Two weeks ago Saturday night we had takeout and could not get a parking space. All of my friends in Kansas City said the KU game killed them along with the snow but Strouds had a line out the door, in the snow!
Screw all the “Kansas City” fans who were pissed when Strouds moved, their own city goverment ran Strouds out. The new location has EXACTLY the sae chicken and al of the sides etc…and tastes even better in KANSAS! Get over it Kansas City, you locs this iconic chicken joint and Kansas gained a classic. The way I see it, just like KU vs MU, you assholes lose again! Maybe you should go to the power and Light Distric and eat, they stole your tax money to build it and there ain’t one good joint. I hope all Kansas City restaurants leave and come to Kansas where we appreciate them and support.

OK OK OK … with that said ….. We have just started cooking our own pan fried chicken. As I said above, Strouds is good, but it is a hassle due to crowds ( YES STILL)( I have no idea why it was even said that about crowds etc etc ) ANYWAY… I am perfecting our recipe as we speak today. We currently have chicken breast prepping ( takes 24-36 hours) but if anyone is interested I will share the secrets. We have gone through 5-6 batches in the last month, and I think “Tonights the night”.
We got on this kick becasue the local markets have been selling chicken breast meat for very low prices ( currently bone in breasts are only 88 cents/pound at hyvee).
There are 4 or 5 lil tricks we have learned. If anyone wants to hear the recipe tricks, just ask.

Over the past few years we have all heard of someones family who has been affected by the economy. Established restaurants have closed their doors many new start ups with great ideas just had bad economical timing.
The rising costs of everything but our wages. Not going to go political on you. Just wanted to put a thought out there. Do you suppose that Stroud’s… even with their excellent reputation, the many awards they have received (not to mention James Beard) have been affected by the economy at all? I don’t think they have been granted immunity. Do you go out to dinner as often as you did before the economic crisis?
Do you suppose that your neighbors do? How about at work do you have all the perks you used to? Like company dinners, catered lunches…I leave with the hope that if we are able, we will shop and support locally owned small businesses.
