Hearne: Will the Real Owner of Hayward’s Bar B Que Please Stand?

About yesterday’s story in the Star about the new Hayward’s Bar B Que near downtown O.P…

“It’s kind of strange,” says landlord Bob Lewellen of the story. “According to the realtor who handled the lease for me (two owners) bought Hayward out. I mean, I think it’s a good move on their part to use the Hayward’s name; it gives them a little credability.”

What surprised Lewellen most was Spears and his wife were the ones featured in the photo, when their role in the ownership had not so much as been mentioned to him.

Once the crown jewel of College Boulevard, Hayward’s at College and Antioch has grown a bit long in the tooth and doesn’t do the kick ass biz it did in it’s glory days of the 1980s. When Hayward’s first opened it merged fine dining,

    Good reporting here! What’s the point of supporting some fast food moguls, who are hiding behind the Haywards? I agree with fbasehor. This is as bad as when Lamar’s “made their transition”. Oh, Jeesus–now Hearne will resurrect his cockroach expose! I’ve opened a can of worms now! Not worms? roaches? What’s next–will Jojo be smoking roaches in the parking lot at Haywards, in his black and blue hat? Let’s turn Jojo in to the narcs. Offer the cop a slab for arresting Jojo.
