After 11 years, KK finally lost me. And I was a loyal listener. His monologues are much less piercing and the station has lost the edge. I am a sports freak and I am listening to Lazlo. They bragged about the wide breadth of their signal, and then complain on the air that they do not sell ads within their reach? It is getting boring. 810 is not a regional power. I predict a slide in the ratings. KK has become the Star Editorial board. He is heavily biased and mistrusted.

Tiger did have his girls pass the One To Lick Test! Billy Bob did sound good. He and Mark Collins were merciless in beating up on Matt Cassel who found the need to respond yesterday to people who don’t know what it is he is supposed to be doing with his reads and progressions. He doesn’t know what he’s supposed to be doing. Suh SHOULD win the Heisman. Most analysts think he will finish at least second or third in the vote count. If the Chiefs have a chance to grab this guy and they don’t they are friggin’ IDIOTS. He is a game changer and a stadium filler. His presence WILL make the whole team better. Hell yeah all the guys on the PGA tour knew Tiger was a pussy hound. Now that Gatorade has dropped him maybe he can endorse the new poon TANG. It’ll be interesting to see if Tim Finchem can grow a set of balls and suspend him from play for a year. Even without Tiger on the tour these guys will still earn more money then they would as a golf pro, bartender or insurance salesman. And with all the Mexicans in the country isn’t it only a matter of time before we have the Senor Tour?

Suh is good, but beating up on undersized college lineman has a way of making a defensive lineman look better than he is. Name a HOF nose tackle in the NFL…kickers get more notoriety.

Suh is a beast. He’s King Kong and the Viet Cong all in a D-Lineman. I really wanna like this kid off the field too. We know he likes to get his drink on. He’s been great on all the press stuff, damn near Tebow-like. I wonder what happens to him when you put Top 5 draft pick money in his pocket? I see a little Tiger Woods and Derrick Thomas waiting to bust out of this kid as soon as him Amex Onyx card arrives in the mail.

Nail on the head Ranibow Man. KK is out of control, living in his own world. He’s got a bunch of yes men telling him how great he is. Used to love him but had to throw the towel in 5 years ago. Petro is getting too big for his britches too. 610 is mildly amusing from time to time. Billy Bob is doing some good work there. I enjoy listening to him. He has knowledge, contacts, credibility and doesn’t come off sounding arrogant or condescending to callers.

It’ll be interesting to see how many guys on the PGA Tour talk about who know what and when they knew it. I agree that Finchem needs to suspend Tiger for a year. Golf, after all is a “gentlemens” game…a game of “honor”. Tiger is gonna be to the PGA what Henry Hill was to the Mafia. The Trojan/Anal Lube Open can’t be too far off.

Rainbow man…I can’t believe 810 is still running ads touting “Sports talk powered by fans”. I jump between the 2 stations on the drive home, but I notice that I very rarely hear “fans” on 810.

Suh is good, no doubt. But a franchise-changing player? Let’s slow down a little bit. He might have a thing a two to learn at the next level. The best offensive linemen he went up against this season will be pretty average in the NFL. Not dissing … I hope he wins the Heisman … just sayin’.

Anyone notice how the Chiefs current 3 opponents (Den, Buff, Clev) all have 10 days to prepare for them since they played Thursday games? Unlucky for KC.

PT is right about HOF nose tackles being hard to name, but that could have something to do with the anti-defense bias that pretty obviously exists in HOF voting. But there are probably some deserving candidates all the same. Have a look at this for a discussion on the subject: http://tinyurl.com/y92b623

And, Kent, didn’t Steve Emtman finish third or fourth in Heisman balloting? He never lived up to that promise, but my recollection is that it was because of injuries and not because of a Dorsey-like lack of work ethic and substandard motor.

All the KK hate proves a point I made the other day…People love to hate KK. That’s why he’s number one.

Cliffy, the Texas O-Line might as well be an NFL line. I agree that this kid, if he keeps his head straight, is a game changer. Hopefully, in the NFL the refs will call holding more often. If you watch any tape of Suh, he gets held on almost every play, it just never got called. I’m surprised none of the sports networks haven’t done a comp tape of this kid tracked to Johnny Cash’s A Boy Named Sue. If ever there was a match made in heaven.

name a defensive lineman who was a rookie
who had a good year in the nfl. It might be
that the chiefs draft defensive linemen that
turn out to be duds but i cant think of too
    many that turn out good.
Hoepfully kc won’t draft suh. Theire record
of drafing defensive lineman from college and
having them perform is piss poor.

    30 million…make a child support agreement
then say “light up the jet…we’re headed to
    party in vegas tonite!”
And what about the $10 an hour nanny he married?
Is she any different than the hookers he
screwed. If tiger worked in wal mart she never
would have eve n looked at him.
    She married him for money/notoriety…

Why are the Buffalo and Cleveland games both “must win” ?? Who cares? People are dying for this season to be over, does Kent Babb really think beating Buffalo and Cleveland is going to erase the first 14 weeks of ineptitude?

We still have Todd Haley and Matt Cassel coming back next year. As long as you have those two in place, this team isn’t going anywhere, no matter who they draft or sign.

  16. Anonymous says:

    Gavin
Dexter, I think these games are “must-win” for Haley only. You’re right that Pioli will be back again next year, but I still have hope he knows what he is doing. But Haley has just barely delivered on his alleged boast that he can take 22 guys off the street and win two games and he did it by beating a crappy Washington team, a crappy Oakland team and a Pittsburgh team that is in absiolute freefall. If he can’t beat the reamining shitty teams on the schedule, there is a possibility that he might actually get fired. Which means I am reduced to hoping my favorite team loses all its remaining games. We have to destroy the village in order to save it.

Bill Maas was AWESOME to hear again.

Chris and Cowby are refreshing to me. I think it’s their goal to be an “entertaining sports-themed show” rather than a “sports talk show”. When stories like Tiger’s are hot, I want to tune in to C&C. Even the morning guys on 610 this week were having fun with the Tiger story.

Todd Haley is ANNOYING THE HELL out of me about now. He started off his press conference saying he was disappointed they couldn’t get a winning 3-1 record in the 3rd quarter of the season’s games. WHAT?! Shut up didshit! THEN he defends Matt Cassel.

I just DO NOT see it with Cassel. He just looks terrible to me. I like his guttiness. But he sucks. Some point out the Pittsburgh win when he drove the Chiefs down the field in the final minutes. But those people must forget how WRETCHED he was the first 3 quarters.

AND….I’m glad Pinkel is staying at MU. He’s proven that he can’t get get to the next level. Old balls in Manhattan ain’t gonna do anything that special. That, combined with KU flirting with names like Jim Harbaugh, Turner Gill, Skip Holtz and Tommy Tuberville makes me think KU’s gonna be competeing with or besting their 2 close rivals for years to come.

    Greg Hall math:

K-State is going to be an absolute load for teams to play

    =

K-State will race through the Big 12

Um, OK Greg. Your KK hate just won’t let you hear anything he says without you twisting it into something else. All he said was that K-State will be tough for people to play, and anyone with a brain can see that

Things seem to be swirling pretty serioulsy in the KU coaching search right now. Yet our ONLY local radio right is effin’ 810’s Soren….who spent his first THIRTY minutes advertising for a damn golf shop he’s at on 119th. Then he spends the rest of the 1st hour talking Chiefs. Then his 2nd hour he talked baseball winter meetings (borrriiinng!).

So I switched to Rome and heard Jason Whitlock give his asinine take on Tiger Woods (he said maybe Elin had an agreement that Tiger could sleep around, ’cause Whitlock knows “many” who do that……Jason you are an amora dipshit. Your social views SUCK).

Now Soren is doing his around the nation crap.

MEANWHILE, a new name, Tommy Tuberville has been circulated by the Star, with Tuberville saying he’d like to coach Kansas.

And THIS (!!!!) from some website called footballcoachscoop.com:

    Kansas:
FootballCoachScoop has BREAKING NEWS and the FIRST TO REPORT that Stanford Head Coach Jim Harbaugh is negotiating a contract with Athletic Director Lew Perkins to be the new Head Coach of the Kansas Jayhawks. Our sources tell us that Harabugh will be named the new Head Coach at KU when the contract details are worked out and finalized this weekend. According to our source he will be paid between $2.5 Million and 2.75 Million.

KC JOYNERs comments-It’s pretty clear that Indy’s Stephenson impacts the Colts more then Dwight. And I would add Troy from Pittsburgh to his list of defensive players that impact games and teams.

It’s great whenever you get a chance to hear Billy Bob and his insights.

Adam T-Numbers don’t lie. Chiefs won 2 games last year. this year they have one 3 games with four more to go. That’s called progress. If the Star went from 200,000 subscribers to 300,00 that would be called progress. Sorry you don’t get this.

That being said. Boy that Steelers win is looking less and less impressive by the second.

K.K. is an idiot their is no quarter back controversy.

Smartman why are you trying to become a second rate Uncle Dick? Leave the humor to him. He does it well. You…….not so much.

Yes, of course everyone knew about Tiger’s ways. Andre doing meth was shocking. Andre finding Steffi hot SHOCKING!!! This wasn’t to his fellow players. They are coming out of the woodwork to bash him now.

I would love to hear why you and KK hate each other so much. Well, to be honest, I’m not aware of the background story at all — but obviously there is something there as you go after him constantly — but I’ve never heard him address you.

    Care to share?

I’ve been tuning in to sports talk all day to find out any truth to rumors about Tuberville and Harbaugh.

Not a word from local radio, until just now. Soren hears from people that the KU job is Harbaugh’s if he wants it. Apparently, he’s mulling it over. He may not want to go to KU if he thinks he could be offered an NFL job in a year or two.

Honeybaked if Greg doesn’t answer I’ll give you a thumb nail sketch this weekend. But I wouldn’t say Greg hates K.K. just has worked close enough with him to see his true nature. Greg’s assessment is shared by most of those that have worked with him including Whitlock.

    HoneyB,
I’m out of town this weekend (running the Tucson marathon) so my web access is limited.

KK and I have an interesting history but I far from hate the guy. My column and the way I treat him and others hasn’t changed much since the earliest days of writing Off The Couch. KK is simply a member of the media who says a lot of things that are beach-front real estate for my OTC. I didn’t treat Don Fortune or Pete Enich any differently. And while some might have believed I hated them as well, I was happy they were there to write about.

    Honeybake,

I think it is more about KK hating GH, than the other way around. GH would, most likely, like to see KK stay around for a long time – good for business. KK would pay money to see GH leave tomorrow. Simple as that…

Rick, I’m not trying to become a second rate Uncle Dick. I’m like his straight man. I tee ’em up and he drives ’em. See his follow up to my Senor Open comment. Uncle Dick is a straight up funny motherfucker. I’m more sardonic, but I am a team player. I hike it and let Uncle Dick run the option. Smartman-I missed the Marcus Allen comment some how.

Honey baked-Remember this is how “I” recall things and its very brief.

Greg used to work for the KC Star doing the same thing you see here. Because he saw where the paper business was headed he left to do a radio program which I believe at the time was 1510 which later became 810. Keitzman was part owner and sportscaster. GM was a guy by the name of Chad Boeger but K.K. was basically the person in charge. Whitlock also took a job there. Steven St John was there but Hall was the one who put him in a co hosting position.

Hall tried to have humor in his show. He did a parody of a local sport broadcaster with part of the joke being his well known history of drinking. It was in the same vein as last weekend’s Tiger skit on SNL about Tiger getting beat up by his wife and wanting help. Funny stuff.

The sportscaster got very offended and threaten to sue the station. Greg was admonished and given a week’s suspension. The station apologized and when Greg returned he read the station’s apology on air. Greg himself didn’t apologize because he felt it was just humor but understood the station’s position and readily accepted his punishment.

When Greg returned he, Whitlock, and others were asked to sign a contract stating that they would not be interviewed (I’m really condensing here)in other media outlets or talk about other media people with out prior station approval.

A few days later, on a Friday I believe, Greg was quoted in a KC Star column about returning to the station and how he felt the station had ever right to suspend him. Greg went to work that afternoon and was fired by the station manager Chad Boeger at the door. Greg requested to speak to Kevin Keitzman personally so he could tell him face to face why he was fired. During a station break Kevin came out and told him it was due to the quote in the mornings paper and was basically a jerk. Greg also didn’t receive all of his salary he was due.

Greg went on to take his act to the net on a site called Off The Couch, The Pitch newspaper, and a Platte City newspaper. On his web site he eventually told in a seven part series what led to his firing from the radio station.

Everything I’ve read and what I know indicates to me that Greg actually admires Kevin Ketizman from a business stand point. K.K. saw a need in the K.C. market, took a huge chance in leaving his own on air position on channel 4. He with help from a money man Jerry Green made a successful radio station. Greg has always given K.K. credit for this and knowing what his audience wanted.

That being said Greg’s personal interaction with K.K. have been less then desirable. Quite frankly, he just isn’t a nice person. But i think Greg respects and admires some of the things he does. And he abhors other things.

Greg has also felt that just because you are in the media that doesn’t make you immune to criticism.

“My” guess is that Greg thinks K.K. has lost some edge since getting to the mountain top and he has become complacent and everything he didn’t want to be. Success will do that to you. Make you a fat cat.

I personally enjoy Greg’s both outsider and insider view. Though we don’t always agree.

That’s about it in a nutshell.

    Obviously corrections are welcomed.

Question: Why was Suh so average last year? One year he is ok, the next he is the best D lineman ever?? was he lazy or is there something else?

    ___

    Tim,
Suh was far from average in 2008. He was second-team All Big 12 and should have been on the first team. He showed signs of his talent as a sophomore but really blossomed under the Pelini brothers as a junior. He made everybody’s pre-season All-American list before this season based on his play in 2008.
