of the right-wing spew one hears from Stigall. Frankly, many Independents have little place for the viewpoints of either of you.

Take away the illegals and legals (I don’t
know the numbers) and basically you have to
shut down some major industries.
Hospitality/construction/major growers/
agriculture/food processing/restaurants not to mention many other industries alive because of that labor market. Hell…you’d have to shut down the entire nation without their labor.
But thats not what that law was intended to
do. It was intended to further erode the rights
of americans (both legal and illegal) by giving
law enforcement the right to hassle people
with probable cause.
Lets be honest. The police will do what htye
want. Look brown..they will come over and ask
for your papers. And if they smell alcohol…
see something suspicious etc. they can go from
there and arrest these people.
Miranda rights were just changed (if you read
the supreme court ruling) and now you have to
ask for some of those rights or you don’t
get them.
So for all those tea baggers who are so proud
of this you better be careful what you
praise. Your rights are being taken away.
And whats next? Guns! And it’s not the liberals
who will do it!
Been to phoenix 3 times this year…besides the
fact that the area is a mess…and the illegals
are all over the place…and they are taking
up funds that should be going to people lawfully
in this nation its doing okay.
Let them build their wall…put mines across the
border or do whatever they think they need.
Its just another way the politicians use us
americans to rip us off by making up these
phony problems.
The reason the nation is in the mess it is
isnt because of illegal aliens in arizona
or texas or california.

What is American about immigration is it has always been tempered by racism and hate. No Catholics, no Irish, no Eastern Europeans, no Italians.
Mojhawk has it right. What is happening along the US-Mexico border is something we cannot imagine. Pirates now capture American fisherman on a lake bordering the two countries with no effort by Mexico to stop it (and out officials following the rule of law and not pursuing pirates into Mexico).
The Arizona law is the culmination of frustration of the citizens of Arizona with the federal government not doing their jobs.
Chiefs of police have expressed concern over not only alienating a community they have trouble communicating and serving but also wonder where is the money to enforce this law going to come.
One aspect of the story which is seldom told is many (most?) of the illegals are Indians. The Spanish stole Mexico from the Indians the same as the USA. Their home ranged throughout the soutwest USA and northeast Mexico.
In reality it is the white man in both countries is declaring war on the brown men and women.
Perhaps we should adopt Mexico’s immigration policy – no citizenship until you have lived here for 25-years.

You seem to be down on Stigall, as you should
be, but for all the wrong reasons.
We need a fence to meter the incoming, and comprehensive immigration reform, and a way to get our industrial jobs back.
Why did we lose them? Because we priced ourselves out of the world marketplaces. First start, is to whack the cost of worker health care by about 2/3rds.
Second, demand China float its currency and quit trying to be the world’s cop…an unappreciative world. Some trade restrictions and tariffs wouldn’t hurt. Yup, some serious import taxes.
Third is to do campaign finance reform which is bleeding us and is responsible for a huge number of money-motivated bad laws. That in itself would do wonders to keep us from being ripped off by the financial institutions, health care, defense and a kazillion kinds of pork.
And fourth is NOT to give those bought and paid for the time of day. Like liar Liz Cheney, queen of Sunday talk disinformation.

More importantly, why is the city council of Kansas City taking a stand against Arizona law, when we cant take care of our own business? As for the diversity of Northeast, laughable at best. You have major blight, prostitution, not to mention its probably second only to KCK as this citys major distribution point for drug distribution. The majority of Lations nationwide support the Arizona bill which is the FEDERAL LAW. The cost of illegals in this country far outweighs the benefits dollar versus dollar.
Stigall looks too much like James Carville for me to trust. His ppm numbers are in the tank. The only reason people listen to him is that in the morning he may be the most entertaining person on radio if you’re too old for Johnny Dare and don’t have satellite

I hate Chris Stigall. There are maybe three people in this world who I truly dislike, and he makes that list. He’s an idiot with a microphone, but what really makes him dangerous is he does not seem to know that he is an idiot.
That said, these three words from the authors post “talk radio (retard)” are as bigoted, perhaps more so, than anything Stigall has said. You seem to feel you can single out and belittle that group in your attempt criticize someone you believe has singled out and belittled another group.
I get the feeling if someone were to post that your column were as stupid as a bunch of black people or that you seem to work about as hard as a bunch of Mexicans, you would be all over them. It’s too bad you don’t have the same passion for protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

Your comments about the positive impact of illegals to our economy is laughable and rudimentary at best. What about the impact of illegals flooding our health care system (using emergency rooms as doctor’s offices) and on our schools (overcrowded facilities, overworked teachers)and the economic costs associated with those? While, we may have seen some short term economic increases in the 90’s, the long term consequences will be anything but postive and far off-set the economic bump we received. And, who’s is going to bear the burdon of those sky-rockets costs and the consequences of those failing systems in the future? Yup, good ole tax-paying Americans. That’s why there is an uproar against illegal immigration in this country and rightfully so!

I have yet to hear anybody point out the fact that indiviuals who are against the unlawful entrance to the county are racists, bigoets, facists, t-baggers, etc. It’s about time this country has some political correctness in it.
