    BRAVO KSU!!!
    Very nice job.

The zebras tried to screw you(this game never should have had one overtime) but you overcame that noncall ( would have only ben a 2 pt shot) and KSU took care of business.

Those made free throws towards the end of the game were very impressive.

encore encore YOU CAN DO IT to Butler too.

What is it about Gus Johnson and games like K-State vs. Xavier? It is unbelievable how he is always on the call for the best game of the tournament. As I texted to several friends, “This is a CLASSIC Gus Johnson game.”

‘Cats vs. ‘Dogs on Saturday. A battle as old as time itself.

GH: What is the deal… locker rooms in SLC? …… Unpainted ….. a few shop-class wooden lockers? Is the economy that bad in Utah?

    LOL, might be a Morman thing ; ) ….

and I was sure that you could NOT write this without taking some type of jab at KU, only question is how you would do it ….. ; )

    Viola….

GH: Pullen is coming back next season and he just might be the most celebrated player in the state of Kansas

CONGRATS K State on winning an epic. I’m not so sold like everyone else about the refs blowing it. Did you watch that game? You probably could have stabbed a guy in that one and they’d play on. KSU got a gift on that steal late in regulation where they called the white Xavier post player. They hadn’t called that the whole game.
As Pullen goes, so will KSU. KSU fans you need to freaking buy in and get on his back! All I’ve heard this whole week is how you want to enjoy the ride. SCREW THAT! Go win the damn thing. Chances like this don’t come along every day. If someone told me Curtis Kelly would have 21 pts I would have thought KSU would win by 15. Big and IMPORTANT game for him. For KSU to win it all he needs to play exactly like that. No less.
I wish KU was in the tourney still and we could be looking forward to a all Kansas final four. That would be so cool…and I’d be lying if I said I rooted for KSU tonight…I just couldn’t. But man what a team, what a performance when everything was on the line. Congratulations Wildcats! If you can make it to the NC game and play Duke or Kentucky, I promise I’ll lose my voice cheering for you!
How good is Gus Johnson? It’s a shame we only get exposed to the master of madness for three weeks a year. GJ was born to call NCAA tournament games and he shines like the sun in these tense tourney games because he loses his shit…just like the rest of us! If you want to hear some more of Gus at his best, check out UCLA’s final minute upset of Gonzaga (when Adam Morrison started sobbing with time left on the clock)or Davidson’s final three for the win vs. KU that missed in ’08. I’m about 99% sure he does Pac 10 ball during the regular season but if the Big 12 wanted the best, I guarantee he’s not making as much as Brent Musberger. Seriously think about the excitement and pure fun he injected into that game compared with what we get from Knight and Musberger all year.
Sorry about the ramblings but I can’t sleep after that jewel. Congrats Cats and good luck in the Elite 8 and beyond!

: ) It is all good.

I would love to see KSU win the National Title, that would be kewl for them, and ( although I doubt it)(looking at dickhead un-vital) maybe stfu some of the east coast biased a-holes.

off the cuff, I have not seen a coach(Martin) so ballistic since Ditka.

It would be funny if someone had the footage and the talent to mash up some Ditka/Matin screaming, vein popping video.

I always made fun that Iron Mike that his blood pressure was going to scream so loud and hard that he was going to blow his heart through his chest ala “Alien” …. just a thought ; )

I wish the best for KSU.

    PS
BIG PROPS to Dexter, I think he has the bracket contest wrapped up.

I am just happy to see BIG DOG(whomever he/she is) come up strong in the ranks. He/she was picking too well to cellar dewll.

K State also locked up the preseason #1 in the Big 12 with this win tonight. It’s crazy how perceptions change on one or two shots in a game. If they didn’t pull it out, we’d be saying they had a ton of heart. Now they look like a team of destiny. KSU burst onto the national scene tonight. How many potential recruits saw this game? They were already getting their fair share of run nationally thanks to their magnetic coach…but this game opened eyes so wide that even east coasters won’t soon forget there’s two teams in Kansas. I think that’s wonderful. I just wish my team was still in the tourney to bring the Cats back down to reality. Greg I bet the Xavier coach would take you up on that home and away series with KSU.

The only downside to this incredible game is that KK will be even more insufferable to listen to on Friday than he has all week.

Although Gus Johnson did a good job with the description, his shouting was annoying. Yes, it was a great game with big moments and, no, I wouldn’t want Denny Matthews’ ho-hum, blase style, but Johnson was peaking the volume into the red so much that it was producing distortion — and frequently. He needs to learn how to display excitement through vocal modulation instead of mere volume. I would have much preferred Kevin Harlan on the mike.

BRILLIANT GAME! Definitely one of my Top 10 games of all time. Props to both teams for slugging it out until the end. Nobody choked, everybody kept their poise and played with a maturity beyond their years.

Butler over Syracuse, more white kids slaying ballers. I love it. Even the preppy’s from Cornell gave Kentucky a better game then I expected.

Watched a bit of In The Paint with Frank and Soren. Soren, you need to to lose some weight, (I know the camera adds 20/lbs), and do something so you don’t look so gay. You’re a heart attack or TIA just waiting to happen. As annoying of a prick as you are at times you’re too talented to be calling games between the Saints and the Devils.

GH, KState fouling on the 3 after the missed call was bad execution, not bad coaching. And you can’t call-out Martin for that and not call out Mack for allowing Pullen to go largely unguarded on his 3’s. Pullen was the only go-to guy in Purple from beyond the arc. How was he left open?

    ___

GH: Fatigue. X has no bench and was running on fumes in the two OTs. Pullen might be the most in-shape baller in the tourney. He is a physical specimen. X

Talk about a Gus Johnson special….

Yeah, Frank told them to foul when the Xavier guy got to half court, Denis just didn’t foul hard enough, i.e. Memphis against KU before Chalmers hit. Anyway, who cares really?! Greatest game the Cats have played…at least in my lifetime. Can’t take Butler lightly, they may look like a bunch of middle school kids, but they execute and they’ll be ready.

Dexter has Kentucky winning in the pool, correct? I can’t check at work….blocked. BS, I know. Haha.

  16. Anonymous says:

Talking about bad coaching, why not commit the foul in the backcourt? Why does Frank tell Clemente to wait until he crosses the halfcourt line? THAT is bad coaching.

I screwed up royally. Walked into rays bar
in downtown chicago and to my dismay was
    innundated with obnoxious/disgusting/low
    rent xavier fans.
I was not wearing anything that read ku or
k state or mu…and sat quietly while these
people wnet nuts watching the game. Must
    have been 200 of them.
I once thought that xavier was a jesuit
    conservative school…but I learned otherwise
very quickly. They made the most rabid/
obnoxious ku-ksttate or mu fans look like
    nuns.
As the game ended…I got up…finished my
    final beer…and realized that cincinnatti
is a breeding ground for animals.
As I walked out I could only thinki how cool
it was for k state fans to see their team
make it to the elite 8. I remembered last year
when my tigers got there and the incredible fun me and the other 10 tiger fans in kc had
    during the tournament.
Frankie looked great and even the xavier
    fans/animals loved his expressions/gestures/
    and antic.
    go cats.
For those of you who think your schools rivals
are the worst fans you’ve seen…come to chicago and witness the most outrageous foul mouthed
    fans I’ve ever seen.
I’ve been to the oakland raider stadium…ive
    been to fenway/yankee/cubbie/…I’ve been to
the ghetto stadiums in miami/but no fans are
    worse than these.
go cats…I’ll be cheering ya from chicago
on saturday….how sweet it is aint it!

Jack Harry can’t figure out how his typewriter fits into the internets anyway.

Get off Martin’s back. he outcoached Xavier’s Mack. Martin kept Pullen fresh so he could be clutch late, and he kept telling KSU to pound it inside, which ultimately worked. Xavier hit some dreamer 3s while well-guarded. They gave up too many fouls inside and didn’t pressure Clemente enough to tire him out.

Man, I agree with that! I want to root for K State really bad, but KK’s endless rants about them over the past few years have made it so I can’t hear the mention of K State without thinking of his constant sickening banter. That aside I was happy for them and I do wish them the best.

hyperbole Greg. That was a GREAT game last night, but not the best game ever. The 1992 Duke/Kentucky battle is still #1. The drama of that game was intense, defending champs, going for the Final 4, against a young upstart. 2 HoF coaches, NBA players everywhere, 2 of the top 5 programs all time…on and on.

    ___

GH: I cannot disagree that picking one great game — any great game — over another great game isn’t worthy of debate. I remember the Christian Laettner game well and the buzz it created — it was truly a classic. But for manic thrills and super-human, hit-your-head-on-the-ceiling individual plays — I’m going with last night’s drama.

What a game. I was exhausted, but I simply couldn’t turn the TV off. Clutch play after clutch play…I can’t count how many times I said “wow” during that one.

And on the “no call” – on the back side, the ref trailing the play could only see Clemente reach around Holloway’s back with one arm. On the front, there were two or three players between Holloway and the nearest ref. Clemente half-assed his foul attempt, and yes, he should have been instructed to foul before half court.

I think the only team I wouldn’t pick KSU to win against in this tourney is Kentucky. Ohio State? Please I’ll take KSU vs them any day. If they win tomorrow they’re going to play in the championship game. West Virginia will give them trouble and Kentucky would be the favorite against them. A NC run is just laying out there for them now…let’s see how they handle it.

Never, ever, ever has a NCAA tourney set up for a team the way this one has for KSU. North Texas, BYU, Xavier, Butler and Tennesee or Mich. St? My lord, Bill Self has to be vomiting in his mouth every time a games in on this side of the bracket. Let’s think objectively for a second…
    1. The only teams on KSU’s side of the bracket that were more athletic and posed a threat were KU and Syracuse.
    2. The only other teams in the tourney that pose the same threat are UK and West Virginia.
Frank, welcome to the big time because if you don’t make the NC game you have fallen short. Never again in your career will something this sweet fall into your lap. Anything less than a national runner-up for KSU is a disappointment.

KU lost a game by 2 points … ah anyway .. yadda yadda yadda, no logic or facts will stop your talk … so blab away….

But I will say this …
As someone pointed out today about Perkins getting all that money … That money sure was better spent than any fking money on the Royals or Chiefs in the LAST YWENT YEARS. When was the last time either KC team had a consistant run like my KU basketball team has.

    I do not talk crap.

This years KU team was a good team, but winning this tourney is hard as fk, but we won it in 2008, and that FAR MORE than ANY OTHER team in a 500 mile radius can say ….. but go ahead … homer talk all you want.

anyway .. I came back to quote a comment on the KC Star board.

Also don’t forget that the team that beat you in your wondrous, history making elite 8 season got beat by the team we lost to. No sir, final fours matter and that’s about all there is to it. KSU did not have a better season than KU. If they would have won today, the final four would have made up for no conference title, no conference tourney title and 0-3 vs KU. They played one classic against Xavier but it all means nothing now. Good run KSU, but you fell short and all your excusing it away means nothing. HUGE FAILURE!
