How can the NCAA muck around with something that works well and NOT go for the clear money grab that would result from a football playoff?

If these people are too stupid to see this, they shouldn’t be running the NCAA.

    “GH: NBC deserves high praise…”

    I think you mean CBS!

    ___

GH: Thanks, d. You’d think I could get three letters correct. I have made the fix above.

Greg, I actually remember the golden era of broadcasting when NBC had college hoops, it wasn’t this weekend though. It was CBS. Just trying to help!

    Greg,

I do believe CBS was the network carrying the games this past weekend. If you plan on watching NBC for the NCAA tourney next week, you could be disappointed in what you see on the tube. Maybe 30 years ago you would have been okay.

The Jayhawks are 12-3 versus Mizzou in the seven-year Bill Self era. MU

We’ve become too cynical for our own good.

Frank Martin was already making more money than he ever had in his life and they doubled his salary.

He’s figured out a way to recruit to Manhattan which is a challenge.

After the Ron Prince and related fiascoes, Martin seems to be a perfect match at State. Their styles are different, their game has nothing in common, but there’s a Jack Hartman feel about Frank Martin; he likes the school and he likes his chances.

shocking that Greg got confused on NBC and CBS. Maybe you should stick with what you do best….chomping on Kietzman’s sack

When you read about the coaches in the big
12 you get a feeling that they are a great
    group of men.
    Self: classy/fun/competitor…but a super guy.
    Anderson: underspoken/hard working/an over achiever/great positive attitude.
Martin: what needs to be said..this guy is
passionate about his team and his way in
    life. Doesn’t get any better.
Drew: From the ashes of the most scandalous
program ever in college ball..he has resurrected
the program above what anyone thought could happen.
BArnes: Say what you will…he was probably too
honest and thats getting him in trouble now.
He wanted to help his kids reach the highest
level of competition…and itvwas more important
to him than winning a title. MIsunderstood..
    probably…a man with a heart…probably.
It shows the class of this league when compared
to huggins/calipari/and the rest of the
carpetbaggers that have given themselves and
    their schools a bad name.
I hope KU trounces that p.o.s. calipari’s kentucky gangstas in the championship game.

Putting in the requisite amount of time being just a good, not great, college coach makes it impossible to put in the time required to be a good husband and father. You can buy your wife and kids all the stuff they want but it’s no substitute for being there instead of being on some ballers grandmas couch trying to figure out how to get grandma some health insurance and jobs for his posse without breaking recruiting violations. Hopefully he’ll keep his ego in check and not go Patino and let some waitress toss his salad.

Expanding the tournament would be your sign that the NCAA has gone Heidi Fleiss. Yeah, there’s more money to be had but none of the newbies will ever win the tourney. Let’s just give everybody a perfect attendance trophy so no feelings get hurt. Why not have some real balls and shrink the field to 32 teams and make it double elimination.

greg any comment on the story in the paper today saying 610 tied 810 in the middays? how can that be true? no one listens to rome and nick wright is unbearable. what gives?

    ___

GH: I never understood the relevance of midday radio ratings. How many people are really listening compared to AM & PM drive time? I guess it

Not to pile on, but I thought it was CBS. But you mentioned NBC twice.

I’ve seen a couple of those NFL behind-the-scenes shows (on TRU, I think) and as one who’s worked crew on live telecasts, I really appreciated how CBS juggled the action and coverage.

I’ve never quite liked how CBS has the monopoly on the NCAA tournament. Their hopping from game to game in the early rounds is both annoying and understandable.

“Syracuse leads the Illinois School for the Blind 88-3, so we’ll skip over to how the Little Sisters of the Poor have pushed Kentucky into overtime” is sure to generate outraged calls from ISB fans eager to see their team on national TV.

    Okay. Bad example.

    Still.

    ___

GH: I just screwed up. CBS is the network wothy of high praise for their decision to forego commercials in favor of delivering live baskeball. Bravo to the eye.

COTY is sometimes like the oscars it’s just your time. The field of 64 is perfect. I read somewhere the real reason 64 is perfect is the backet fits perfectly on one piece of paper for gambling. Be interesting to see if there is a match between the 64 field and backet pools. I bet its like a rocket going off. I agree go to football for more money, but I don’t think the NCAA controls (gets all the money) fottball like they do basketball.

Greg, hard to picture 12 siblings trying to watch NE football on a 19″ Zenith.
We are the generation of helicopter parents hoovering above our kids making sure they get to music lessons or soccer practice. They will find their own level…less resources in NOT better.
..capital is capital…doesn’t matter if you started with nothing or were born into it. What matters in my mind is what you do with it.

Saw a Magic Johnson/Larry Bird Doc. on HBO this weekend.. must watch stuff for all hoops fans.

    ___

GH: Not only did all my brothers and sisters fit in the living room to watch our one b/w Zenith, my dad and his posterior took up half the couch! The only place off limits to sit in that room was atop the cast-iron radiator. Remember those radiators that sat on raised

Nothing on the KU/MU game, Greg? Was the biggest local story on Saturday. Oh well.

Well I am eating my words. Martin will stay for now. I thought for sure he would be gone. This year has been a huge turning point for the Big 12 North. I love watching all of the North teams. Anderson, Self, and Martin are awesome coaches. I also think that Iowa State is going to be very tough in the near future. I love KU… but they better enjoy this year. Next year, they are going to take some lumps.

OP, of course idiotboy does not say anything about THE MIGHTY KANSAS JAYHAWKS trouncing moronU. Havent you been reading him, this idiot ONLY talks/types about the Jayhawks when they do not do as perfect as usual, he is an idiot, he is homer, he hates KU, he has mental issues, he is a hater of greatness, I wonder why?

    II)
The only reason anyone is talking about expanding the field is because those fkn homos down at UNC are NOT going to the big dance this year. The only way they would make it in is if they expand. Cant win? change the rules …. What a fkn joke. What a bunch of fkn idiots.

This will be the 20th year in a row that THE MIGHTY KANSAS JAYHAWKS MENS BASKETBALL TEAM has gone to the big dance.

Rainbow Man-I would have agreed with you a couple weeks ago until I really started to think about what KU has next year. Let’s assume worst possible scenario…in addition to Sherron graduating, Aldrich and Henry go pro, Brandon Knight, Josh Selby, Doron Lamb, the Euro Kanter kid and all other recruits except for the already signed Woolridge decide against KU.
    Starting Lineup:
    G Tyshawn
    G Elijah
    G/F Brady or Mario Little
    F Thomas Robinson or Markieff
    F/C Marcus or Jeff Withey
That doesn’t even count Releford, Tyrel Reed, CJ or Royce Woolridge.
Obviously there’s no SC or Cole on next year’s team but that is still a loaded, deep team with experience both in the starting lineup and coming off the bench. AND that’s assuming you don’t land the #1 or #2 PG in the nation in Knight or Selby…even though it looks like Selby is the only real chance. BS is the man. He knew he had to hit a homerun with the 2008 recruiting class after losing all the players off the championship team. Next year he’ll be rewarded for his foresight…and redshirting Little and Releford this year.

KU is locked an loaded for years to coem. There are freshman in high school saying they will sign with KU. If you were a talented kid, where would you play? Much to the sadness of the KU haters around here, Bill Self is the best tool which Bill Self has to recruit with.

Much to the sadness of the KU haters around here, Bill Self is the best tool which Bill Self has to recruit with. Coach has already said he is staying, he will be there for LONGTERM the kids, who else can say that? …..and the KU program is historic, WE HAVE THE PHOG. Not to mention the training rooms, you are aware that Coach negotiated pro style facilites …. WE ARE THE GRETEST!!! OF ALL TIME !!!

You can dream and wish and hope for KU to do poorly at Basketabll, but sorry … it aint gonna happen. I foresee 10 more NCAA National Championships coming.

    How about this?? stop hating…
…get on the band wagon and have fun.

Hall, did you say 14 kids amigo? WOW! I have been reading you for over ten years and I don’t recal you ever throwing that out there – that is cool brother! Knuckle bumps to your folks man!

Congrats to Martin on the contract and the COTY – totally deserved…and I am a KU alum saying that…

Lastly, the Mayan calendar predicted the ‘End of Days’ would begin with the field being expanded to 96 teams. SOOOOOO, will it be June Jubilation instead of March Madness now that we have to sit through an extra lot of shitty games?

    Ridiculous…

GH: 15 kids all from the same mom & pop — w/ no dupes. 10 boys and 5 girls. It was a great way to grow up.
