Roger Twibell Starting Golf Club Biz; Leaving 610 Sports

And now, as they sometimes say, the rest of the story…

Veteran television and radio broadcaster Roger Twibell will depart 610 Sports at year’s end to go into the custom golf club business with his new company Clear Golf (cleargolf.net).

“We’re launching right after the first of the year,” Twibell says. “I’ve been working on this for three years and we just got the Web site up. We’re not taking orders yet but we will be shortly after the first of the year.”

I’m sorry, golfers. But it’s a silly game.

    “200 clubs to market?!”

The ball just sits there ’til you tap it.

Ever hear of LaBron James getting the “yips?!”

And there’s no one playing defense?

That’s not a “sport” and its practitioners are not athletes.

Even Matt Cassel could complete passes if there were no defense.

It’s not a sport unless someone is playing defense, otherwise Minnesota Fats would’ve been the Athlete of the 20th Century.

wish him well in the future but can’t say I’m sorry to hear him leave the airwaves. Didn’t add much. And if Maas is his replacement then that is a HUGE upgrade.

Hearne, you were scooped by Bottom Line. Deal with it like a man and don’t whine.
You seem petty when you try to imply the Brett rant had something to do with Twibell’s departure. They never reported that at all.

Minnesota Fats never had tail chasing him at each stop. Tiger does. Golf is a sport.

Nice try, John Boy. You call an unnamed source item speculating on Twibell’s departure with no comment or confirmation from him or the station a scoop? An item that didn’t even clue in that Twibell is starting a new company/ career in January? Gotta do the legwork, mon

Twibell really got in on this golf craze thing early. He might be onto something. I am glad I am not his banker.

Roger joined 610 when they needed someone to calm down the storm of all their young guys…and the leaving of Whitlock,Mass and Tim…thier stars….he did that. He’s a good guy and did a nice, soothing job for 610, and he will be back to fill in and more in the future, I think….

I did alot of radio with Bill and Whitlock at 610 and only once with Roger…so I look forward to seeing Billy Boy back in the saddle…he is great with football…and fun with other sports…he will add some pepper to that morning drive show….talk at you Bill and good luck….Roger all the best….

I guess we are going to disagree on this one to Craig. If calming means boring then yes Roger was. Also he didn’t replace Bill and Whitlock but D.A. He had a huge loyal following and is still missed.

I’ve heard no official reports Billy Bob is taking over. But i hope u r right.

How come no one gives credit to 810’s morning show ever. They have handled all thrown at them and have done an awesome job. Just sayin….

I hope Maas doesn’t get the job. The guy is a ice head. The last time he was on 610 he looked like a guy who was drunk and sniffed too much coke…….

Didn’t read it here, but looks like Bob Fescoe will be taking Twibell’s slot.

    to Monkeyhawk:
Since when does a sport require someone to play defense? This is obviously your own lame definition to support your hatred for a sport you don’t know how to play. What an idiot.

Glad to see Twibell go. If only they could bring DA back. Never understood that move to begin with. Thought it was a big mistake then and it’s obvious now that I was right.

I haven’t listened to 610’s morning show for more than 5 minutes since Roger took over. I was a loyal listener to D.A. but now it’s The Border Patrol for me. Roger was just waaaay to boring. Maybe they’ll bring back John Renshaw…. Not!

Obviously, Roger was speaking to a more mature, knowledgable audience. You want shock jock, hungover ranting you may get your wish. I thought Twibell brought great national credibility to a (prior to that) juvenile sports broadcast. Unfortunately now, the over 40 set will have to put up with tales of last nights strip club all over again.

I don’t recall DA ever talking about strip clubs. What i do recall is an incredible amount of listener loyalty. A listener hall of fame. Crazy Ray. Some dude from Wichita calling daily. And tons of LAUGHTER!! DA created something Roger didn’t get close to. PASSION. He’s been gone for a few years now and people are still talking about him!!! Do you really think that two years from now anyone will be bemoaning the loss of Roger?

As far as Roger being knowledgeable. During my on air debate with him regarding the controversy over Tony not breaking the record at home and Herm wanting to play it safe by not passing. Roger lost his cool and said “NOTHING NOTHING BAD happens when you hand the ball off to Larry Johnson.” I responded with one word. “Fumble”. Roger became all flustered and decided it was time to get off the air. He lacked a great deal of knowledge though he could put you to asleep with his golf talk. Hoorah!!!

Have to agree with Gene. I enjoyed Twibell’s wide ranging sports knowledge and perspective that comes from years on the job particularly at the national level. I know I speak for many others who will miss him on the morning show. Hope to see or hear him on the air again soon!

I have been a loyal fan of Twibell’s for many years. His devotion to sports, passion for the local teams and years of knowledge will be missed. I think 610 has missed the mark on this one….some of us still want to hear a thoughtful analysis of last nights events, not a rant blaming everyone from the coach to the water boy for a loss or taking personal ownership that their insight alone lead management to hire or fire. Good Luck Roger, much success!!

Obviously different strokes for different folks. But we’ll see in two years if you guys are posting about how much you miss Roger the way fans still do of DA.

Finally the boring crony of Carl Peterson is off the air. It is a shame they got rid of a true talent in DA to go with a Carl Peterson crony who is possibly the most boring person to host a morning show in the history of KC radio.

Not only was Roger boring, but he was also, plain and simply, not very smart or insightful. Every time he tried to say something intelligent, I swear I heard crickets chirping.

Only people who don’t play golf think it’s not a sport.
