Hearne on the Street: Corner Restaurant Bites Dust!

Think of it as the end of an era…

Just like that the fabled Corner Restaurant in Westport has quietly closed. In years gone by an infamous morning after respite for the One Night Stand Crowd, the unassuming eatery had fallen on less significant times in recent years.

“I haven’t been there for 10 years,” says Pitch food critic Charles Ferruzza. “It’s for sale.”

That said, Ferruzza harbors fond memories of The Corner. Up to a point.

“I feel bad,” Ferruzza says. “Let’s just say whatever charm it had , it had lost.”

To bad…that was a Landmark. I still think it’s a viable location. Place just needs a lot of love. Diner is a great concept for local operators, I hope somebody can turn it around.

My best local dive is Dagwood’s. Haven’t been to Chubby’s in ages.

While it is too bad that a local business closed, it’s not at all surprising, given the bad service and cold, horrible food formerly served there. See, this is what happens when you lose sight of what matters in any restaurant.

If you read the Pitch article you see they were closed by the health dept for a time partly due to roaches. So YUCK.

This no more signals the death of Westport than the closing of Tanners signaled the death of downtown. It just means that bad service and bad food eventually catch up with you. And that’s the way it should work.

Just as The Corner closes, a new, better breakfast option has opened down by Californo’s (Simply Breakfast). If their service and food-quality regress to the point of The Corner, I hope they suffer the same fate.

Nichols was replaced by a higher-quality option as well.

I disagree with the Nichols higher quality option. Ate their once and wasn’t impressed
