Star Search: Slow News Day at 18th & Grand

Let’s keep it real and keep it short….

Got a power lunch to get to with Lauren wants to know and Brian McTavish.

At first blush, today’s KC Star feels kinda like a Monday paper. You know, a little light. Maybe not but that’s what struck me carrying it in, barefoot across my still snowy driveway.

Let’s see, across the top of the front page are the 2010 Winter Olympics, a little grrrl and puppy pic – FYI editors know the readership are suckers for kids and pets and they will play that card – and of course, a Jayhawks win schmooze piece.

Anything here somebody needed to wait a day to learn about or can’t live without? I think not.

I’ll skip the national stuff; everybody knows that’s old news unless you live in a shoe and don’t own a computer or cell phone.

Hmmm, a front page sex assault story. The Waldo rapist. Like KCTV and Channel 9 didn’t beat that one to death last night? A Hatiti space filler – Zzzzzzzzzzz. And another job bill “advances” – to paraphrase former Star business columnist

I didn’t see the written story about Hayward’s, but I did watch the video on the Star’s Web site.

It talked about Hayward’s “new location,” but NEVER ONCE MENTIONED WHERE IT WAS.

you’re making an ass of yourself. Forget it.
People think you’ve gone too far
with your personal vendeta against the star.
When will you let it go? why do this and
what does it gain for you? More enemies than
you already have? People thinking you are using
this site (which is growing everyday) to make the
point that you are still bitter about getting
    let go.
We’ve all been hurt by someones action in life..
don’t make this your cause…do something good.
Revenge is a bitter emotion to carry for the
    rest of your life.
Theyve still got 500,000 readers that buy and
    read the paper.
And the truth is that if you get more really
good content (and not your personal whipping post)this site will skyrocket.
You’ve got good readership and some really
interesting stories…why cram it up with
this? You’re on a roll…don’t fall intoa hole.

Against my better judgement, I’m going to explain something to you Jojo. One last time. I’m not in the slightest bitter. We barbecued the Star in the Pitch like crazy when I was at the helm. It’s part of alternative journalism. How about Tony, you think he’s got a personal vendetta, too?
Remember they tried to hire me back to freelance the column at the Star a year ago January.
I’m not mad at the Star; I’m appreciative. Appreciative that they are there for my personal use and consumption. And appreciative that they provide me a wealth of stories and columns to comment on. You know, I could hide out in a cave and not make a peep…but that’s not me. Try and relax and if you really must believe that I am completely angst ridden then thanks. I guess your concern is well-intentioned.But It ain’t so. I’m OK. Really.
