NU AD Tom Osborne has a May public vote hinging on Lincoln building a new home arena for his Huskers. He’s quoted as saying they will renovate Devaney if the vote fails. You better believe that a move will be made on Doc Sadler and a big-name hire will occur before that vote happens.

GH: Does any other BCS school in the country have a basketball arena named after a former football coach? Only in Nebraska.

    Greg,

This i just one of the many stories that discuss Scott Drew’s negative recruiting tactics. You may think it’s alright, but it appears that there are a lot of coaches who disagree. From what I’ve heard, he han’t really cleaned up his act all that much Dude just strikes me as a huckster on some level.

GH: I never had to recruit against the guy so I may not have experienced the True Drew. But the media seems to be down on him as well — and that is where my experience with the guy was very positive.

“Has the Super Bowl become more about the TV commercials than the game for our kids? ”

Has been for years, Greg. I have friends in my 30s who are die-hard sports fans and could give a crap about the game.

Isn’t the “Gallagher” in Gallagher-Iba Arena a wrestling coach? I realize Iba was a basketball deity, but that’s about as good as naming it after a football coach.

    ___

GH: The difference is that wrestling takes place inside the same arena that bears Gallagher’s name.

I can still remember watching the superbowl when I was 5. it’s my first sports memory. the nfl has been doing very bad things with
-crowding out real fans for luxury suites
-putting games on nfl network where most people can’t watch them
    -putting in too many commercials
-locally, an nfl team who hasn’t won a playoff game since ’94, meaning no one under their 20s can remember it.

as columnist Gregg Easterbrook says, there’s no rule that says nfl has a perpetual lock on the No.1 sports position. if they lock out the players in the next few years and miss a season, it’s going to be very, very bad.

Greg, I agree about K-State. They are LEGIT.

Maybe Cat fans are trying to keep their expectations low based on what’s happened in the past.

Like it or not, K-Staters, your team is playing in a way that come Tournament time, anything less than a Sweet Sixteen is gonna be disappointing.

It’s just past 2:00PM Greg and Kietzman is broadcasting live from Arrowhead with a special announcement from Pioli and some other guy. Are they announcing that the Chiefs are moving from KCFX to WHB?

Heard there was a fight yesterday at 610 and someone had to be escorted out of the building. Anybody else hear this?

Greg that photo of BF is messed up. Dude may never walk correct again.

Favorite Super Bowl quote of all time from Cowboys Duane Thomas when asked what he thought about playing in the Super Bowl the ultimate game.
“If it’s the ultimate game, how come they’re playing it again next year?”
I’m 50…remember 1966 Super Bowl like it was yesterday…It came on like at 1pm..we got a box of glazed donuts and watched the Packers win it. Lamar Hunt was a stud. Very big for KC at the time.

College hoops: write this name down… Evan Turner of The Ohio State this guy is going to make a lot of money…OSU big time sleeper…

My love (or curse) of the Chiefs and the NFL began when I was 8 watching SBIV with my father. Too bad more kids aren’t enjoying the SB because of the game and not all the peripheral shit, because recent SB’s have been great games.

Favorite Super Bowl quote, from Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson of the Cowboys about Terry Bradshaw – “he couldn’t spell cat if you spotted him the c and the t”

    ____

GH: The only time I ever saw my dad run (well, break into a jog) was the afternoon of SB III with Joe Willie. We were walking home from some church deal — the blessing of the throats or benediction or something other houdini excercise — and my dad starts trotting so that he doesn’t miss the kickoff. This is a man who dented a couch with such professionalism, the cushion looked like he was sitting on it even when he wasn’t. Football was our second religion when I was a kid. And all 10 of my brothers were/are true believers.

Greg, now that the Chiefs will be broadcast on WHB, you have to cover the hour long tongue bath Kietzman and Mad Jack just gave the Chiefs. Try hard to not imagine Jack Harry giving you a tongue bath.

    ___

GH: We might have to discuss this in Thursday OTC.

There are way too many commercials on a televised NFL game. Any more it feels like an NFL telecast is 1.5 hours of football and 1.5 hours of commercials. Younger veiwers tune this out and lack enthusiasm for the whole event, even more so in the ultimate over commercialized game, the Super Bowl.

Scott Drew was disliked among coaches long before he walked out on KU’s pre-game video. All that stunt did was wake KC up to his M.O.

The Super Bowl has become a soulless game surrounded by hype, glitz, sideshows and media overkill. The last thing the Super Bowl is about anymore is football, and that’s a shame.

Xavier Henry is possibly the most over-hyped big time recruit to ever wear a KU uniform. He’s no more ready for the NBA than Tyrell Reed…but he is definitely not headed down the same path as JaRon Rush.

Truth: I stopped listening to Nick Wright over a month ago. I got in the car headed to work one morning and it hit me how transparent he is. Just don’t have any use for him anymore. He’s more like Kevin Keitzman than he will ever realize.

“GH: Does any other BCS school in the country have a basketball arena named after a former football coach? Only in Nebraska.”

Is this a serious question? Bob Devaney served as athletic director at Nebraska for 25 years from 1967-1993. That’s 14 years longer than just as the football coach. The Devaney Sports Center includes a basketball arena, AND an aquatics center, AND a track and field facility.

Why wouldn’t they name the sports center after their long time AD?

I’m watching it just to see (half of)The Who, a band that – like the game itself – used to have some integrity.
