I listened to 610 Saturday morning while the Chiefs made their 5th-round picks. My thought was that the crew, especially Fesco, was sorely in need of a Rachel Maddow “Talk Me Down” segment. Nobody bothered to mention that this year’s draft was only seven rounds, that there were going to be valuable players available as free agents and that there is still three months until training camp — which means three more months of wheeling-dealing by NFL GMs. It’s the type of half-cocked ranting, without any perspective, that indicates to me a talk-show hack. Fesco is pretty much a dim bulb, which is apparent most mornings, and Wright’s voice turns into a whine when excited. Not indicative of Grade A talent (maybe 610 should have been more active on the free agent market for hosts; they don’t stack up to the Chiefs’ draft picks).

As for the Chiefs’ draft itself, while I was surprised by their picks after Berry, it wasn’t hard to see what they were doing or how those players can help (McCluster came out of the blue, but when I started looking at the variety of ways the Chiefs could use him and recognized his big-play ability, I warmed to him quickly).

Relax. There’s a long time before camp and Pioli has stated quite firmly that the Chiefs are far from done.

I didn’t follow the draft all that closely but I did catch some of the local tv coverage and I agree on Haley’s appearance. Dude needs to be more professional. Most people don’t care as long as he produces but to this point he hasn’t produced and he looks like a vagrant.

Fescoe … “dim bulb” … that’s being nice. This guy is unlistenable.

    more b.s. from the chiefs.
    1. Does anyone think haleys going to really let
charlie run the offense. Probably not. This
is just a short layover for charlie til another
nfl head coaching job opens up.
    2. Romeo: romeo kept all those same assistant
coaches. Usually when a defensive coordinator
he likes his own guys. Did haley/pioli force
him to keepguys that were from the old worthless
    team except gary gibbs.
    3. Draft: I said this one year ago. The chiefs
are so bad at draft choices that they should have
just traded them all away for proven nfl players
with 2-3 years experience. We probably could have
gotten marshall for our 1 and 2 pickes. What do
    we get…unproven/unknown college players who
probably will have never seen quicker most
talented players than they’ll soon see in the
nfl. Cut the b.s. pioli…you and the rest of
your clowns can’t judege talent so trade those
drafts picks away and lets get palyers who
    have seen real nfl action.
    4. Romeo: this guy too is just hanging for
another nfl head coching job to open. We’ve
seen that noone wants to play/work for haley.
They werent lined up to hire charlie and
    romeo…what does that tell you?
    5. Cassell: i think the offensie line is
improving. With 3 running backs we should
really confuse the opposition as to who
hs the ball. Put all 3 backs in the game…
one less receiver on the line and lets run
the ball 60% of the time.
    6. Arrowhead: great…what will monday night
show as the great new “arrowhead”? How about
clips of the new improved toilets. Maybe the
video of wider concourses with more junk food
for the kc fans to get fatter. I got it…
why not show the administrative offices for
the top brass…nothing looks better than
spanking new officexs for a bunch of guys who
re like the keystone cops. When they showed
jerrys place in dallas it was like a vegas
grand opening. What do the chiefs show the world
that’s improved in their 500 million dollar
    tax payer rip off.
    7. Pioli: I think the chiefs improve this
year to 6-10/7-9. But we’ve learned that just
because a guy works around successful people doesnt mean they’ll be successful.
Dayton moore was around shueholz and we’ve seen
how well that’s worked out. Pioli was around
several super bowl teams but it doesn’t mean they are worth anything on their own.
    8. Royals: oh boy…3 errors in a game…
but they still win one game against twins.
For some odd reason i have this feeling that
this team is going to get a lucky break (they
haven’t had one for 10 years) and their offense
    really gets hot…starters get a few breaks…
and their relievers hang on to saave some games.
Don’t count them out. The bad weather this weekend hurt the crowds but there’s just something bout this team that tells me thatmaybe
this might be a big year for them. No playoffs
    but the team improves dramatically.
    9. The trolley run was this weekend…heck..
i thought it was 2 weeks ago friday down on the
plaza. Seems there were more runners thru the
plaza that friday night than at the torlley run.

I like McCluster…he is a lotto pick that could pay off. Nothing energizes the OL more than quality skill guys.
Who knows what season will bring…Scott Todd in love with SEC…seems to easy ..path of least resistance.
    Hype machine in full gear.
jojo agree with you on getting proven guys.

I was right on Berry, said it on this blog last week BEFORE draft. This year Pioli and Todd work on offense, protect their q.b. make him feel strong and have confidence, they will bring in another offensive lineman and buy another strong reciever, given that they will have a very good offense that has ‘play makers’ for the first time since 03. Next year they work hard on defense. You have no d lineman that matters and the worst linebackers in the league at this time, yes that includes D.J. he is a six year failed project, not a playmaker, that last game against Denver isn’t enough for his first round pick and five years starting. Maybe he steps up this year. Chiefs 7-9 maybe 8-8 slight shot at 9-7…poor divsion gives us hope and light sched.
    Next year playoffs.

The draft was pretty milquetoast and uninspiring. The best Whitlock could come up with is that all the picks have “character”. I’m not looking for a baby sitter. I hope these guys can go Jekyll and Hyde and turn into stone cold thugs when the ball is snapped. The NFL is like prison. Only the strong survive and thrive.

Eric Berry as rookie of the year is a bit of a stretch. He’s playing for the Chiefs without a lot of support on defense.

I still don’t understand what the Pioli/Haley plan is. It seems more stream of consciousness than anything else. I still think there is going to be a power struggle inside the Romeo-Charlie-Todd triumvirate. It’s just human nature when you get three strong egos together like that.

I still have them at 6-10 and no better than 8-8. You can always catch lightning in a bottle but I don’t see it happening with this crew. I’m thinking that we’re looking at 3 to 5 years before we get back to the Martyball days where 10+ wins are the norm.

I am convinced that any one of “40 guys off the street” could have done a better job at the NFL draft than the Chiefs have in the past decade — including this past week. Junior Siavii? Dexter McCluster? I rest my case.

P.S. Haley’s slovenly appearance just adds to the impression that he’s a jerk.

Draft Grades: Bucs give contenders some competition for honor roll

    April 24, 2010
    By Pete Prisco
    CBSSports.com Senior Writer

    Kansas City Chiefs

Best pick: Third-round tight end Tony Moeaki has a ton of talent, but never lived up to it at Iowa. I say he does in the NFL.

Questionable move: Taking a safety fifth overall is always a risk. They did that with Eric Berry. He’s good, but safety isn’t a value position.

Third-day gem: Fifth-round safety Kendrick Lewis is an aggressive player who led Mississippi in tackles for two years.

Analysis: I wasn’t as thrilled with their draft as some others. I think Berry will be good, but that’s high. Dexter McCluster and Javier Arenas are questionable moves as second-round picks.

    Grade: C-

later this was his grade for the Raiders.

    Oakland Raiders

Best pick: I really like second-round pick Lamarr Houston. This former running back will be a dominant defensive tackle.

Questionable move: Taking raw tackle Jared Veldheer in the third round. He has ability, but he played at Hillsdale.

Third-day gem: Fifth-round pick Walter McFadden was a quality corner who made a lot of plays in a good conference at Auburn.

Analysis: They got Rolando McClain in the first round and Houston in the second round. That’s two quality players. They also traded for quarterback Jason Campbell, which I like. The Raiders did a nice job.

    Grade: A

With Jason Campbell at QB the Raiders might be the division winner in 2011, not KC.

I wouldn’t call Bill Belichick a real fashion forward kind of guy either but I’d take him right now. Weak argument on Haley’s appearance. Who gives a shit. In fact I’d venture to guess most coaches are pretty slovenly. I’ll judge Haley by what he does with this team, which isn’t much thus far, and not on his appearance.

Put your Nostradamus clothes away and stick your crystal meth balls back in the closet. The draft is like a wedding reception. Lots of love. Hugs and kisses all around. The honeymoon is gonna be over by the second Sunday in October.

On paper the Chiefs look better. I don’t think it’s going to show on the field. If they hit 6-10 it’s a moral victory.

When this team sees the playoffs again it will be without Cassel and Haley.

I tend to agree. I’ve never been sold on Cassel. Makes me wonder what will happen next year with a solid incoming class of QBs

Belichick wins, therefore his appearance is “eccentric genius.” Haley loses, therefore his appearance is “clueless idiot.”

The only “good” unit in our division is the San Diego offense. This division is weak and we shouldn’t accept being shitty anymore bc personnel wise we’re not much worse than ANY team in this division.

*Glazer picked Berry…wow that was a bold prediction!
*The new guy on KCTV 5 is terrible. I gave it some time before I commented. But he is bad. Could he speak English and not Ghetto. And no I’m not racist. I enjoyed William Jackson. Our draft picks have a better command of the English language then he does.
*What happened to the new leaf Jojo was suppose to turn over. Sad to see he has reverted to his old self.
