The reason that alot of things in KC suck is because the media has been too willing to support the status quo. Schools, Royals, Chiefs, Union Station, TIF, you name it. No reason there should not be more outcry for some regime change with the Royals and finding out why the Hunt apple fell so far from the tree. The media is supposed to speak for the people, not to the people. We have no real advocates for the people in our print or electronic media. The media’s job is to break balls, not suck them.

Don’t neglect the balls is always sound advice.

I thought the officiating was very good in tourney.
17 lead changes in Final….sheesh what do you want?
Miley Cyrus could sing 1 shining moment and I would be OK with it.

Greg, she sounded awful. Screeching. And they kept showing her INSTEAD of compelling video.

GH: I’ll agree that the multiple shots of Hudson were unnecessary. This isn’t supposed to be a music video. Years ago, when ESPN had the early-round games, I think I remmeber they did a music collage every night of the day’s highlights.

    Well put, smartman.

Who makes it a point in their NCAA college basketball season to watch a video clip montage overlaid with somebody singing an insipid song? I’d be embarassed to say I watched it, much less that I was looking forward to it.

We are indeed a pussified country, and Nate Bukaty is our Kansas City Pussy Posterchild.

I’m with you and JHud, Greg. I was prepared to hate her, but her singing of “One Shining Moment” won me over. Not her fault they showed her rather than better action clips.

P.S. At least they included KU’s crestfallen (and embarrassing) Elijah Johnson in the video! You knew they would …

I betcha the Bulter version of “One Shining Moment” would’ve been better.

Alas… they had to play the game first.

How many years have they used this song?

    They need a new one.

Greg, I want espn to get the tourney. Between ABC, epsn/2/u they could show 4 games simultaneously, all in HD. That would rock.

GH: I heard today that AT&T television is providing up to four Masters channels this week for their subscribers? I love that these cable/sat providers are all pushing each other to deliver more to the viewer. The unemployed have never had better television to graze on.

One Shining Moment failed because they made it into a music video and barely even highlighted the NC game. It’s totally lame but I’ll never forget 2008’s One Shining Moment. KU’s video was awesome with a bunch of clips of the Hawks, BRush’s oop of the glass…even Self on his knees after Richards missed that three in the Davidson game. It told a story unlike this year. The shot that always gets me in KU’s OSM is towards the end where they toss the ball up and the camera pans out…that is a badass shot! Love it. One Shining Moment sucks when it ain’t celebrating your team. Memory refresher:

I’d rather watch JoJo dance the Charleston with Truman the Tiger than watch KU’s OSM video.

Here’s a funny video that sums up MOST, not all, but most of the KU fans in this town….

dp-who would you say had a better season: KU or KSU?

  17. Anonymous says:

    jjskck
The media is too tough on the Royals? Impossible. They’re just saying what everyone in KC is thinking.

MrOlathe: depends on what you mean. KU had a better season; KSU’s fans are far more satisfied with their season.

  18. Anonymous says:

    dp
MrOlathe- I’d have to say K-State. Just based off of expectations coming in to the year.

KU was 3-0 against K-State and won both Big XII titles, but this was the team that number 1 most of the year and was bringing another title back to Lawrence. The team with two preseason All Americans and X coming in to boot. The team everybody picked to win it all as the number 1 overall seed. Nobody outside the KU kingdom will remember anything about this KU team except the Northern Iowa game.

I think most K-State fans would have told you that you were crazy if you would have told them they’d finish second in the league and the Big XII tourney, be ranked in the top 10 most of the year and make an elite 8…not to mention have our ‘high school coach’ become a national media darling and win one of the most unforgettable NCAA games in the last 25 years.

That being said, I’ll be the first to say it will be interesting to see what Frank and guys can do next year when they aren’t sneaking up on people.

  19. Anonymous says:

    MrOlathe
dp-I would agree with you that KSU exceeded expectations and KU did not reach expectations. But to say that KSU had a better year is crazy. KU won the league and the league tournament. You don’t hang banners for 2nd place.

Just sell the damned team. When the Royals need EVERYTHING to go perfectly in order to win 70 games, there is simply no point.
Sell them, move them, fold them – either compete or don’t bother. If Rick Ankiel is your No. 4 hitter on opening day, you do not belong in the MLB.
Bob Davis’ nasal tone is even more annoying than the KC bullpen.

  21. Anonymous says:

    Cliffy
Davies is absolutely the worst. He’s like my elderly uncle who can’t hear … he’s yelling at you all the time. The guy does not have an “I’m in the same room with you” voice. Plus, he doesn’t know much about baseball.

  22. Anonymous says:

    Stevo
Don’t agree at all. Bob Davis is about the best anyone could be for the Royals. He tries to get excited and if they ever actually make plays he always has great calls. Way better than Denny on the radio or Lefebrveadsfd however you spell his name on TV. He might be a tad loud and grating at times but overall I think he’s very good and would be great if the team on the field gave him something…anything to work with.

  23. Anonymous says:

    Paperwad
Bob Davis is awful on baseball, even worse calling basketball, when he never tells you where the damn ball is on the court or where a shot was from. He’s terrible!

-Anyone in a public position (state employee) who poses for a photo with a cigar is officially an a-hole.
-He has been jacking with Allen Fieldhouse since the day he showed up.
-I know some people in the established Lawrence KU set and the word among the KU Blue Bloods is that they cannot stand Lew.
-They could lose scholarships over this. THEY HOCKED THEIR OWN TICKETS for maximum profits.
-I guarantee you that the ADs at UCLA, Michigan, Ohio State, to name a few— would not give a crap about Joe College selling prank shirts.

Have you ever seen a more disinterested interviewee than Ankiel. Haha this dude has the longest swing i’ve ever seen but he got it done. Man this team is bad but good seeing Hochevar pitch a gem.

Dave Owen almost cost us that run in the 11th. This guy is going to be a nightmare all season.

I almost fell Off the Couch when I saw Bloomquist say screw the third base coach and just take off. It’s like he either sends or goes, then just freezes and watches what happens. He blew it on Kendall rounding second too. That was the one that really could have cost them.

  31. Anonymous says:

    jjskck
Holding him at third was the right call–Bloomquist was the winning run with no outs; getting pegged at the plate would have been devastating. Bloomquist just read the misplay correctly and scored. No coaching necessary.
