Slow News Day: The Joe-College Media Gang Bang

Ah, the fine art of journalism…

Or should I say, the lost art?

Lawsuit encumbered Lawrence T-shirt shop Joe-College.com and owner Larry Sinks came under media fire on 610 Sports Nick Wright’s show for a “Frank Martin Mows My Lawn” T-shirt.

The idea being that since Martin is Cuban, the concept of him cutting grass was a racial stereotype.

Hold it right there…

Since when did Cubans become the post dudes for lawn mowing?

A check of Cuban stereotypes on Yahoo Answers cites the stereotype of Cuban men as being loud, assertive and controlling. No weed whacking references.

An entry on stromfront.org addressing the stereotypes of Cubans entering this country notes that “the Cubans established themselves businesses, enterpreneuring, firms, and other decent salary professions. Alot were already well educated and the children – third generation – earned education in the U.S. and followed in the footsteps.”
