Why 810 sucks. I went ot bed early because I knew I would be getting up early to destroy snow and beat traffic. Listened to 810 for 23 minutes. Heard about the problems getting in, st john late, what we are going to talk about today, blah blah blah, Cornell is tough, they were in NCAA tournamnet last year, Missouri beat them, blah blah blah. Finally arrived to work and went inside still never knowing. WHO WON THE MFING GAME LAST NIGHT????????!!!!!!!!! Thanks Greg. May still not know a score. But at least I know KU won. 810 the HOME OF LOSERS!!

Greg – glad to find someone who will come right out and say it…college refs may as well be on the home team’s payroll. But people always gripe about KU getting friendly calls at Allen, and ignore when it happens everywhere else. The home team doesn’t even have to be good. I remember KU being on the receiving end of some awful calls in Lincoln last year. Bottom line, this is a big issue in college basketball that is largely ignored.

-GH is dead on, Cornell was the better team last night for 38 minutes, but the game is 40. Figured KU would have a let down, but not like that. Cornell’s a good team, but KU looked unprepared for their offense.
-People need to stop staying Morningstar is KU’s best perimeter defender, if that’s the truth, KU won’t make it past the Sweet 16. I can remember two occasions in the last 10 minutes last night he got torched. He couldn’t cover a John Wall in a phone booth.
-On one hand, KU played its worst game and still won which is good, but on the other hand, the whole team stood around and watched Collins when the game was on the line. They’ll need Aldrich, Xavier and others to step up in crunch time if they are going to win it all.
-All that being said, KU is still number one and I think most KU fans would be disappointed with any more than 2 or 3 losses and NC game birth this year…and they should be with the talent they have.

Last night Cornell could have split a gnat’s ass from 2,000 yards. They were on fire. Fire I say. And Kansas was cold as ice. It was a perfect storm for an upset until Collins took over. Great teams find a way to win even when they play bad and even if it means riding on the shoulders of your best player.
If Cornell makes the tourney and gets a good draw, those fellas might just waltz into the Sweet 16 if they are draining shots like they were last night.

I’m curious how many times Steve Wellmer has officiated a KU game this season? How many of their home games? He might very well be on the KU payroll. No team gets homer calls like the Jayhawks, who would not have won last night without the home cooking from Wellmer and Co. down the stretch.

I think it will be a moot point, but I could see Cornell possibly getting an at-large bid even if they don’t win the Ivy. Like I said, it’s probably moot because they should win the conference. The question is, can they get up to a 12 seed where they might end up doing some damage?

-Quick points…Dexter Morgan is wrong, Cornell shot below their season average for FG%, FT% and 3pt% last night…I know ifs and buts aren’t worth anything, but if Cornell shoots their season % from the line, KU loses that game.
-Don’t blame the refs…I hate that, so 6th grade??…every team gets calls at home. Watch, MU will get calls Saturday vs. K-State and it will be the opposite in Manhattan later this year…

There was also a horrible continuation call against KU pretty late in the game as well.
I don’t think the biggest problem is that refs are somehow intimidated by the crowd – I just think a majority of them are not good at their jobs. Period.

Quick point…dp left out some key info.
Kansas shot waaaay below their season average for FG% against Cornell. KU is shooting 51% from the field for the season…last night they shot 36%. I don’t care what Cornell’s stats are, if Kansas wasn’t cold as ice last night that game wouldn’t have been anywhere near what it was. How many lay-ups and put backs did KU miss? 10? 12?
The reason Cornell’s shooting % was off last night was because they were being D’d up. And they still managed to hit shots with a hand in their grill. Even on an off night, those kids can drain it.
