    hey…next thing you know they ask you for
    your “papers”…they harass your customers…
    they wait outside your store for people to
    leave…they stand outside your store so people
    avoid it…they set up roadblocks and
    do searches of all your customers who probably
    are carrying some funny tobacco…they
    chase off your customers…and all this for
    Hey buddy…pay the fine. The police officer
    is going to get you…don’t offend them…
    theyu will make your life miserble…
    put that officers picture in your window and
    yo’ll really have problems…get over it.

    Rules are Rules
    that sucks. Maybe you should go to the city council and ask them to remove the 1-hour parking restriction if the area isn’t busy.

    But if you parked over an hour, you parked over an hour. I’ve received tickets for even more unreasonable things. Pay it. Or fight it in court. But don’t think you should be an exception.

    They broke the law. Plain and simple. The reason he got the ticket and not the car was because he attempted to move the car therefore becoming the user of the car.

    They could not catch the 72 Y.O. guy from Shawnee that broke out my windows 5 times over 6 months but they have plenty of time to write trafic tickets.

    I confess. U know how at yellowstone bears will break into your car seeking food. Same applies to me. Dan you shouldn’t of left the fries on the floor.

    Well… my records request from the city of Merriam is here. I asked how many one hour plus parking tickets have been issued in the 4 spots in front of KC Strings and GuitarLamp.com. Remember, My parents and I have witnessed (from the other side of Merriam Drive – Total Comfort Htg & Clg – BIG Windows) that several times Merriam police officers have went in to Strings and asked peeps to move to avoid a parking ticket.

    In my case, I walked out of Total Comfort to move the car for my friend when I saw the cop pull up. He still issued me a ticket.

    Here are the amount of one hour plus parking written in those parking spots from years past:
    2005 = 0
    2006 = 0
    2007 = 0
    2008 = 0
    2009 = 0

    I think that there is some political profiling going on here in Downtown Merriam KS.

  9. Anonymous says:

    If there are only four, one-hour spots on an otherwise desserted street, why park in the restricted ones? Maybe no tickets were issued because everyone else can read and obey the law.

    One more time… My parents and I have witnessed (from the other side of Merriam Drive

    Hearne, why do you have a story about Dan Leap at least once a month? Guess Roger the Plumber was out of town.

  12. Anonymous says:

    Hearne – Your provoked stories about local losers who think they are above the law are pathetic. It

    I agree with Jojo that you could be heading for a war of sorts but I can see how you would be steaming mad. If it makes you feel better go ahead and do it. I think if you took this to court a judge would definitely see how insane this ticket is and dismiss it. I say fight it.

    I am surprised you are making a big deal of this! Do you really want the people you

    I agree with Bob and Taylor. Complaining about the fine of the ticket and the paking sign that he voted on. Give everyone else the ticket but not me cause the law does not apply to me. Go Merriam PD!!!!!!

  18. Anonymous says:

    Who requested these spots to be 1 hour parking?

  19. Anonymous says:

    The somewhat obvious solution is the signs should have posted hours and days. I seriously doubt the intention was to enforce one hour parking in ultra sleepy downtown Merriam was the intention.

  20. Anonymous says:

    Hearne, a parking ticket? Your really have lost relevance. What about the other side of the story? Did you talk to the PO? Do you know that Leap used is position as a City Councilman to get the sign?

  21. Anonymous says:

    KC Strings wanted the timed parking… Not me! As far as I knew… the one hour time limit was never enforced as shown above in city records. Until now!

  22. Anonymous says:

    You better work on your record checking ability Mr. City Counilman! There were 8 in the above years you posted. Find your man card yet?

    Dan is such a cry baby. If he’s not whinning about his “friends” tickets; he’s crying over getting tickets for rooftop displays. He needs to get off city council if every time something related to the city happens to him he throws a freaking fit about it.

    Pay the fine, have your friends park in your back lot if they know they are going to be there longer then an hour. Man up, stop crying. Have your friend pay the fine if it was their car you were moving.

    Next election vote for the 1 hour parking to be removed or the parking to be ok longer than an hour after 4 on weekends and 6 or 7 during the week.

    The Guy Across The Street
    Hearne You really need to stop giving this cry baby loser all the publicity that you give him is he the only thing you have to write about? Man up mister city councilman and pay the ticket and stop your F^%#&*g whinning

    Really???? Hearne, at least try to pretend that you’re being fair here. What a hack journalist you are. Talk to the cop, talk to anyone besides the self important arrogant prick that says the law doesn’t apply to him. Research the claim of this being the first ticket issued in this location, rather than taking your’ friends word for it. Let’s face it this guy is your’ friend. You took his side and stayed on it. you write only favorably about him, and far more often than he deserves. Look up his website, this guy is a fame whore. To everyone else, VOTE the loser out before he trashes your’ city. I would also say, if you need heating or A/C work done DON’T USE TOTAL COMFORT!!!!!

    Hearne, Want the real story, ask me…

  27. Anonymous says:

    Hopefully, “The Cop” is officer Welscher. Doesn’t much matter though, Hearne is not interested in reporting whole stories or truth.

    The headline should read: Never on Sunday. Merriam Cop Hailed as City Hero, Sparks Window Tribute!
