Pretty vanilla move in my opinion. I guess now I’ll just change the station at a different time of day? Too bad 610 didn’t try to make a bigger splash here. I think a lot of people are dying for somebody who can challenge KK but this is not the answer…at all.

I always find it kind of weird when Wright addresses the competition and claims some sort of ongoing battle. While at the same time, 810 treats them as nothing more than a nuissance. While both approaches are disingenuous to a point, at least the second carries with it a little dignity.

Why don’t you throw your hat in the ring at 610? Again, I’m completely unaware if bridges are burned or whatever but if you could translate your wit on here to the radio, I’d listen. It’s going to be very tough for Wright to fly solo. Although KK is the star, he has plenty of help on his show, and Wright will need the same. I’m curious as to who 610 will find to be a sustaining part of Wright’s crew.

Jojo’s take on this radio thing….
1. Sports talk is getting old. If you listen to
the advertisers there are few new ones. In other
words no new cash coming in. After the ncaa
tourney and that all 3 schools in the area made
it theres now little to talk about. Listen to
kkk beg for callers. The action is old. So
now for the next few weeks they try to gin up
the machine and talk about royals and the
draft. BFD. Then listen to the callers calling
in. Are those the type of people advertisers
are looking for? I’ll get to that later.
2. Money: whb selling spots for about $90…
610 is going for $35…that tells you where the
race is. But 610 is out to break even possibly
make a little money. It costs almost nothing to
run unlike whb which has all stars on the air…
all star people calling in and in studio so whb
does have a big nut to crack. Plus they have to
pay off their note for buying the station.
3. Sports talk in this town is dull. Theres
really nothing you can’t get on espn nationally
and locally who is caring bout kk’s b.s. about
every little theft at a college. Noone.
The wild card is this. If the royals get hot
and if they really come out of the gate fast
and stay competitive for the seaons (please
god) then 610 explodes. Remember…when people
listen to a game at night the first thing on the
radio in the morning is 610. Huge…ask the
card station in st. louis.
So the fact is that whb needs cash to keep
running…610 is just a hnger on because kmbz
will have so much money rolling in between now
and novermber due to the new supreme court
rulling on political advertsing…the rock cong continues to make huge bucks…kudl is coming
on and essentially 610 is a way to carvbe out a
niche without a big investment and big overhead.
A sure bet (if you are a bettor) is to buy some
entercom stock. It was under $1.00…recentlyu
$11…and its going upi to probably $17-$18…
so the sports talk world will do well as the
economy improves and people have money to spend
and advertisers come out of their slump.
Stevo…some of hall’sstuff is brilliant. I
do enjoy commenting and educating some of the
lesser educated readers about sports and life.
Hall would be huge on the radio…and one thing
he does tell US he has…IS A FACE FOR RADIO.

The only semi-interesting thing to watch is what will fall first, 610’s afternoon ratings or interest in Greg’s columns if he keeps writing about Wright and 610.

Yes Hall has a full time day job. Has he said how he did in the race Saturday? Greg’s tenure in radio was very humor related. Kind of irreverent. Not sure how it would go over with heavy sports listeners. I would think he would need a side kick. Greg knows how unstable media is right now and he has a great job. So my guess is other then a weekend thing he would have no interest in radio.

The only thing that would save 610 is Whitlock. He’s a name that would get people to listen. His show on 610 and 810 was good. I think they should of got him in stead of quitting and promoted Wright.
